The object of this study is to investigate the penetration characteristics according to the change of stacking sequences and curvature radius in the composite laminated shell. They are staked to [02/902]S and [0/902/0]s, their interlaminar number are two and four. We are manufactured to composite laminated shells with various curvature radius. Curvature radius of composite shell is 100, 150, 200mm and ${\infty}$(it's meaning flat-plate). In general, kinetic energy after impact-kinetic energy before impact increased linearly in all specimens. Absorbed energy increased linearly as the curvature increased, and absorbed energy of [02/902]S specimen, which is small interlaminar number, was higher than [0/902/0]s specimen.
This paper studies nonlinear stability behavior of a nanocrystalline silicon curved nanoshell considering strain gradient size-dependency. Nanocrystallines are composite materials with an interface phase and randomly distributed nano-size grains and pores. Imperfectness of the curved nanoshell has been defined based on an initial deflection. The formulation of nanocrystalline nanoshell has been established by thin shell theory and an analytical approach has been used in order to solve the buckling problem. For accurately describing the size effects related to nano-grains or nano-pores, their surface energies have been included. Nonlinear stability curves of the nanoshell are affected by the size of nano-grain, curvature radius and nano-pore volume fraction. It is found that increasing the nano-pore volume fraction results in lower buckling loads.
This study dealt with autonomic microcapsules with the healing agent for damage repair of the composite structures. Autonomic microcapsules were made of a urea-formaldehyde resin for shell of microcapsule and a DCPD for the healing agent. Thermal analysis was conducted by using a DSC and a TGA for the healing agent, microcapsules without the healing agent, and microcapsules with the healing agent. According to the results, autonomic microcapsules were verified to be so thermally stable that the healing agent was kept inside the microcapsule until the shell of microcapsules were burned out.
Motivated by needs such as those in the aerospace industry, this paper demonstrates ability to significantly increase buckling loads of perforated composite laminated plates by synergizing FEM and a genetic optimization algorithm (GA). Plate geometry is discretized into specially-developed 3D degenerated eight-node shell isoparametric layered composite elements. General shell theory, involving incremental nonlinear finite element equilibrium equation, is employed. Fiber orientation within individual plies of each element is controlled independently by the genetic algorithm. Eigen buckling analysis is performed using the subspace iteration method. Available results demonstrate the approach is superior to more conventional methodologies such as modifying ply thickness or the stacking sequence of individual rectilinear plies having common fiber orientation through the plate.

In the context of classic conical shell formulation, nonlinear forced vibration analysis of truncated conical shells and annular plates made of multi-scale epoxy/CNT/fiberglass composites has been presented. The composite material is reinforced by carbon nanotube (CNT) and also fiberglass for which the material properties are defined according to a 3D Mori-Tanaka micromechanical scheme. By utilizing the Jacobi elliptic functions, the frequency-deflection curves of truncated conical shells and annular plates related to their forced vibrations have been derived. The main focus is to study the influences of CNT amount, fiberglass volume, open angle, fiber angle, truncated distance and force magnitude on forced vibrational behaviors of multi-scale truncated conical shells and annular plates.
Film properties of monodispersed model composite latexes with particle size of 190 nm, which consist of n-butyl acrylate as a soft phase monomer and methyl methacrylate as a hard phase monomer with different morphology was examined. Five different types of model latexes were used in this study such as random copolymer particle, soft-core/hard-shell particle, hard-core/soft-shell particle, gradient type particle, and mixed type particle. Tensile strength and tensile elongation at break of final films were evaluated. Those properties can be interpreted in terms of PBA/PMMA phase ratio and their morphology. The interfacial adhesion strength was also evaluated using $180^{\circ}$ peel strength measurement and cross hatch cutting test.
The effects of boundary conditions on vibration characteristics for the ring stiffered composite cylindrical shells are investigated by theoretical and experimental method. In the theoretical procedure, the Love's thin shell theory combined with the discrete stiffener theory to consider the ring stiffening effect are adopted to derive the frequency equation. In experiment, the impact exciting method is used to obtain the vibraton results. Five different boundary conditions: clamped-clamped, simply supported-simply supported, free-free, clamped-free, clamped-simply supported are considered in this study.
An optimum design has been performed to maximize specific energy (SED) of composite flywheel rotor for energy storage system. The flywheel rotor is assumed to be an axisymmetric thick laminated shell with a plane strain state for structural analysis. For the structural analysis the centrifugal force is considered and the stiffness matrix equation was derived for each ring considering the interferences between the rings. The global stiffness matrix was derived by integrating the local stiffness matrix satisfying the conditions of force and displacement compatibilities. Displacements are then calculated from the global stiffness matrix and the stresses in each ring are also calculated. 3-D intra-laminar quadratic Tsai-Wu criterion is then used for the strength analysis. An optimum procedure is also developed to find the optimal interferences and lay up angle to maximize SED using the sensitivity analysis.
The cylindrical shells are used as primary components of complex structures such as airplane fuselages and nuclear pressure vessels. Recently the free vibration analysis of these structures are investigated by many researchers. The engineering informations on experimental validation of the free vibration behavior on the simply supported cylindrical shells are very few. The experimental methods for realizing the physical boundary condition of simply supported edges are examined. Natural frequencies and mode shapes of the isotropic and plain weave composite simply supported shells are obtained by modal tests. A theoretical and finite element analysis are also performed in order to validate the experimental results. The experimental results indicate that the simply supported boundary conditions with bolts along the circumferential direction of shell in both ends are well achieved. Those are shown to agree with the analytical results and with the finite element analysis results. These methods can be used to realize other experimental simple support boundary conditions.
This paper presents effects of anisotropy and curvature on free vibration characteristics of cross-ply laminated composite cylindrical shallow shells. Shallow shells have been considered for different lamination thickness, radius of curvature and elasticity ratio. First, kinematic relations of strains and deformation have been showed. Then, using Hamilton's principle, governing differential equations have been obtained for a general curved shell. In the next step, stress-strain relation for laminated, cross-ply composite shells has been given. By using some simplifications and assuming Fourier series as a displacement field, differential equations are solved by matrix algebra for shallow shells. The results obtained by this solution have been given tables and graphs. The comparisons made with the literature and finite element program (ANSYS).
