In this study, on-site testing was carried out to investigate the vibration performance of a composite steel-bar truss slab with steel girder system. Ambient vibration was performed to capture the primary vibration parameters (natural frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes). The composite floor possesses low frequency (< 10 Hz) and damping (< 2%). Based on experimental, theoretical, and numerical analyses on natural frequencies and mode shapes, the boundary condition of SCSC (i.e., two opposite edges simply-supported and the other two edges clamped) is deemed more reasonable for the composite floor. Walking excitations by one person (single excitation), two persons (dual excitation), and three persons (triple excitation) were considered to evaluate the vibration serviceability of the composite floor. The measured acceleration results show a satisfactory vibration perceptibility. For design convenience and safety, a crest factor ${\beta}_{rp}$ describing the ratio of peak acceleration to root-mean-square acceleration induced from the walking excitations is proposed. The comparisons of the modal parameters determined by ambient vibration and walking tests reveal the interaction effect between the human excitation and the composite floor.

This paper presents an experimental study on the behavior of composite floor slab comprised by a new steel sheet and concrete slab. The strength of composite slabs depends mainly on the strength of the connection between the steel sheet and concrete, which is denoted by longitudinal shear strength. The composite slabs have three main failures modes, failure by bending, vertical shear failure and longitudinal shear failure. These modes are based on the load versus deflection curves that are obtained in bending tests. The longitudinal shear failure is brittle due to the mechanical connection was not capable of transferring the shear force until the failure by bending occurs. The vertical shear failure is observed in slabs with short span, large heights and high concentrated loads subjected near the supports. In order to analyze the behavior of the composite slab with a new steel sheet, six bending tests were undertaken aiming to provide information on their longitudinal shear strength, and to assess the failure mechanisms of the proposed connections. Two groups of slabs were tested, one with 3000 mm in length and other with 1500 mm in length. The tested composite slabs showed satisfactory composite behavior and longitudinal shear resistance, as good as well, the analysis confirmed that the developed sheet is suitable for use in composite structures without damage to the global behavior.
Steel frames are increasingly used in commercial buildings. and most steel frames are designed to achieve composite action with the concrete floor slab. The advantages of 'composite construction' are now well understood in terms of structural economy. good performance in service. and ease of construction. But. these conventional composite construction system are difficult to apply steel framed apartment due to their large depth. So. in this study we developed Semi Slim Floor system which could reduce the overall depth of composite beam. Semi Slim Floor system is a method of steel frame multi-story building construction in which the structural depth of each floor is minimised by incorporating the steel floor beams within the depth of the concrete floor slab. Twelve composite slab specimens with different deck-type. slab width. with or without stud bault and concrete topping thickness were tested to evaluate the flexural capacity.
In this study, an experiment was conducted on the Slim Floor system, using a hollow core PC slab, which could reduce the over-all depth of a composite beam. The Slim Floor system is a method used in steel frame multi-story building construction, in which the structural depth of each floor is minimized after incorporating the steel floor beams within the depth of the concrete floor slab. This experimental study focused on the flexural behavior of the partially connected Slim Floor system with asymmetric steel beams encased in hollow core PC slabs. Ten full-scale specimens were constructed and tested in this study, with different steel beam heights, hollow core PC slabs, slab widths, and PC slab bearings. Observations made in line with the experiments indicated that the degree of shear connection without additional shear connection was 0.48-0.98 times more than that of the full shear connection, due to inherent mechanical and chemical bond stress.

The application of metal deck floor system is increasing gradually and especially for office buildings. In the cases of large parking structures and storage structures, the construction period and the cost can be reduced. Also the steel deck system can prevent the crack of a floor and reduce the retrofit expenses. However, the floor should stand for the repeated truck load which is relatively heavier repeated loading. The mechanical behavior of a slab under repeated load is also different from the static loading state. An evaluation of a structural capacity was performed in this study through the dynamic capacity evaluation experiment for an application of a composite deck floor system as a parking structure slab. The period of repeated loadings were set up as 25years and 960,000 times monotone cyclic loads were applied at the center of the specimens. The tension crack propagation and patterns at the center of specimens were examined.
As deep decks are commonly used in construction fields and high-rise building. etc, the slim floor system is increasingly employed. But, the drawback of the slim floor system is that the use of 250 mm deep decks in a structure having a clear span of more than 6 m because of deflection and flexural buckling. This study suggests a non-support construction method where tendons are installed in the deep decks of the slim floor structure to introduce preload in order to control deflection in a structure having a clear span of 9 m. Loading tests were conducted to verify the composite effect and flexural capacity of the preloaded deep deck composite slab and evaluate the serviceability of the supportless construction method. The results showed the complete composite behavior of the preloaded deep deck composite slab with tendons. The specimens satisfied deflection limit and the working load was approximately 25% of the maximum load capacity. It is deemed that the cross-sectional area and yield strength of the deck plate should be taken into account in slab design and the yield strength and diameter of the tendon should be determined with the pre-tension taken into consideration.
In this study, on-site testing was carried out to investigate the vibration serviceability of a composite steel-bar truss slab with steel girder system. Impulse excitations (heel-drop and jumping) and steady-state motion (walking and running) were performed to capture the primary vibration parameters (natural frequency and damping ratio) and distribution of peak acceleration. The composite floor possesses low frequency (<8.3Hz) and damping ratio (<2.47%). Based on experimental, theoretical, and numerical analyses on fundamental natural frequency, the boundary condition of SCSS (i.e., three edges simply supported and one edge clamped) is deemed more comparable substitutive for the investigated composite floor. Walking and running excitations by one person (single excitation) were considered to evaluate the vibration serviceability of the composite floor. The measured acceleration results show a satisfactory vibration perceptibility. For design convenience and safety, a crest factor βrp describing the ratio of peak acceleration to root-mean-square acceleration induced from the walking and running excitations is proposed. The comparisons of the modal parameters determined by walking and running tests reveal the interaction effect between the human excitation and the composite floor.

Most high rise buildings have been constructed with steel structure systems with metal deck floors and concrete topping. Since the mass of the metal deck floor system is relatively thinner than that of the concrete floor system and due to the larger span compared to other floor systems, vibration serviceability problems are frequently occurred. Most of vibration problems are induced by the movement of humans. A walking load function was proposed for the better estimation of composite deck floor vibration based on site measurements in this paper.
This paper presents an investigation of the thermal performance of composite floor slabs with profiled steel decking exposed to fire effects from floor. A detailed finite-element model has been developed by representing the concrete slab with steel decking under of it and steel beam both steel parts protected by intumescent coating. Although this type of floor systems offers a better fire resistance, passive fire protection materials should be applied when a higher fire resistance is desired. Moreover, fire exposed side is so crucial for composite slab systems as the total fire behaviour of the floor system changes dramatically. When the fire attack from steel parts, the temperature rises rapidly resulting in a sudden decrease on the strength of the beam and decking. Herein this paper, the fire attack side is assumed from the face of the concrete floor (top of the concrete assembly). Therefore, the heat is transferred through concrete to the steel decking and reaching finally to the steel beam both protected by intumescent coating. In this work, the numerical model has been established to predict the heat transfer performance including material properties such as thermal conductivity, specific heat and dry film thickness of intumescent coating. The developed numerical model has been divided into different layers to understand the sensitivity of steel temperature to the number of layers of intumescent coating. Results show that the protected composite floors offer a higher fire resistance as the temperature of the steel section remains below 60℃ even after 60-minute Standard (ISO) fire and Fast fire exposure. Obtaining lower temperatures in steel due to the great fire performance of the concrete itself results in lesser reductions of strength and stiffness hence, lesser deflections.

As the requirement of high-rise buildings in big cities increases, steel structural system becomes more popular in spite of the relatively higher material cost compared to that of the concrete structural system. Most of the steel structure adopts metal deck floor system because of the easiness in construction. However, the metal deck floor system has a weakness on vibration which became very important factor in office buildings, hotels and residential buildings as the more sensitive machines being used. Therefore, most, of the building codes in many countries restrict the natural frequency of the each floor should be higher than or equal to 15 Hz. Floor vibration of the KEM deck composite floor system which has been , developed recently from the engineers and scientists in Korea was measured. Also, the simplified analytical derivation of natural frequency for each floor was studied according to the measured natural frequency for each different boundary condition of the floor. As the length of the slab gets bigger, the natural frequency of the slab becomes lower even though the structural designer still considers it as a one-way slab.
