Evolution of strain states during Cross-roll rolling in AA 5052 sheet using Finite Element Method (유한요소 해석을 통한 AA 5052 판재의 Cross-roll 압연시 변형율 상태의 변화)

  • In the present work, cross-roll rolling was carried out using a rolling mill in which the roll axis is tilted by $7.5^{\circ}$ towards the transverse direction of the rolled sample. The evolution of strain states during cross-roll rolling was investigated by three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) simulation. Parallel to cross-roll rolling, normal-rolling using a conventional rolling mill was also carried out in the same rolling condition for clarifying the effect of cross-roll rolling. It turned out that three shear rate components were all introduced to the rolled sample by the cross-roll rolling process, while only one shear rate component operated during normal-rolling.

A Study on the Technological Competitiveness of Aircraft Infra Industries by using Patents (특허분석을 통한 항공기반산업의 기술경쟁력에 관한 연구)

  • This paper considers the technological competitiveness of aircraft infra industries that are bases of the aircraft industry development in Korea. We performed focus group interviews to aircraft industry specialists and classified the aircraft infra industries by eight fields: metallurgical assembly, general machinery, precision instruments, materials & parts, communication appliances, computer, semi-conductor/ electronic component, electronics. Through the United States patents analysis for the G7 countries and Korea during 1995-2006, we identified the technological specificities and competences of each country. RTA(Revealed Technology Advantage) index and CII(Current Impact Index) are used to examine the technological specificity and technological competence respectively. Finally, we introduced TCI(Technological Competitiveness Index) which could reflect quantitative level as well as qualitative level of patents for each aircraft infra industry. The results show that Korea has occupied the technological competitiveness in the semi-conductor and electronic component industry out of eight aircraft infra industries, and achieved a competitive edge in communication appliance industry in the mid 2000s.

Optimum Vibration Angle for Transporting Granular Materials on Linear Conveyors

  • Vibratory conveyors are widely used in industry to transport granular materials and products. A theoretical point mass model for vibratory conveying was studied. The results agreed well with experimental observations. The model theory included the resting, sliding and flight states of the material. Each state was considered separately when determining the equations of motion. For the coefficients of restitution, values of zero for the normal component and 0.8 for the tangential component were found to be appropriate for modeling the collisions of the granular particles with the conveying surface. The vibration angle had a large influence on the mode and rate of transport. There was an optimum vibration angle for a given set of conditions. The optimum vibration angle decreased and was better defined as the coefficient of friction increased. The results suggest the existence of an optimum dimensionless track acceleration (throw number), which does not support general industrial practice in which the track acceleration is limited when the feed cycle becomes erratic and unstable.

  • Amplication factor spectrum has been obtained and compared with standard Response Spectrum using the observed strong ground motions database. The observed ground motions from the Miramichi, Nahanni, Saguenay and New Madrid Earthquake (vertical component 19. horizontal component 36). which are estimated to represent domestic seismotectonic characteristics such as seismic source, attenuation, and site effect, are used for the analysis of amplication factor spectrum. Amplication factor has been calculated using both observed peak values and results from responses to the observed horizontal and vertical ground motions. The comparison shows that the amplication factors resultant from this study exceeds those of Standard Response Spectrum at relatively higher frequencies. The results implie that the characteristics of the seismic strong ground motion which may represent the domestic seismotectonic characteristics differs from those of Standard Response Spectrum, which are resultant from the strong ground motions observed mainly at the westem United States.

  • We present an output feedback controller for a class of nonlinear systems with uncertain nonlinearity and sensor noise. The sensor noise has both a finite constant component and a time-varying component such that its integral function is finite. The new design and analysis method is based on the matrix inequality approach. With our proposed controller, the states and output can be ultimately bounded even though the structure of nonlinearity is more general than that in the existing results.

Dynamic state estimation for identifying earthquake support motions in instrumented structures

  • The problem of identification of multi-component and (or) spatially varying earthquake support motions based on measured responses in instrumented structures is considered. The governing equations of motion are cast in the state space form and a time domain solution to the input identification problem is developed based on the Kalman and particle filtering methods. The method allows for noise in measured responses, imperfections in mathematical model for the structure, and possible nonlinear behavior of the structure. The unknown support motions are treated as hypothetical additional system states and a prior model for these motions are taken to be given in terms of white noise processes. For linear systems, the solution is developed within the Kalman filtering framework while, for nonlinear systems, the Monte Carlo simulation based particle filtering tools are employed. In the latter case, the question of controlling sampling variance based on the idea of Rao-Blackwellization is also explored. Illustrative examples include identification of multi-component and spatially varying support motions in linear/nonlinear structures.

  • Fragility analysis is an effective tool that is frequently used for seismic risk assessment of bridges. There are three different approaches to derive a fragility curve: experimental, empirical and analytical. Both experimental and empirical methods to derive fragility curve are based on past earthquake reports and expert opinions which are not suitable for all bridges. Therefore, analytical fragility analysis becomes important. Nonlinear time history analysis is commonly used which is the most reliable method for determining probabilistic demand models. In this study, to determine the probabilistic demand models of bridges, time history analyses were performed considering both material and geometrical nonlinearities. Serviceability limit states for three different service velocities were considered as a performance goal. Also, support displacements, component yielding and collapse limits were taken into account. Both serviceability and component fragility were derived by using maximum likely hood methods. Finally, the seismic performance and critical members of the bridge were probabilistically determined and clearly presented.

  • This study examines the impact of trade facilitation on China's trade for the period 2010-2017 using a gravity model with a measurement of APEC trade facilitation through principal component analysis. The empirical results confirmed that trade facilitation was a key factor to have a positive effect on Chinese exports and that the higher the level of trade facilitation in APEC countries, the more positive the increase in exports and quantities with China. Further, the size of the economy, the total population, and the border between the trading partner had a positive effect on Chinese trade volume. To promote economic growth through increase in trade volume, countries should actively improve trade facilitation and participate in global trade facilitation reform through continuous cooperation with trading partners.

  • In this paper, we develop analysis models for classification of temporal data from human subjects. The study focuses on the analysis of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals obtained during various emotional states. We demonstrate a generally applicable method of removing EOG and EMG artifacts from EEGs based on independent component analysis (ICA). All EEG channel maps were interpolated from 10 EEG subbands.
