HCI(Human Computer Interaction) enables the interaction between people and computers by using a human-familiar interface called as Modality. Recently, to provide an optimal interface according to various devices and service environment, an advanced HCI method using multiple modalities is intensively studied. However, the multimodal interface has difficulties that modalities have different data formats and are hard to be cooperated efficiently. To solve this problem, a multimodal communicator is introduced, which is based on EMMA(Extensible Multimodal Annotation Markup language) and MMI(Multimodal Interaction Framework) of W3C(World Wide Web Consortium) standards. This standard based framework consisting of modality component, interaction manager, and presentation component makes multiple modalities interoperable and provides a wide expansion capability for other modalities. Experimental results show that the multimodal communicator is facilitated by using multiple modalities of eye tracking and gesture recognition for a map browsing scenario.

A field survey for dinoflagellate cysts was carried out from May 2000 to November 2002 for the Southwest Sea of Korea. A total dinoflagellate cysts identified were 33 species, which belonged to 17 genera, 31 species, and 2 unidentified species. A cysts density were 16-1,501 cysts-gdry$^{-1}$. The dominant species of dinoflagellate cysts in the Southwestern Sea of Korea were Spiniferites bulloideus and Scrippsiella trochoidea, which are autotrophic species. To investigate the environmental characteristics of the Southwestern Sea of Korea using the dinoflagellate cysts, a principal component analysis (PCA) was conducted using the data collected from a total of 51 stations. From the score distribution map by the PCA, the Southwestern Sea of Korea was largely divided into three regions according to the first primary component and the second primary component. In other words, Group 1 was the western sea area of Mokpo and Jindo, Group 2 was the outer sea area of the South Sea, and Group 3 was the coastal areas of the South Sea around the Archipelago. It was found that this division of sea area was influenced by effects of the sea environment of the coastal areas of Korea. The coastal areas of Mokpo and Jindo that belong to Group 1 were affected by the cold Yellow Sea water. The outer sea area of the central parts of the South Sea that belong to Group 2, which is the boundary between the Southern coastal water of Korea and the Tsushima warm water, was subject to the formation of temperature fronts throughout the year, while Group 3 was affected by the coastal waters of Korea. It was also found that this division was in close relationship with the distribution of sediment facies in the bottom layer. From the above results, the environmental factors that influence the cyst distribution in he Southwestern Sea of Korea were found to include the eutrophication status of the sea area, the physical characteristics of the sea environment such as the flow of sea current and fronts, the sediment facies in the bottom layer, and the appearance volume of motile cells.

Objective : Thujae Orientalis Folium (TOF) can cool the blood and stop bleeding, eliminate phlegm and relieve cough in Oriental medicine. In addition, the fresh is used alone externally. Recently, TOF is known to have anti-tumor component. And also known to have tyrosinase inhibitory effect. Method : For these reasons, this study was designed to investigate anti-cancer and whitening activities of TOF. In this experiment, effects of TOF on proliferation rates of melanoma cells and on changes in genetic profiles were investigated. The genetic profile for the effect on human derived melanoma cell, SK-MEL-2, was measured using microarray technique, and the functional analysis on these genes was conducted. Results : Total 541 genes were up-regulated and 1,079 genes down-regulated in cells treated with TOF. Genes induced by TOF were mainly concerned with anti-cancer effects and apoptosis. Genes suppresed by TOF were related in extracellular signalling pathway. The network of total protein interactions was measured using cytoscape program, and some key molecules, such as THAP1, MAX1, STAM2, SMAD6, CYCS, PEX5, PSEN1, NONO, MAP2K7 and CREB1 that can be used for elucidation of therapeutical mechanism of medicine in future were identified. Conculusion : These results suggest possibility of TOF as anti-cancer drug for human melanoma. In addition, the present author also suggest that related mechanisms are involved in inhibition of several cancer pathway, activation of apoptosis pathway and suppression of general metabolic pathway.

In currently developed engine condition monitoring systems, most field engine maintenance engineers have difficulties to use them in fields due to complexity, unpractical use, lack of understanding, etc. Therefore a practical usable engine condition monitoring system must be needed. This work proposes a practical performance condition monitoring of a small turbojet engine through comparing between the on-line performance monitoring data and the initial clean performance data calculated by the base engine performance model. Moreover the proposed monitoring system checks the gas path components' on-line health condition through comparing the component performance characteristics between the running engine represented as a deteriorated engine or a degraded engine and the base engine performance model represented as a clean engine. The proposed condition monitoring system is coded in a friendly GUI type program for easy practical application by a commercial tool, MATLAB/SIMULINK and LabVIEW.

In this paper, we propose a real-time two-dimensional bar code detection system even at long range using a vision technique. We first perform short-range detection, and then long-range detection if the short-range detection is not successful. First, edge map generation, image binarization, and connect component labeling (CCL) are performed in order to select a region of interest (ROI). After interpolating the selected ROI using bilinear interpolation, a location symbol pattern is detected as the same as for short-range detection. Finally, the symbol pattern is arranged by applying inverse perspective transformation to localize bar codes. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system successfully detects bar codes at two or three times longer distance than existing ones even at indoor environment.

This paper proposes an algorithm of segmentation and title detection for document image. The automated title detection method that we have developed is composed of two phases, segmentation and title area detection. In the first phase, we extract and segment the document image. To perform this operation, the binary map is segmented by combination of morphological operation and CCA(connected component algorithm). The first phase provides segmented regions that would be detected as title area for the second stage. Candidate title areas are detected using geometric information, then we can extract the title region that is performed by removing non-title regions. After classification step that removes non-text regions, projection is performed to detect a title region. From the fact that usually the largest font is used for the title in the document, horizontal projection is performed within text areas. In this paper, we proposed a method of segmentation and title detection for various forms of document images using geometric features and projection profile analysis. The proposed system is expected to have various applications, such as document title recognition, multimedia data searching, real-time image processing and so on.
We present our observational results of BL Lacertae(2200+420) obtained at 22, 43, 86, and 129 GHz simultaneously during 27 months(2013.Jan ~ 2015.Mar) which includes their two gamma-ray outbursts(2013.Oct & 2015.Mar) to study a connection between the gamma-ray outbursts and the radio activity. We mainly use a Korean VLBI monitoring program, IMOGABA(Interferometric Monitoring Of Gamma-ray Bright AGNs) which is a monthly monitoring program with the KVN(Korean VLBI Network). Overall, our KVN image shows two components in the map, a stationary core at the center and one moving jet component to the south, but almost core only at 86, 129 GHz. The location of the moving jet component in the maps depend on the frequencies that 22, 43, 86, and 129 GHz. We have checked light curves, spectral index, kinematics, and radio structure to find differences before and after the gamma-ray outbursts, but there was no significant correlation. We also have derived a decay time scale of ~9 months for the major radio outburst by applying an exponential decay fitting.

A systematic humidity correction technique that can be used for any type of engine control mode is developed to predict the variation of engine performance due to inlet humidity. Limitation of conventional method is rot identified and then, a new method is proposed to take into account the humidity effects on each engine component characteristics and to find the variation of equilibrium running point through a re-match process between the components with a given engine control variable depending on the humidity of inlet. Comparisons are made between two methods for a single spool gas turbine engine, and it was found that the conventional method leads to invalid correction when a physical variable such as rotational speed is controlled for engine operation in humid environment. It was also found that the accuracy of the conventional method depends on the engine control mode and the engine configuration whereas the proposed method can be used for any type of engine control mode and engine configuration.
Recently the natural damage associated with flood disaster has been dramatically increased. Especially, inundation in the urban area causes serious damage to people and assets because of the concentration of infrastructure and population growth. The purpose of this study is to develop a new urban inundation model combining a storm sewer system model and a 2D overland-flow model for the estimation inundation depth In urban area caused by the surcharge of storm sewers. The movement of water in the studied urban watershed is characterized by two components, namely, the storm sewer flow component and the surcharge-induced inundation component. The model was applied to Goonja and Jangan catchments. Inundated depths were presented to demonstrate model simulation results. The simulation results can help the authority decide preventing flood damages by redesigning and enlarging the capacities of storm sewer systems in the inundation-prone areas. The model can also be applied to make the potential inundation area map and establish flood-mitigation measures as a part of the decision support system for flood control authority.

Korea needs proper and rational public policies on conservation and use of forest land and other natural resources because of the accelerating expansion of national land developments in recent years. Unfortunately, there is no systematic planning system to support the needs. Generally, forest land use planning needs suitability analysis based on efficient land classification system. The goal of this study was to classify a forest land using multivariate satistical methods. A case study was carried out in winter of 1983 on a mountainous area higher than 100m above sea level located at Mt. Kwanak in Anyang -city, Kyung-gi-do (province). The study area was 19.80 km$^2$wide and was divided into 1, 383 Operational Taxonomic Units (OTU's) by a 120m$\times$120m grid. Fourteen descriptors were identified and quantified for each OTU from existing national land data : elevation, slope, aspect, terrain form, geologic material, surface soil permeability, topsoil type, depth of the solum, soil acidity, forest cover type, stand size class, stand age class, stand density class, and simple forest soil capability class. For this study, a FORTRAN IV program was written for input and output map data, and the computer statistics packages, SPSS and BMD, were used to perform the multivariate statistical analysis. Fourteen variables were analyzed to investigate the characteristics of their fire quench distribution and to estimate the correlation coefficients among them. Principal component analysis was executed to find the dimensions of forest land characteristics, and factor scores were used for proper samples of OTU throughout the study area. In order to develop the classes of forest land classification based on 102 surrogates, cluster and discriminant analyses of principal descriptor variable matrix were undertaken. Results obtained through a series of multivariate statistical analyses were as follows ; 1) Principal component analysis was proved to be a useful tool for data selection and identification of principal descriptor variables which represented the characteristics of forest land and facilitated the selection of samples.
