  • The SymMerge algorithm is an efficient merging algorithm for input sequences u and v of sizes $\left|u \right|=m$ and $\left|v \right|=n$, $m{\leq}n$. We consider complexity analysis for SymMerge algorithm regarding to the required number of comparisons. The focus of the previous complexity analysis was on finding the values of upper bounds, i.e. showing the asymptotical optimality. In this paper, in a different way from the previous complexity analysis, we show that the overall required number of comparisons for two representative special cases "symmetric case" and "maximum spanning case" can be calculated exactly i.e. the least upper bounds regarding to the required number of comparisons are calculated. Symmerge requires exactly $m\;log\frac{n}{m}+4m-logm-3$ comparisons for symmetric case of sizes $m=2^k,\;n=2^l,l{\geq}k$ of input sequences and exactly $\frac{1}{2}m^2+(m+1)logm-\frac{3}{2}m+2$ comparisons for maximum spanning case of sizes $m=2^k,n=2^m-m$ of input sequences. Additionally we show that the complexity of the Symmerge algorithm regarding to the overall required number of comparisons for these special cases can be defined by recurrence relations.

  • The visual preference of interiors focusing on lobbies was investigated as a function of six predictor variable on the base of the Informational Approach: complexity, coherence, mystery, spaciousness, brightness, plant. The Common Fcator Analysis of preference ratings yielded six common factors which helped to account for 22.3 percent of the variance in preference response to the scene. Among these factors, the factor defined as 'bright with many plants' was the most preferred and the factor defined as 'simple and closed' was the least preferred. The environmental attributes reflected in six groups of scenes were colour, resting place, window and the six predictors. In the commercial building scenes, complexity, spaciousness, coherence, brightness and mystery out of six predictors accounted for 74 percent of preference variance as the significant contributors. In the business building scenes, three predictors which are brightness, complexity, spaciousness accounted for 84 percent of preference variance. 'The amount of plant' not only influenced the preference indirectly through the intervening variable, complexity, but also was moderately correlated with brightness. The overall pattern of the resulted confirmed the usefulness of the Informational Approach to predict the preference in interiors focusing on lobbies.

  • A trend in 3D mesh compression is codec design with low computational complexity which preserves the input vertex and face order. However, this added information increases the complexity. We present a fast 3D mesh compression method that compresses the redundant shared vertex information between neighboring faces using simple first-order differential coding followed by fast entropy coding with a fixed length prefix. Our algorithm is feasible for low complexity designs and maintains the order, which is now part of the MPEG-4 scalable complexity 3D mesh compression standard. The proposed algorithm is 30 times faster than MPEG-4 3D mesh coding extension.

  • This paper analyzes the time complexity of Genetic Algorithm based Task Scheduling (GATS) which is designed for the scheduling of parallel programs with diverse embedded parallelism types in a heterogeneous network systems. The analysis of time complexity is performed based on two representation methods (REIA, REIS) which are proposed in this paper to encode the scheduling information. And the heterogeneous network systems consist of a set of loosely coupled parallel and vector machines connected via a high-speed network. The objective of heterogeneous network computing is to solve computationally intensive problems that have several types of parallelism, on a suite of high performance and parallel machines in a manner that best utilizes the capabilities of each machine. Therefore, when scheduling in heterogeneous network systems, the matching of the parallelism characteristics between tasks and parallel machines should be carefully handled in order to obtain more speedup. This paper shows how the parallelism type matching affects the time complexity of GATS.

  • The contribution of degraded human performance (e.g., human errors) is significant for the safety of diverse social-technical systems. Therefore, it is crucial to understand when and why the performance of human operators could be degraded. In this study, the occurrence probability of human errors was empirically estimated based on the complexity of proceduralized tasks. To this end, Logistic regression analysis was conducted to correlate TACOM (Task Complexity) scores with human errors collected from the full-scope training simulator of nuclear power plants equipped with analog devices (analog environment). As a result, it was observed that the occurrence probability of both errors of commission and errors of omission can be soundly estimated by TACOM scores. Since the effect of diverse performance influencing factors on the occurrence probabilities of human errors could be soundly distinguished by TACOM scores, it is also expected that TACOM scores can be used as a tool to explain when and why the performance of human operators starts to be degraded.

  • Object detection technology is one of the main research topics in the field of computer vision and has established itself as an essential base technology for implementing various vision systems. Recent DNN (Deep Neural Networks)-based algorithms achieve much higher recognition accuracy than traditional algorithms. However, it is well-known that the DNN model inference operation requires a relatively high computational power. In this paper, we analyze the inference time complexity of the state-of-the-art object detection architecture Yolov7 in various environments. Specifically, we compare and analyze the time complexity of four types of the Yolov7 model, YOLOv7-tiny, YOLOv7, YOLOv7-X, and YOLOv7-E6 when performing inference operations using CPU and GPU. Furthermore, we analyze the time complexity variation when inferring the same models using the Pytorch framework and the Onnxruntime engine.

  • The majority of research on Automated Writing Evaluation (AWE) programs has focused primarily on Grammarly, whereas QuillBot and its use in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms remains limitedly explored. This study examined the effectiveness of using QuillBot on the writing quality of college students. A total of 26 participants took pre- and post-writing tests, and four analytical tools were applied to assess their writing quality in terms of syntactic complexity, lexical diversity, lexical richness, and readability. Results of the syntactic complexity analysis across the four indices demonstrates that the syntactic complexity of EFL writing increased significantly, and substantial differences were observed in lexical richness and readability. These results suggest that QuillBot can compensate for the drawbacks of Grammarly and assist EFL writers in improving their overall writing quality.

  • Space exploration project usually consists of so many fields of sub projects that it has a diverse ripple effect throughout the economy. Further studies could not consider the complexity of the space exploration project because they regarded it as one project in spite of the diversity. This study found a way to consider complexity of space exploration project using the concept of WAC(weighted average coefficient). The moon exploration project (2014~2020) is the subject of this study. We classified the moon exploration project into 8 industries and calculated the WAC of production inducement coefficient, value added inducement coefficient, and employment inducement coefficient. The result of analysis using these WACs is that production inducement effect amounts to 1,229.6 billion won, value added inducement effect 324.6 billion won, employment inducement effect 4,844 men. And the linkage effect analysis shows that moon exploration project has more backward linkage effect than forward linkage effect.

  • Due to recent increased air traffic,, air traffic controllers in charge of en-route and approach control have faced huge increase in both workload and its intensity. The purpose of this paper is to analyze how much safety culture of air traffic controllers has effect on their complexity mitigation strategies during their duties. It could be expected complexity mitigation improve air traffic flow resulting in enhancing safety eventually. According to empirical analysis against air traffic controllers in civil aviation and air force in South Korea, it was proven safety culture had a statistically positive effect on complex mitigation strategies through safety behavior. In safety culture among air traffic controllers, intrinsic culture had a positive effect on extrinsic value of safety culture. Intrinsic value of safety culture led to air traffic controllers' safety behavior which created work complexity mitigation strategies. Among work complexity mitigation strategies, communication and cooperation was proven to be the most important factor effected by safety culture and behavior. It was implied that enhancing the intrinsic values of safety culture would cause to improve extrinsic safety culture and air traffic controller's work efficiency.
