The guideline of selection of Integrated Management Practices (IMPs), such as wood, green roof, lawn, and porous pavement, for Low Impact Development (LID) design was proposed by ranking the reduction rate of surface runoff using LIDMOD1.0. Based on the guideline, LID was designed with several scenarios at two apartment complexes located at Songpa-gu, Seoul, Korea, and the effect of LID on surface runoff was evaluated during last 10 years. The effect of runoff reduction of IMP by land use change was highly dependent on the kind of hydrologic soil group. The wood planting is the best IMPs for reduction of surfac runoff for all hydrologic soil groups. Lawn planting is an excellent IMP for hydrologic soil group A, but reduction rate is low where soil doesn't effectively drains precipitation. The green roof shows constant reduction rate of surface runoff because it is not influenced by hydrologic soil group. Compared to the rate of other IMPs, the green roof is less effect the surface runoff reduction for hydrologic soil group A and is more effect for hydrologic soil group C and D followed to planing wood. The porous pavement for the impervious area is IMPs which is last selected for LID design because of the lowest reduction rate for all hydrologic soil group. As a result of LID application at study areas, we could conclude that the first step of the strategy of LID design at apartment complex is precuring pervious land as many area as possible, second step is selecting the kind of plant as more interception and evapotranspiration as possible, last step is replacing impervious land with porous pavement.
In this study, we investigated the lead exposure conditions using feathers of pigeons as a monitor for lead pollution from rural (Duckjeok Island), central urban (Seoul), and industrial complex areas (Yochon, Ansan, Ulsan, and Busan) in Korea. The feathers were taken from breast body parts and their lead analysis was performed without washing the feathers to reflect lead particles attached to the surface. The tissue lead concentrations were also compared with levels of atmospheric concentrations. The lead levels in the feathers were increased when the atmospheric lead levels were higher, so that the lead levels in the feathers of the pigeons from the industrial complex area with highest atmospheric lead levels were about four times greater than those of the rural areas. A positive correlation was found between the lead concentration of the pigeon's livers and feathers in rural, and the Yochon industrial complex area with the lowest lead levels. This result means that most of lead in feathers is transported from body tissues during the molting period without attached atmospheric lead. Thus, the feather lead concentrations could be discussed in the light of the metabolism known to occur between the liver and feathers. However, there were not significant correlations in the other areas with higher atmospheric lead levels, and observed relatively higher lead accumulation ratio in feathers than in livers compared with rural and the Yochon industrial complex areas. It is therefore suggested that the former was more exposure conditions and mainly influenced by outer pollutant sources than by the metabolism as the latter.

In this study, the effect of the restoration of Yaksa stream and the construction of an apartment complex by the urban renewal project in the Yaksa district of Chuncheon on air quality in the surrounding area was evaluated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model simulations. In orderto compare the impact of the project, wind and pollutant concentration fields were simulated using topographic data in 2011 and 2017, which stand for the periods before and after the urban renewal project, respectively. In the numerical experiments, the scenarios were set to analyze the effect of the construction of the apartment complex and the effect of stream restoration. Wind direction and wind speed data obtained from the Chuncheon Automated Synoptic Observing System (ASOS) were used as the inflow boundary conditions, and the simulation results were weighted according to the frequencies of the eight-directional inflow wind directions. The changes in wind speed and NOX concentration distribution according to the changes in building and terrain between scenarios were compared. As a result, the concentration of NOX emitted from the surrounding roads increased by the construction of the apartment complex, and the magnitude of the increase was reduced as the result of including the effect of stream restoration. The concentration of NOX decreased around the restored stream, while the concentration increased significantly around the constructed apartment complex. The increase in the concentration of NOX around the apartment complex was more pronounced in the place located in the rear of the wind direction to the apartment complex, and the effect remains up to the height of the building. In conclusion, it was confirmed that the relative arrangement of apartment complex construction and stream restoration in relation to the main wind direction of the target area was one of the major factors in determining the surrounding air quality.

Along with emergence of recent issues such as 'minimization of energy consumption' and 'natural environment and human health' amid the flow of requirements for nature-friendly architecture, attempts for boundary, which has a variety of possibilities as the intermediate territory between interior and exterior space of the architecture, have been pursued actively. On the ground of close relationships between urban area and architecture in a modern society, the boundary between interior and exterior is being exhibited in a wide variety of way of expressions, not as a single plane any longer. In line with this, researcher analyzed interior and exterior boundary according to its type targeting modern housing complex in Europe, and also investigated characteristics thereof. And, having provided the results as basic materials in order to seek amenity of local apartment houses and diversification of housing plan as well, the researcher intends to be of a help to bring physical changes in both building and exterior design, and also to give a new meaning in an environment-friendly aspect.
The study analyzes groundwater balance with regard to the water recharge and discharge which contain urbanization components in Suyeong-gu, Busan. It also verifies the reliability and accuracy improvement on the analysis of the balance. The result of the study is viewed as preliminary data which are useful to develop, utilize and manage groundwater. The average quantity of groundwater recharge is 6,014.1 $m^3$/day in the research area during the last ten year period(from 1998 to 2007). The outflow from drainage areas to rivers and coasts is 149.3 $m^3$/day, the inflow from rivers and coasts to drainage area is 439.9 $m^3$/day. The use of the water is 4,243.0 $m^3$/day. The outflow caused by subway in line No.2 and No.3 through Suyeong-gu and the one by building an underground electric complex is 1,500.0 $m^3$/day. The leakage of water works is 6514.9 $m^3$/day. The inflow and outflow of sewerage is 5082.2 $m^3$/day from groundwater to sewer. The amount of groundwater recharge, the inflow from rivers and coasts to drainage area, and the leakage of water works belong to the amount of groundwater inflow and the total amount is 12,968.9 $m^3$/day. The amount of outflow from drainage area to rivers and coasts, the use of groundwater, outflow by subway and underground electric complex tunnel and the amount of inflow of the water to sewerage belong to the amount of outflow of groundwater and the sum amount is 13,031.5 $m^3$/day. The gap between the amount of inflow and outflow of groundwater is 62.6 $m^3$/day, which is considered to reflect the trend that the short term drop in the amount of rainfall results in the amount of groundwater recharge and that the amount of outflow from drainage area to rivers and coasts decreases.

This study investigates the odor from combined sewer in urban areas and major odor-causing facilities. Monitorings are conducted in specific areas that have representative characteristics. In combined sewer in urban areas, the real-time monitorings on sulfur, complex odor and specified odor are conducted. And in major odor-causing facilities, the real-time monitorings on complex odor, specified odor are conducted. Odor from combined sewer in urban area is affected by the changes on floating population and the effluent of the septic tank. Also major odor-causing facilities are largely affected by the effluent of the septic tank. The major odor-causing substances are found to be hydrogen sulfide($H_2S$) and methyl mercaptan. To reduce the odor from combined sewer, improvement of effluent from the septic tank and reduction of sulfur compounds have to be done.
Purpose: Various landscapes have been created in the process of changing containers, which were a tool of trade activities, to architecture, and today, containers have formed relationships with people as complex facilities and constantly create new cultures. In this paper, considering these container constructions from the viewpoint of the landscape, consider the meaning as one of landscape factors for creating cultural landscape. Method: In this study, a methodological framework was constructed based on various statistical data and literature materials, and analyzed texts called containers from the viewpoints of physical elements and active elements and analyzed them at the level of function. Based on literature materials, specifically, this study has handled with the cultural landscape as text, the functional dimension of urban design, and the characteristics of container construction. Result: This research analyzed the physical and active characteristics of the target area by utilizing the content of the field analysis and the contents of the interview, previous research, etc., and then content was analyzed in functional dimension. Through this process, the conclusion proposed by this research is to study the construction of a container and present the direction to analyze in the functional dimension showing the landscape characteristics that it brings forward.
Design of settlement space is a complicated process while reasonable spatial layout bears great significance on the development and resource allocation of a settlement. The study proposes a weighted L-system generation algorithm based on CA (Cellular Automation) model which tags the spatial attributes of cells through changes in their state during the evolution of CA and thus identifies the spatial growth mode of a settlement. The entrance area of the Caidian Botanical and Animal Garden is used a case study for the model. A design method is proposed which starts from the internal logics of spatial generation, explores possibility of spatial rules and realizes the quantitative analysis and dynamic control of the design process. Taking a top-down approach, the design method takes into account the site information, studies the spatial generation mechanism of settlements and further presents a engine for the generation of multiple layout proposals based on different rules. A optimal solution is acquired using GA (Genetic Algorithm) which generates a settlement spatial layout carrying site information and dynamically linked to the surround environment. The study aims to propose a design method to optimize the spatial layout of the complex settlement system based on parametric generation.
A traditional image analysis or classification method using satellite imagery is mostly based on the spectral information. However, the spatial information is more important according as the resolution is higher and spatial patterns are more complex. In this study, we attempted to compare and analyze the variogram properties of actual high resolution imageries mainly in the urban area. Through the several experiments, we have understood that the variogram is various according to a sensor type, spatial resolution, a location, a feature type, time, season and so on and shows the information related to a feature size. With simple modeling, we confirmed that the unique variogram types were shown unlike the classical variogram in case of small subsets. Based on the grasped variogram characteristics, we made a level index map for determining urban complexity or land-use classification. These results will become more and more important and be widely applied to the various fields of high-resolution imagery such as KOMPSAT-2 and KOMPSAT-3 which is scheduled to be launched.

Many megacities are exposed to natural hazards such as earthquakes, and when located in coastal regions, are also vulnerable to hurricanes and tsunamis. The physical infrastructures of transportation systems in megacities have become so complicated that very few organizations can understand their response to extreme events such as earthquakes and can effectively mitigate subsequent economic downfalls. The technological advances made in recent years to support these complex systems have not grown as fast as the rapid demand on these systems burdened by population shift toward megacities. The objective of this paper is to examine the risks imposed on and recoveries of transportation systems in megacities as the result of extreme events such as an earthquake. First, the physical damage to transportation infrastructure, loss of the transportation system performance, and the corresponding economic loss from disruptions to passenger and freight traffic is evaluated. Then, traffic flows are re-routed to reduce vehicles' delay due to earthquakes using a microscopic traffic flow simulator with an optimization model and macroscopic terminal simulator. Finally, the economic impact of the earthquake is estimated nationwide. Southern California is regarded as the region of study. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the integrated model and provide what and how to prepare innovative resilience policies of urban infrastructure for a natural disaster occurrence.
