  • Single crystal of fully dehydrated and partially Ca2+-exchanged zeolites A (|Ca4Na4|[Si12Al12O48]-LTA) was brought into contact with Se in fine pyrex capillary at 523 K for 5 days. Crystal structure of Se-sorbed |Ca4Na4|[Si12Al12O48]-LTA has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques at 294 K in the cubic space group $Pm{\bar{3}}m$ (a = 12.2787(13) Å). The crystal structure of yellow |Ca4Na4Se4|[Si12Al12O48]-LTA has been refined to the final error indices of R1/wR2 = 0.0960/0.3483 with 327 reflections for which Fo > 4s(Fo). In this structure, 4 Na+ and 4 Ca2+ ions fill every 6-ring site: These ions are all found at three crystallographic positions, on 3-fold axes equipoints of opposite 6-rings. Selenium atoms are found at three crystallographically distinct positions: 2 Se atoms per unit cell at Se(1) are located opposite 6-rings in the sodalite cavity (Se(1)-Na(1) = 2.53(5) Å) and 1 at Se(2) opposite 4-rings (Se(2)-O(1) = 2.76(10) Å) and 1 at Se(3) opposite 6-rings in the large cavity (Se(3)-Na(1) = 2.48(5) Å). Two molecular of Se2 (Se(1)-Se(1) = 2.37(7) or 2.90(8) Å and Se(2)-Se(3) = 2.91(5) ) Å) are found in all sodalite cavity and large cavity. Other clusters such as Se4 and Se8 could be existed in large cavity. The inter-selenium distances turned out to be longer that of gases Se2 molecule.

  • Background A variety of island flaps can be based on the superficial temporal artery with variable tissue composition. They can be used for defect reconstruction, cavity resurfacing, facial hair restoration, or contracture release. Methods Seventy-two patients underwent facial reconstruction using a superficial temporal artery island flap from October 2010 to October 2014. The defects had various etiologies, including trauma, burns, tumors, exposed hardware, and congenital causes. We classified the patients by indication into 5 groups: cavity resurfacing, contracture release, facial hair restoration, skin coverage, and combined. The demographic data of the patients, defect characteristics, operative procedures, postoperative results, and complications were retrospectively documented. The follow-up period ranged from 24 to 54 months. Results A total of 24 females and 48 males were included in this study. The mean age of the patients was $33.7{\pm}15.6years$. The flaps were used for contracture release in 13 cases, cavity resurfacing in 10 cases, skin coverage in 17 cases, facial hair restoration in 19 cases, and combined defects in 13 cases. No major complications were reported. Conclusions Based on our experiences with the use of superficial temporal artery island flaps, we have developed a detailed approach for the optimal management of patients with composite facial defects. The aim of this article is to provide the reader with a systematic algorithm to use for such patients.

  • Recently, on-line process monitoring systems using sensors are being extensively used to produce highquality products. However, the difficulty in installing the sensors within the mold in the cases of micro-molds, optical molds, and molds with complex structures is a serious disadvantage of such process monitoring systems. In this study, the quantitative index of a process monitoring system was evaluated with the mold cavity pressure and the nozzle pressure for the injection molding machine. In order to evaluate the effect of the nozzle pressure, we performed correlation analysis for the weight of the molded product. We also examined the control characteristics of the injection molding machine by analyzing the effect of multistage injection speed, holding pressure, and injection pressure limit on the process monitoring data.

  • Objective: To identify the available evidence on the effects of rapid maxillary expansion (RME) with three-dimensional imaging and provide meta-analytic data from studies assessing the outcomes using computed tomography. Methods: Eleven electronic databases were searched, and prospective case series were selected. Two authors screened all titles and abstracts and assessed full texts of the remaining articles. Seventeen case series were included in the quantitative synthesis. Seven outcomes were investigated: nasal cavity width, maxillary basal bone width, alveolar buccal crest width, alveolar palatal crest width, inter-molar crown width, inter-molar root apex width, and buccopalatal molar inclination. The outcomes were investigated at two-time points: post-expansion (2-6 weeks) and post-retention (4-8 months). Mean differences and 95% confidence intervals were used to summarize and combine the data. Results: All the investigated outcomes showed significant differences post-expansion (maxillary basal bone width, +2.46 mm; nasal cavity width, +1.95 mm; alveolar buccal crest width, +3.90 mm; alveolar palatal crest width, +3.09 mm; intermolar crown width, +5.69 mm; inter-molar root apex width, +2.85 mm; and dental tipping, +3.75°) and post-retention (maxillary basal bone width, +2.21 mm; nasal cavity width, +1.55 mm; alveolar buccal crest width, +3.57 mm; alveolar palatal crest width, +3.32 mm; inter-molar crown width, +5.43 mm; inter-molar root apex width, +4.75 mm; and dental tipping, 2.22°) compared to pre-expansion. Conclusions: After RME, skeletal expansion of the nasomaxillary complex was greater in most caudal structures. Maxillary basal bone showed 10% post-retention relapse. During retention period, uprighting of maxillary molars occurred.

  • Korean society is experiencing rapid growth due to industrialization and urbanization, and the aging of population is emerging. Degradation of the masticatory muscle due to aging and reduction of the number of mastications causes dry mouth syndrome with decreased saliva in the elderly. Changes in the amount and composition of saliva cause various oral diseases, especially, periodontal disease is closely related to the microorganisms that form the plaque. In the elderly education, stimulation saliva was collected at the first visit and the last visit to observe changes in microorganisms in the oral cavity. For the collection of the probes, the paraffin wax was chewed for 5 minutes. The samples were immediately refrigerated in a 50 cc plastic tube and then stored at $-20^{\circ}C$ until the next use. The subjects of this study were the elderly people aged 65 years or older, and the study was conducted on 16 persons, 3 males and 13 females. The distribution of saliva microorganisms according to rolling brushing method showed significant difference in all three groups (Aa & Red complex, Orange complex and Green complex) before and after the education. In the group who answered that they had dentures, it was confirmed that the amount of microorganisms before and after education was significantly reduced in all three groups. There was a significant decrease in the amount of microorganisms in the Aa & Red complex and Orange complex group in the case of hypertension related to systemic disease. In conclusion, the higher the interest of oral health and general health of the subjects, the more effective the education.

  • The crystal shnture of dehydrated fully Cd2+-exchanged zeolite A evacuated at 2 × 10-6 Torr and 650℃ (a:12.189(2) A) and of its iodine sorption corrplex (a:12.168(2)A) have been netsmlmn by single uystal x-ray diffraction techliques in the cubic space group hkTn at 21(1)℃. The strutures were refined to final error indices, Ri:0.057 and R2 =0.063 with 186 reflections and Rl:0.082 and R2:0.085 with 181 reflections, respectively, for which 1>3σ(In both structure, six lie at two distinguished threefold axes of unit cell ten the crystal structure of an iodine sorption complex of Cd6-A four Cd2+ ions are recessed 0.69(1) A into the large cavity to complex each with from the (111) plane of 0(3), whereas two Cd2+ ions recessed 0.68(1) A into the sodalite unit Awximately 4.0 l3ions per nit cell are sorbed. Each bridge between a Cd2+ ion and 8-ring oxygens ((I-I-I)= 117(1) ˚ and 0(1)-I(1)-I(2)=172(1)). The near linear I-I-0 angle and its interatomic distance (I-0=3.57(3) A) are indicative of a weak charge transfer interacticn between the frarrework oxygen and iodine. The existence of In3 inside the large cavity indicates that the If ions and H ions may be produced by reaction of In vapor with water molecules which maybe associated with Cd2+ ions in partially dehydrated Cd6-A In3- ions may be produced by the combination of I- and I2.

  • In most industrial applications, the geometrical complexity is combined with the moving boundaries. These problems considerably increase the computational difficulties since they require, respectively, regeneration and deformation of the grid. As a result, engineering flow simulation is restricted. In order to solve this kind of problems the immersed boundary method was developed. In this study, the immersed boundary method is applied to the numerical simulation of stationary, rotating and oscillating cylinders in the 2-dimensional square cavity. No-slip velocity boundary conditions are given by imposing feedback forcing term to the momentum equation. Besides, this technique is used with a second-order accurate interpolation scheme in order to improve the accuracy of flow near the immersed boundaries. The governing equations for the mass and momentum using the immersed boundary method are discretized on the non-staggered grid by using the finite volume method. The results agree well with previous numerical and experimental results. This study presents the possibility of the immersed boundary method to apply to the complex flow experienced in the industrial applications. The usefulness of this method will be confirmed when we solve the complex geometries and moving bodies.

  • The feasibility of electrochemical drilling and milling on stainless steel are investigated using tungsten microelectrode with $10{\mu}m$ in diameter. For the development of environmentally friendly and safe electrochemical process, citric acid solution is used as electrolyte. A few hundred nanoseconds duration pulses are applied between the microelectrode and work material for dissolution localization. Tool fracture by Joule heating, micro welding, capillary phenomenon, tool wandering by the generated bubbles are observed and their effects on micro ECM are discussed. Occasionally, complex textures including micro pitting corrosion marks appeared on the hole inner surface. Metal growth is also observed under the weak electric conditions and it hinders further dissolutions for workpiece penetration. By adjusting appropriate pulse and chemical conditions, micro holes of $37{\mu}m$ in diameter with $100{\mu}m$ in depth and 26Jim in diameter with $50{\mu}m$ in depth are drilled on stainless steel 304. Also, micro grooves with $18{\mu}m$ width and complex micro hand pattern are machined by electrochemical milling.

  • Congenital diaphragmatic hernia [CDH] is a surgical emergency in the newborn infant because it causes severe cardiorespiratory distress. Congenital diaphragmatic eventration [CDE] may also produce severe cardiorespiratory distress in the newborn infant. CDH is an anatomically simple defect that can be easily repaired by reduction of the displaced viscera from the pleural cavity and closure of the diaphragmatic defect. But these infants mortality has not been reduced and still remains very high. The barrier to survival is pulmonary parenchymal and vascular hypoplasia as well as the complex syndrome of persistent fetal circulation. Between May, 1985 and Oct, 1987, 4 neonates with CDH and 1 neonate with CDE were seen in respiratory distress within 12 hrs of birth at St. Francisco general hospital. Each had severe acidosis and hypoxia. And was transferred from a local clinic. They were surgically repaired within 24 hrs of birth. Three neonates lived and two died. Two of the three neonates with CDH operated in the first 6 hrs died. The remaining two [one with CDH, the other with CDE] operated between 6hrs and 24 hrs lived. One case of mortality was combined with bilateral pulmonary hypoplasia and contralateral pneumothorax. The other one case of mortality was combined with complex syndrome of persistent fetal circulation after honeymoon period.

  • One of the methods to increase the solubility of a drug is to use complexation with a cyclodextrin. Due to the hydrophobic nature of the interior cavity of the cyclodextrin, it has been known that undissociated lipophilic drugs can be included within the cyclodextrin by hydrophobic interaction. Recently, inclusion of hydrophilic or dissociated form of a drug has been investigated. In this study, the synergism of pH and complexation with $hydroxypropy-{\beta}-cyclodextrin\;(HP\;{\beta}\;CD)$ to increase the solubility of two oxicam derivatives was investigated. In addition, the effect of partition coefficient of dissociated and undissociated form of the drug on the extent of complexation with HP ${\beta}$ CD was studied. The solubility was measured by equilibrium solubility method. The solubility of tenoxicam and piroxicam increased exponentially with an increase in solution pH above the pKa of the drug in the presence and absence of HP ${\beta}$ CD. The solubility of the drugs increased linearly as a function of HP ${\beta}CD$ concentration at fixed pH. Although the stability constant of ionized species is less than that of the unionized species, the concentration of the ionized drug complex is greater than that of the unionized drug complex due to higher concentration of ionized species at pH 7.3.
