  • Small size real-time ECG signal analysis function by QRS-complex detection was put into sensor nodes. Wireless sensor nodes attached on the patient’s body transmit ECG data continuously in normal u-healthcare system. So there are heavy communication traffics between sensor nodes and gateways. New developed platform for real-time analysis of ECG signals on sensor node can be used as an advanced diagnosis and alarming system for healthcare. Sensor node does not need to transmit ECG data all the time in wireless sensor network and to server PC via gateway. When sensor node detects suspicion or abnormality in ECG, then the ECG data in the network was transmitted to the server PC for further powerful analysis. This system can reduce data packet overload and save some power in wireless sensor network. It can also increase the server performance.

  • This paper is about a complex sensor system of an automatic guided vehicle(AGV) for loading and unloading payloads. For the AGV to approach to the target rack for loading and unloading the payload, a way to identify the position and orientation was studied. To identify the position and orientation of the AGV accurately, a complex sensor system composed of RFID, IMU, and limit sensors was developed, and the performance of each sensor was undertaken. A model AGV was constructed, and the good performance of the developed complex sensor system was verified through performance experiments.

  • The interaction between carbon monoxide (CO) and a cobalt-salen complex (Co(salen)) was studied and applied to detect CO. The metal complex doped PEDOT:PSS film exhibited good sensitivity to CO and differentiate CO from other gases. The response of the composite to CO was reversible (RSD < 5%) change in resistance upon removal of CO gas from the test chamber. The effects of adding Co(salen) in the probe film on the response of the sensor were investigated using AFM, XPS, and FT-IR spectroscopy. The sensitivity of the sensor increased as the Co(salen) concentration enhanced as it increased from 0.0 to 1.5 wt. %, where the highest sensitivity ($%{\Delta}R/R_o$) of $-25.0{\pm}0.05%$ was achieved with 1.0 wt. % Co(salen). The sensor containing probe exhibited a linear response ($R^2$ = 0.983) in the range of 0.5 to 10.0% CO (v/v) $N_2$, and the detection limit was 1.74% CO (v/v) in $N_2$.

  • In this paper, we propose an intelligent streetlight system that has a complex sensor module of temperature, humidity, luminance and motion detection and controlled by the fuzzy logic based central monitoring system in order to get flexible and precise manipulation of the streetlight system in USN environment. The proposed streetlight system provides low power consumption and high efficiency by using sensed data from the complex sensor module, which were collected, processed, and analyzed by the fuzzy logic based central monitoring system. The performance of the proposed streetlight system is to be evaluated by a simulation study in terms of power savings and safety at the fields constructed as a test-bed under several suggested scenarios. Finally, we know that the proposed intelligent streetlight system can maximize the energy savings efficiently with the fuzzy logic based central monitoring system and selective remote dimming control by connecting it to the wireless ubiquitous sensor network (USN) using a Zigbee module.

  • In this study, an output-only modal identification approach is proposed for decentralized wireless sensor nodes used for linear structural systems. The following approaches are implemented to achieve the objective. Firstly, an output-only modal identification method is selected for decentralized wireless sensor networks. Secondly, the effect of time-unsynchronization is assessed with respect to the accuracy of modal identification analysis. Time-unsynchronized signals are analytically examined to quantify uncertainties and their corresponding errors in modal identification results. Thirdly, a modified approach using complex mode shapes is proposed to reduce the unsynchronization-induced errors in modal identification. In the new way, complex mode shapes are extracted from unsynchronized signals to deal both with modal amplitudes and with phase angles. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed approach is evaluated from numerical and experimental tests by comparing with the performance of existing approach using real mode shapes.

  • The RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) and the WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) have technical similarities and mutual effects, they have been recognized to be studied separately, and sufficient studies have not been conducted on the technical integration of the RFID and the WSN. Therefore, EPC global which realized the issue proposed the EPC(Electronic Produce Code) Sensor Network to efficiently integrate and interoperate the RFID and WSN technologies based on the international standard EPC global network. The proposed EPC Sensor Network technology uses the Complex Event Processing method in the middleware to integrate data occurring through the RFID and the WSN in a single environment and to interoperate the events based on the EPC global network. However, as the EPC Sensor Network technology continuously performs its operation even in the case that the minimum conditions are not to be met to find complex events in the middleware, its operation cost rises. Therefore, to address the problems of the existing system, we defined the minimum conditions of the complex events to detect unnecessary complex events in the middleware, and proposed an algorithm that can extract complex events only when the minimum conditions are to be met. To examine the minimum conditions, a index and a query index are used to extract complex events. To evaluate the performance of the proposed methods, In the case of the method of extracting complex events based on a bitmap index, we used the existing extraction method and NS2 simulation to evaluate its performance and thus to show its good performance in terms of the number of operation and the processing time for the complex events.

  • Whether a person is feeling sleepy or reasonably awake is important safety information in many areas, such as humans operating in traffic or in heavy industry. The changes of body signals have been mostly researched by looking at electroencephalogram(EEG) signals but more and more other medical signals are being examined. In our study, an electrocardiogram(ECG) signal is measured at a sampling rate of 100 Hz and used to try to distinguish the possible differences in signal between the two states: awake and drowsy. Practical tests are conducted using a wireless sensor node connected to a wearable ECG sensor, and an ECG signal is transmitted wirelessly to a base station connected to a server PC. Through the QRS complex in the ECG analysis it is possible to obtain much information that is helpful for diagnosing different types of cardiovascular disease. A program is made with MATLAB for digital signal filtering and graphing as well as recognizing the parts of the QRS complex within the signal. Drowsiness detection is performed by evaluating the R peaks, R-R interval, interval between R and S peaks and the duration of the QRS complex..

  • Efficient energy management becomes a critical design issue for complex WSN (Wireless Sensor Network). Most of complex WSN employ the sleep mode to reduce the energy dissipation. However, it should cause the reduction of sensing coverage. This paper presents new wake-up algorithm for reducing energy consumption in complex WSN. The proposed wake-up algorithm is devised using geometric probability. It determined which node will be waked-up among the nodes having overlapped sensing coverage. The only one sensor node will be waked-up and it is ready to sense the event occurred uniformly. The simulation results show that the lifetime is increased by 15% and the sensing coverage is increased by 20% compared to the other scheduling methods. Consequently, the proposed wake-up algorithm can eliminate the power dissipation in the overlapped sensing coverage. Thus, it can be applicable for the various WSN suffering from the limited power supply.

  • The current meaning of "Big Data" refers to all the techniques for value eduction and actionable analytics as well management tools. Particularly, with the advances of wireless sensor networks, they yield diverse patterns of digital records. The records are mostly semi-structured and unstructured data which are usually beyond of capabilities of the management tools. Such data are rapidly growing due to their complex data structures. The complex type effectively supports data exchangeability and heterogeneity and that is the main reason their volumes are getting bigger in the sensor networks. However, there are many errors and problems in applications because the managing solutions for the complex data model are rarely presented in current big data environments. To solve such problems and show our differentiation, we aim to provide the solution of actionable analytics and semantic reusability in the sensor web based streaming big data with new data structure, and to empower the competitiveness.
