An oncology-specific database called OncoRx (http://bit.ly/cancerRx) was previously set up in cyberspace to aid clinicians in identifying interactions of anticancer drugs (ACDs) and chemotherapy regimens with traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) and complementary and alternative medicines (CAMs). Since then, users have requested the drug-CAM interactions (DCIs) of 5 specific CAMs (cranberry, melatonin, co-enzyme Q10, huachansu, reishi mushroom) to be updated in the database. Pharmacokinetic properties (metabolism, enzyme induction/inhibition, elimination), TCM properties and DCIs of each CAM were collated with 117 ACDs using 9 hardcopy compendia and online databases as resources. Additionally, individual ACDs and CAMs were used as keywords for PubMed searches in combination with the terms 'anticancer drugs', 'drug interactions', 'herb-drug/drug-herb interactions', 'pharmacokinetic interactions' and 'pharmacodynamic interactions'. DCI parameters consisted of interaction effects, evidence summaries, proposed management plans and alternative non-interacting CAMs, together with relevant citations and update dates of the DCIs. OncoRx is also used as a case to introduce the "Four Pharmaco-cybernetic Maxims" of quality, quantity, relationship and manner to developers of digital healthcare tools. Its role in Hayne's "5S" hierarchy of research evidence is also presented. OncoRx is meant to complement existing DCI resources for clinicians and alternative medicine practitioners as an additional drug information resource that provides evidence-based DCI information for ACD-CAM interactions.
To elucidate structure-function relationship of polysaccharide from Angelica gigas, the AGE-2c-I was purified by two successive chromatography steps. AGE-2c-I showed a potent anti-complementary activity in a dose-dependent manner. AGE-2c-I with a molecular weight of 140 kDa comprised four monosaccharides and 13 glycosyl linkages, and strongly reacted with ${\beta}$-glucosyl Yariv reagent. For the fine structure analysis of AGE-2c-I, it was sequentially digested by exo-arabinofuranosidase and endo-galactanase. The results indicated that AGE-2c-I was a typical RG-I polysaccharide with side chains such as highly branched ${\alpha}$-arabinan, ${\beta}$-($1{\rightarrow}4$)-galactan and arabino-${\beta}$-3,6-galactan. To characterize the active moiety of AGE-2c-I, the anti-complementary activities of AGE-2c-I and its subfractions were assayed. It was observed that the anti-complementary activity of AGE-2c-I was due to the entire structure that resembled RG-I. In addition, arabino-${\beta}$-3,6-galactan side chain (GN-I) in AGE-2c-I probably plays a crucial role in the anti-complementary activity, whereas ${\alpha}$-arabinan side chain (AFN-I) consisting of 5-linked Araf and 3,5-branched Araf partially contributes to the activity.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of the complementary relationship-based evapotranspiration models, namely, advection-aridity (AA) model of Brutsaert and Stricker and the CRAE model of Morton for estimating actual evapotranspiration. Both models were applied to the Bokhacheon middle-upper watershed, and their estimates were evaluated against the water balance estimate. The calculation was made on a daily basis and comparison was made on monthly and annual bases. For comparison, the water balance estimates were not obtained from the observed precipitation and streamflow data but were based on the simulated data by using integrated watershed model, SWAT-K which is the revised version of SWAT. The reason not to directly use the observed data for water balance estimate is that the credible record period is not sufficient and the streamflow has been altered due to water use and release. Overall, the results showed that both AA model and CRAE model with their original parameters overestimate annual and monthly evapotranspiration, and the large difference between the complementary relationship-based approach and the water balance approach occurs especially for the dry season from Nov. to Mar. It was found out that the parameters, particularly for the advection related parameter, must be recalibrated to accurately produce monthly and annual regional evapotranspiration for this study area.
The complementary effect between FDI and its absorptive capacity has drawn more attention than before. This paper intended to explore the relationship between energy intensity and such complementary effect. The absorptive capacity of FDI shows various aspects among which we focus on the human capital, the financial system and the infrastructure in this paper. Using the panel data from 1990 to 2011, the study is processed between the 20 OECD and 20 Non-OECD countries. The empirical results shown that for OECD country, a complementary effect exists between FDI and its absorbability and it has the controlling effect on energy reduction. But the effect is only significant in the human capital and the financial system. The infrastructure variable is less important in OECD country due to their high development level. However, for non-OECD country, the complementary effect between infrastructure and FDI reduces energy consumption significantly, it can get to the point that the process for infrastructure to attract FDI and also benefits from it only blow its way to the Non-OECD, developing countries, without andy special effects for the OECD countries which has already highly build up their infrastructure. Also, the financial system in Non-OECD countries is at the primary stage yet, which is not easy to contribute efficiency. To make a conclusion, the complementary effect between infrastructure and FDI in OECD country and which between finical system and FDI in non-OECD country cannot enhance energy efficiency as expected.
There has been rapid diffusion of digital innovation technology(DIT) such as 3 D CAD, CAE, simulation software which enable firms to see the future results of intended product designs through 3 D diagram and simulated results. This technology helps firms to reduce trial and error process by solving later stage problems in earlier stages. The DIT being the technology reflecting the real world, as a tool representing the simplified form of the real world, the degree of reflecting the real world(fidelity) is important in utilizing the DIT. This study is an exploratory research examining the process of reviewing the fidelity of the DITs and developing the complementary process necessary for utilizing the DIT with 'not good enough' fidelity. This study could draw out, from its case study, an exploratory hypothesis about the process of developing the complementary process. In the process, there is an analysis of the corresponding relationship between the actual data and the output data of the DIT, e.g. simulated result. Then the input data or output data are adjusted on the basis of the analysis of the corresponding relationship so that the discrepancy between the actual data and the expected interpretation of the output data, through the adjustment, of the DIT, can be reduced. This process is sometimes accompanied by the process of generating experimental data, which reflect the unique situation of the product development process of a company, to be put to the data base of DIT. The complementary process is the process requiring knowledge sharing and adjustment activities across different divisions. This study draw outs implications for effective management of the fidelity of DIT tools.
The increased needs for medical cost containment and the quality of life improvement for the low-income elderly with chronic disease require the complementary relationship between hospital care and community health services. This study investigated the current status of the linkage between Korean hospital care and community services using Seoul Welfare Panel Study(SWPS) data. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the effects of experiences of hospitalization and outpatient health services on use and needs of community health services. The analysis results indicated that the elderly with chronic disease who have not experienced outpatient health services were unlikely to receive health and social services in the community. Even those who have experienced hospitalization were not provided complementary health services in the community despite the increasing demand.
The way of approaching 'the relationship between love and justice' varies from person to person. We can argue for superiority of love or for superiority of justice by understanding the relationship between the two as conflicting. We can also argue that we need each other by understanding each other as a complementary relationship rather than an oppositional relationship. Hegel, however, sees love and justice as independent constitutive principles valid in different areas and does not regard the two as opposing nor complementary. This can only be understood when the structure of Hegel's theory of recognition is properly assumed. The relationship between love and justice will be considered mainly in Hegel's theory of recognition. Key philosophical points of Hegel's theory of recognition and consequences drawn on the relationship between love and justice on the basis of the theory will be examined. This can be summarized in the form of a thesis, roughly as follows. - Hegel presents love, justice and solidarity, that are various forms of recognition, to a family, a civil society and a state, that are three forms of social relations, as their constitutive principles. He does not grasp the relationship between love and justice as oppositional nor as complementary, that is different from many people's general perspective on the relationship of the two. - In Hegel's theory of recognition, love and justice differ in the areas in which they are valid. Love is a valid principle in the intimacy, and justice is a valid principle in non-intimacy. So, if justice and rights are asserted in intimacy, the area of intimacy is destroyed. Conversely, if love is asserted in non-intimacy, it cannot exercise real influence. - In the political community such as a state, where intimacy and non-intimacy overlap each other, the principle of solidarity is needed as a new constitutive principle, since a state does not stand on the principle of love as in a family nor on the principle of justice as in a civil society.
Sexual reproduction of paramecia have been accomplished through conjugation between individuals which have opposite mating type substances on their cilia when they were starved. Using selfing clone in which mating takes place, I examined whether a mating type change in indicidual cells required new protein and new mRNA synthesis or not and also shether there is a precursor relationship between both of the complementary mating type substances in their synthetic pathway. I found that 1. Mating type change needs new protein(s) and new mRNA synthesis. 2. Mating type substances are synthesized sequentially from mating type XIII to XIV 3. There might be a common precursor pool from which the mating type XIII substnace is synthesized and then complementary mating type XIV is fromed by addition of small group to the mating type XIII substance.

A joint venture approach to the marketing, organization, and execution of a project should be considered when the combined strengths of two or more entities result in a joint organization with unique credentials in a targeted business area. A joint venture is based on a complementary relationship: one party may lack one or more major elements needed for market penetration, such as technology, design-construct capabilities, geographic location, or financial strength; the other party should be able to compensate for these areas of weakness. The purpose of this study is that suggests the development direction of a joint venture, the proper organizational approach

Hydrological models simulate the land phase component of the water cycle and provide a mechanism for evaluating the effects of climatic variation and change on water resources. Evapotranspiration(ET) is a critical process within hydrological models. This study evaluates five different methods for estimating ET in the SLURP(Semi-distrubuted Land Use Runoff Process)model, in the Yongdam basin. The five ET methods were the FAO Penman-Monteith, Motorn CRAE(Complementary Relationship Area Evapotranspiration), the Spittlehouse-Black, the Granger, the Linarce model. We evaluated the five ET models, based on the ability of SLURP model to simulate daily streamflow. and How the five ET methods influence the sensitivity of simulated streamflow to changes in key model parameters and validation SLURP independently for each ET methods.
