Three major benefit factors were derived including improved trust, information acquiring and limitation of offline business activities. The three empirically derived critical synergy factors were then used to examine how they improve the firms performance in marketing mix and global competitiveness. The results of structural equation modeling method show that the anticipated benefit factors significantly influence the firms' performance in marketing mix. Subsequently, marketing mix significantly influence the firms' global competitiveness. The results provide useful guidelines for the shipping and port logistics firms to develop appropriate marketing mix strategies to improve their global competitiveness.

  • Logistics companies distinguish between medium-sized business and small business according to the size of enterprises. Of course, conglomerates are called global corporations. In this study, mid-sized companies over a certain size or more and those below are classified and decide the priorities among important factors to secure competitiveness in logistics companies are determined through AHP technique. Mid-sized companies are companies that can provide more than two logistics services. For example, they provide warehousing and transportation services in the same time. small companies are companies that can mostly provide one functional service. Warehousing, transportation, manpower, and information are listed as factors in this study. As a result of the study, medium-sized companies emphasized on the importance of transportation. When it comes to small companies, warehousing was emphasized as an important factor. Due to the simultaneous and contemporary service of warehousing and transportation in small-sized company, the reliable image of the company will be underestimated in case of delays in transportation. Competitiveness will also be weakened. Global corporations or conglomerates will start to consider relocating warehousing areas to others except for the central storage hub. They won't plan to invest directly, either. Therefore, it will be possible to secure competitiveness by providing the function of warehousing and to signed easily partnership.

  • The trade volume of Northeast Asian countries is increasing and with the advent of the 4th revolutionary era, minimizing the logistics costs of firm is becoming an important competitive factor. With respect to this, in 2006, the government introduced a certified Integrated logistics firm system to improve the competitiveness of local logistics firms and reduce the logistics costs of firms. They argued that the certified Integrated logistics firm system increased the reliability of logistics firms and increased the efficiency of the logistics industry. On the other side, they argue that the system puts a burden on firms and becomes a big business-oriented market consolidation. This study analyzed the efficiency of Warehousing firms using DEA model. The CCR, BBC efficiency and RTS (return to scale) of 15 Warehousing firms were evaluated. This study also suggested the Warehousing firms which can be benchmarked based on analyzed information.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze export competitiveness of Korean auto parts and Chinese auto parts in U.S. market by using Index of Export Bias and Market Comparative Advantage Index. For attaining the purpose of study, we classified the auto parts which exported to U.S. market and the imported products by using the six units classification of the Harmonized System(HS). Analyzing period was 1998-2005. The analysis of Korean results of MCA indicated that the Korean auto parts which gained export competitiveness in the U.S. market were HS Code No. 8708.94, 8708.99, 8708.92. The products which will have export competitiveness in the U.S. market would be HS Code No. 8708.93, 8708.39, 8708.60 respectively. On the other hand, the results indicated that the Chinese auto parts which gained export competitiveness in the U.S. market were HS Code No. 8708.70, 8708.31, 8708.91, 8708.60, 8708.39. • Quality has been a key issue to manufacturers. Many distinguished scholars have defined quality with profound insight. Korean firms struggle to make better products to fulfil requirements and satisfy customers. Korean industries have implemented quality management from Japan in early 70s. Statistical quality control, QCC (Quality Control Circle), and total quality management have also been introduced in succession. Chief executive officers, managers, and field employees have been aware of the importance of quality since then. This quality movement force workers to improve quality. They have to maintain the quality of products and compete with foreign products. Korean industries were able to compete with foreign industries in price. However, Korean firms now have to compete in quality as well as price. ISO (International Organization for Standardization) was established and industries around world have started to implement standardized systems depending on their need. ISO 9000 has continuously been revised and firms around world started to register a ISO 9000 certificate. Today's quality competitiveness gets more deeply involved. KSA (Korean Standard Association) have launched QCAS (Quality Competitiveness Assessment System) since 1997. Up until now recent status of QCAS have been reported but the characteristics of QCAS results have not been analyzed. In this article we examine the QCAS results of 41 firms in 2014. QCAS consisted of 13 subsections : strategy and management system, organization culture and development of human resource, information management, quality system, customer satisfaction, management achievement, TPM, logistics, product development and technology, PL, QCC, SQC/SPC, and reliability. We performed one way ANOVA to discover the difference among the levels of firm size, business type, and quality hall of fame using the total scores of 13 subsections resulted from QCAS. We also analyzed the scores of 13 individual subsections of QCAS to see if there is any differences based on firm size and business type. We interpret the results and implication of analysis and finally draw a conclusion.

  • Nowadays, the third-party logistics is getting special attention as one of the most useful ways to perform the logistics management effectively. In this current trend, however, there are many firms which carry out the logistics activities by themselves and strengthen the competitiveness. In respect of contingency theory, the firms' logistics management types should depend on their logistics environment and characteristics, and then the logistics performances vary with this suitability. In this context, this study analyzed empirically the difference of the logistics performances due to the fitness between their logistics characteristics and the management types. According to the finding, the study showed that the third-party logistics is more suitable when the importance and weight of logistics operation and the weight of their export are greater respectively, and the self-logistics is more suitable when the logistics cost is higher. Futhermore, the study indicated that the firms whose relationship between the characteristics and the management types is fit in their logistics are better than the others in the outcome of logistics cost reduction and the effectiveness of logistics operation.
