  • This paper proposes a method to trace and interpret a moving object based on the information which can be directly obtained from MPEG-2 compressed video stream without decoding process. In the proposed method, the motion flow is constructed from the motion vectors included in compressed video. We calculate the amount of pan, tilt, and zoom associated with camera operations using generalized Hough transform. The local object motion can be extracted from the motion flow after the compensation with the parameters related to the global camera motion. Initially, a moving object to be traced is designated by user via bounding box. After then automatic tracking Is performed based on the accumulated motion flows according to the area contributions. Also, in order to reduce the cumulative tracking error, the object area is reshaped in the first I-frame of a GOP by matching the DCT coefficients. The proposed method can improve the computation speed because the information can be directly obtained from the MPEG-2 compressed video, but the object boundary is limited by macro-blocks rather than pixels. Also, the proposed method is proper for approximate object tracking rather than accurate tracing of an object because of limited information available in the compressed video data.

  • The translation and the rotation of camera occur global motion which affects all over the frame in video sequence. With the video sequences containing global motion, it is practically impossible to extract exact video objects and to calculate genuine object motions. Therefore, high compression ratio cannot be achieved due to the large motion vectors. This problem can be solved when the global motion compensated frames are used. The existing camera motion estimation methods for global motion compensation have a large amount of computations in common. In this paper, we propose a simple global motion estimation algorithm that consists of linear equations without any repetition. The algorithm uses information .of symmetric points in the frame of the video sequence. The discriminant conditions to distinguish regions belonging to distant view from foreground in the frame are presented. Only for the distant view satisfying the discriminant conditions, the linear equations for the panning, tilting, and zooming parameters are applied. From the experimental results using the MPEG test sequences, we can confirm that the proposed algorithm estimates correct global motion parameters. Moreover the real-time capability of the proposed technique can be applicable to many MPEG-4 and MPEG-7 related areas.

  • In this paper, the boost Power Factor Correction(PFC) technique for Direct Torque Control(DTC) of brushless DC motor drive in the constant torque region is implemented on a TMS320F2812DSP. Unlike conventional six-step PWM current control, by properly selecting the inverter voltage space vectors of the two-phase conduction mode from a simple look-up table at a predefined sampling time, the desired quasi-square wave current is obtained, therefore a much faster torque response is achieved compared to conventional current control. Furthermore, to eliminate the low-frequency torque oscillations caused by the non-ideal trapezoidal shape of the actual back-EMF waveform of the BLDC motor, a pre-stored back-EMF versus position look-up table is designed. The duty cycle of the boost converter is determined by a control algorithm based on the input voltage, output voltage which is the dc-link of the BLDC motor drive, and inductor current using average current control method with input voltage feed-forward compensation during each sampling period of the drive system. With the emergence of high-speed digital signal processors(DSPs), both PFC and simple DTC algorithms can be executed during a single sampling period of the BLDC motor drive. In the proposed method, since no PWM algorithm is required for DTC or BLDC motor drive, only one PWM output for the boost converter with 80 kHz switching frequency is used in a TMS320F2812 DSP. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed DTC of BLDC motor drive scheme with PFC are verified through the experimental results. The test results verify that the proposed PFC for DTC of BLDC motor drive improves power factor considerably from 0.77 to as close as 0.9997 with and without load conditions.

  • In this paper, we proposed an efficient coding method for digital hologram (fringe pattern) acquired by a CCD camera or by computer generation using multi-view prediction technique and MPEG video compression standard technique. It proceeds each R, G, or B color component separately. The basic processing unit is a partial image segmented into the size of $N{\times}N$. Each partial image retains the information of the whole object. This method generates an assembled image for a row of the segmented and frequency-transformed partial images, which is the basis of the coding process. That is, a motion estimation and compensation technique of MPEG is applif:d to the reconstructed images from the assembled images with the disparities found during generation of assembled image and the original partial images. Therefore the compressed results are the disparity of eachpartial image to form the assembled image for the corresponding row, assembled image, and the motion vectors and the compensated image for each partial image. The experimental results with the implemented algorithm showed that the proposed method has NC (Normal Correlation) values about 4% higher than the previous method, by which ours has better compression efficiency. Consequently, the Proposed method is expected to be used effectively in the application areas to transmit the digital hologram data. can be identified in comparison with the previous researches and commercial IPs.

  • The aim of this study was to examine the metabolic adjustment of lactate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.27, LDH) isozymes to a change in dissolved oxygen (DO) in bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus). After bluegills were adapted to a constant environment in an aquarium, the DO was changed to investigate the activity of LDH isozyme and the relative ratio of subunits A, B, and C for each tissue. When the DO was decreased from 18 ppm to 6 ppm, LDH in skeletal muscle, heart, and brain tissues recovered to the level of control activity within 12, 12, and 6 hr, respectively. LDH activity changed in accordance with a change in DO. The compensation was performed rapidly and is thought to be an important function of LDH in enabling bluegills to adapt to their environment. In bluegill heart, eye, and brain tissues, the relative ratio of subunit A increased and showed a tendency to recover similarly to the subunit ratio of control groups up to 12 hr. It is thought that the anaerobic metabolism using subunit A was increased in the initial stage when DO was changed. In addition, the results revealed that subunit C was more similar to subunit A than subunit B. In bluegills, subunits A and C of LDH seem to be evolutionarily similar. LDH isozymes, mainly containing subunits A and C, are likely responsible for the function of pyruvate reductase, which plays a role in making the bluegill adapt to a hypoxic environment through anaerobic metabolism.
