  • Recently KISTI has developed the KnowlegeMatrix which is a stand-alone type bibliographic data analysis software. In this paper, we try to benchmark test on the performance level of KnowledgeMatrix with well-known S/Ws such as VantagePoint and BibTechMon. We compare distinctive functions and usability of each S/Ws on comparative categories including Data, Matrix, Analysis, Visualization and Preprocessing. Test results show that all S/Ws have differentiated specific feature, but there is some performance gaps. KnowledgeMatrix overally shows better performance than others.

  • Using an inverse of the geometric Jacobian matrix is one of the most popular ways to control robot manipulators, because the Jacobian matrix contains the relationship between joint space velocities and operational space velocities. However, the control algorithm based on Jacobian matrix has algorithmic singularities: The robot manipulator becomes unstable when the Jacobian matrix loses rank. To solve this problem, various methods such as damped and filtered inverse have been proposed, but comparative studies to evaluate the performance of these algorithms are insufficient. Thus, this paper deals with a comparative analysis of six representative singularity avoidance algorithms: Damped Pseudo Inverse, Error Damped Pseudo Inverse, Scaled Jacobian Transpose, Selectively Damped Inverse, Filtered Inverse, and Task Transition Method. Especially, these algorithms are verified through computer simulations with a virtual model of a humanoid robot, THORMANG, in order to evaluate tracking error, computational time, and multiple task performance. With the experimental results, this paper contains a deep discussion about the effectiveness and limitations of each algorithm.

  • In this paper, comparative analysis of offset voltage PWM method and $V_{max}-V_{mid}$ PWM method for three-phase matrix converter is addressed by using a simple analytical and graphical method. Offset voltage PWM method calculates PWM patterns in terms of offset voltage and variable slope of carrier, and it simplifies matrix converter modulation algorithm significantly. $V_{max}-V_{mid}$ PWM method generates patterns by using two phases and maintaining a remaining phase to base phase, and it is implemented in the industrial products. The most important performance criterion of modulation method is a magnitude of current ripples and it is analytically modelled. The graphical illustration of theses complex multivariable functions make per-carrier cycle and per fundamental cycle behavior of two PWM methods understood. Two modulation methods are analysed with the analytical formulas and graphics, and the analysis shows offset voltage PWM method is superior to $V_{max}-V_{mid}$ PWM method with respect to input current ripples and output voltage ripples.

  • To study the seismic damage of masonry structures and understand the characteristics of the multi-intensity region, according to the Dujiang weir urbanization of China Wenchuan earthquake, the deterioration of 3991 masonry structures was summarized and statistically analysed. First, the seismic damage of multistory masonry structures in this area was investigated. The primary seismic damage of components was as follows: Damage of walls, openings, joints of longitudinal and transverse walls, windows (lower) walls, and tie columns. Many masonry structures with seismic designs were basically intact. Second, according to the main factors of construction, seismic intensity code levels survey, and influence on the seismic capacity, a vulnerability matrix calculation model was proposed to establish a vulnerability prediction matrix, and a comparative analysis was made based on the empirical seismic damage investigation matrix. The vulnerability prediction matrix was established using the proposed vulnerability matrix calculation model. The fitting relationship between the vulnerability prediction matrix and the actual seismic damage investigation matrix was compared and analysed. The relationship curves of the mean damage index for macrointensity and ground motion parameters were drawn through calculation and analysis, respectively. The numerical analysis was performed based on actual ground motion observation records, and fitting models of PGA, PGV, and MSDI were proposed.

  • A novel method for recognition, characterization, and quantification of deterioration in bridge components and laboratory concrete samples is presented in this paper. The proposed scheme is based on grey level co-occurrence matrix texture analysis using Haar's discrete wavelet transform on concrete imagery. Each image is described by a subset of band-filtered images containing wavelet coefficients, and then reconstructed images are employed in characterizing the texture, using grey level co-occurrence matrices, of the different types and degrees of damage: map-cracking, spalling and steel corrosion. A comparative study was conducted to evaluate the efficiency of the supervised maximum likelihood and unsupervised K-means classification techniques, in order to classify and quantify the deterioration and its extent. Experimental results show both methods are relatively effective in characterizing and quantifying damage; however, the supervised technique produced more accurate results, with overall classification accuracies ranging from 76.8% to 79.1%.

  • In the era of super-aged societies, research and development (R&D) projects related to aging are very important agenda for establishing the direction of future R&D planning and technological competitiveness in the country. In order to respond promptly to this agenda, it is essential to establish a national-level convergence R&D policy. In this study, we utilized the global R&D funding project data from major nations (US, Europe, Japan), and then standardized them with the same fields. To analyze the current status of global R&D related to aging, we performed cluster analysis based on the co-occurrence matrix to explore convergence R&D areas in the US, Europe, and Japan related to aging. In addition, comparative analysis by country suggested that different points on the interdisciplinary area and the convergence of aging-related R&D by each country. These results provide fundamental understandings for the status of convergence in aging-related global R&D, the current technology trends, and establish the direction and strategy of R&D policy.

  • The covariance matrix is important in multivariate statistical analysis and a sample covariance matrix is used as an estimator of the covariance matrix. High dimensional data has a larger dimension than the sample size; therefore, the sample covariance matrix may not be suitable since it is known to perform poorly and event not invertible. A number of covariance matrix estimators have been recently proposed with three different approaches of shrinkage, thresholding, and modified Cholesky decomposition. We compare the performance of these newly proposed estimators in various situations.

  • Concrete is an important material in most of civil constructions. Many properties of concrete can be determined through analysis of concrete images. Image segmentation is the first step for the most of these analyses. An automated system for segmentation of concrete images into microstructures using texture analysis is proposed. The performance of five different classifiers has been evaluated and the results show that using an Artificial Neural Network classifier is the best choice for an automatic image segmentation of concrete.

  • Purpose: Since the report of artificial dermis manufacturing method using collagen by Yannas in 1980, collagen has been effectively used as dermal substitute with its merits such as, lower antigeneicity, controllable biodegradation rate, and minimal inflammatory cytotoxic properties in the dermal tissue engineering field. However, weak mechanical durability was the main drawback of collagen dermal substitute. To improve its stability, mechanical or chemical cross-linking was used. Despite of such process, its clinical use was restricted due to weak durability. To improve the durability of collagen matrix, we designed elastin-incorporated collagen matrix and compared its durability with conventional collagen matrix. Methods: 15mm diameter with 4mm thick collagen dermal matrix was made according to Yannas protocol by mixing 0.5% bovine collagen and chondroitin-6-sulfate followed by degassing, freeze drying, dehydrodermal cross-linking and chemical cross-linking procedure. In elastin incorporated collagen matrix, same procedure was performed by mixing elastin to previous collagen matrix in 4:1 ratio(collagen 80% elastin 20%). In comparison of the two dermal matrix in vitro tests, matrix contracture rate, strain, tensile strength, was measured and stiffness was calculated from comparative analysis. Results: In terms of matrix contracture, the elastin-incorperated added collagen dermis matrix showed 1.2 times more contraction compared to conventional collagen matrix. However, tensile strength showed 1.6 times and stiffness showed 1.6 times increase in elastin-incorporated matrix. Conclusion: Elastin incorperated collagen matrix manufactured by our team showed increased durability due to improvement in tensile strength and stiffness compared to previous collagen matrix($Integra^{(R)}$).
