  • This study aims at solving the problem in the application method of the comparative school record which is currently being discussed in depth among colleges. The application method of Kay O. Lee and Yeon Soo Cung(1997) which was appied in the 1999 Korean air force Academy Admission Process was found to be problematic in the following respects. First the setting of the standard which divides all the high schools in kora into five groups relative to their scholastic level is somewhat vague and subjective secondly the difference among those levels which resulted from the five grouping could greatly influence on the admission of the applicants and thirdly there is no standard in choosing those few promising individuals with high scholastic aptitude test results from the low level groups such as level four and five,. Therefore this study suggests and introduces a nationwide individual scholastic evaluation that would complement the limits and problems in the application method of the comparative school record.

  • The government has enforced the Green Building Certification System since 2002 to resolve environmental pollution from building construction projects. The Green Building Certification System offers additional financial incentive worth 3% of basic apartment unit construction cost for apartment housing projects that have passed preliminary certification and has been revitalized drastically since 2006. However, after the system was put in place, comparative analysis of each item in certification criteria has not been performed yet in reference to actual certification cases. This paper aims to provide a comparative analysis of such evaluation items by studying green building certification cases involving apartment housing. Conclusions drawn herein are expected to provide a framework of continued advancement for the certification system subsequently.

  • In this letter, we present an experimental comparative study of background subtraction algorithms for soccer video analysis. We investigated five different background subtraction algorithms under the same experimental setup. For the quantitative comparison, we employed the precision, recall, and F-measure. We believe that this comprehensive comparative study serves as a reference point and guide for developers and practitioners in choosing an appropriate background subtraction algorithm adopted for building intelligent soccer video analysis systems.

  • The purpose of this paper is to acquire the data related to insulation evaluation of hybrid vehicle traction motors. We carried out a comparative analysis on Insulation Resistance (IR) and Polarization Index (PI) of motor stators according to IEEE Std. 43 and IEC 60085-1 for insulation resistance test standard of rotating machinery. Maximum test voltage which is applied to between a phase and enclosure was set at 500 V. The IRs of the used motors were lower than those of the new ones. The PIs of the used motor were ranges from 0.74 to 1.1 and did not meet the recommendation basis 2 for insulation level H. From the experimental results, we could prepare parameters and basis for insulation evaluation of motor stators by comparative analysis of the IR and the PI.

  • Increasing the vertical dimesion affects not only functional problems but also the facial appearance. In particular, when restoring the reduced vertical dimension, it is important to evaluate facial appearance because the change affects the patient's aesthetics. Cephalometric radiographs can predict changes in the facial appearance through skeletal and vertical classifications using anatomical indicators, and the changes before and after treatment can be easily observed, which could serve as good data in evaluating treatment success. In this study, comparative evaluation was performed through cephalometric radiography, and the aesthetic and functional improvement was confirmed.

  • Objectives: This study was to compare two healthy cities, Liverpool in England and Wonju in Korea, which evaluated healthy city projects and to reorient evaluation strategy which fits into Korean Healthy cities. Methods: Comparatives analysis was used by reviewing documents, healthy city plan and evaluation report, of two cities. Results: Healthy city projects in two cities, fifteen programs were identical items among twenty-seven but there were differences in seven items for Liverpool and five items for Wonju. In Liverpool evaluation was done by a stakeholder group called Liverpool Local Involvement Network(LINK), while in Wonju by Yonsei Healthy City Research Center. The evaluation tool was two types; quantitative and qualitative analysis. Liverpool mostly used qualitative and added quantitative, vice versa in Wonju. Conclusions: Evaluation plan for Healthy city projects need to be made in the first phase of the projects, instead of in the end. Moreover, it is important to include stakeholder in conducting qualitative analysis for unquantifiable evidence of effectiveness, as well as quantitative analysis.

  • The cool surface ratio could be used as a proxy of the overall thermal environment contributing to heat islands in urban area. This research proposes a comparative evaluation framework in an objective and quantitative way for measuring cool surface ratios. Two university campuses (Kyungpook National University: KNU, South Korea and UC Davis: University of California, Davis, USA) were selected as case study sites in order to monitor cool surface condition. Google Earth combined with digital maps realistically identified the major type of cool surfaces such as cool roofs and water bodies in the study area. Cool surfaces were sparsely identified over the KNU campus while the UC Davis campus was heavily covered by cool surfaces such as cool roofs and water bodies, resulting in almost four times more first-grade cool surfaces, as compared to KNU. It is confirmed that standard remote sensing technology can offer the viable method of measuring and comparing the campus-wide cool surface condition. It is anticipated that this research output could be used as a valuable reference to initiate a nation-wide cool surface strategy since objective evidence has been provided based on area-wide measurement for the cool surface in the two university context.

  • Objective : We analyzed present condition of cooperative medical care using claims data of HEALTH INSURANCE REVIEW & ASSESSMENT SERVICE form patients treated by Korean-Western cooperative medicine. The study aimed to offer guidelines in selecting disease-related research in developing Korean-Western convergence technology. Method : Based on the patients using Korean medical service, we analyzed claims data of patients using Korean medical service and western medical service from January 2012 to December 2013. We were assigned to the server remotely. With the concept of 'episode of care', we rebuilt claims data and analyzed present condition of cooperative medical usage. Results : We analyzed present condition of cooperative medical care per episode of care. Among outpatients, Low back pain, lumbar region(M5456) was the highest number. Among inpatients, Sciatica due to intervertebral disc disorder(M511) was the highest number. Conclusion : Based on the claims data provided by HEALTH INSURANCE REVIEW & ASSESSMENT SERVICE, we have derived a list of multy frequently disease frequently treated by cooperative medical care by analyzing present condition.

  • Cool roofs are currently being emerged as one of important mechanism to save energy in relation to the building. Although green roof has already gained nation-wide recognition as a typical method of energy saving in the roof, this approach did not provide a realistic evidence that is economically feasible in terms of installation cost. This research is primarily intended to compare installation cost between the two techniques. This research proposes a comparative evaluation framework in a more objective and quantitative way for an installation cost between the two techniques. Kyungpook National University (KNU) was selected as a survey objective and an exhaustive and realistic comparison of installation cost between the two techniques was conducted, based on Life Cycle Cost analysis (initial investment cost, maintenance cost, dismantling and waste disposal expense). It was possible to identify that installation cost of cool roofs is 4.7 times cheaper than that of green roof. Also present value based on probabilistic approach was identified as 0.25 (4.95) higher than the installation cost on the assumption of constant price and interest. It is expected that much more installation cost for the large scale green roof will be required since small-size green roof selected as a survey objective in this study could be operated under less initial installation and maintenance condition.
