  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate recognition and activation plan of community-based rehabilitation(CBR) by occupational therapists(OTs) in community rehabilitation center(CRC) and hospitals/clinics(HC) in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam province. Method : Frequency analysis, independent t-test and chi-squared test were performed with the SPSS 12.0 statistics package program. Result : CRC-OTs and HC-OTs were not significantly different in recognition was not significantly different in both groups. The need for involvement of OTs in CBR was very high in both groups. The suggested field for OTs in CBR were counseling for rehabilitation & information-providing, home-visiting rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation, assistive device rental, education for disability prevention. It is required to establish CBR networking consisting of educational institutions for rehabilitation experts, local rehabilitation hospitals and clinics, and local government agencies as well as CRC and public health centers. Conclusion : CBR is recognized well by OTs in both CRC and HC and the involvement of OTs in CBR is highly needed by them. Activation plan for occupational therapy in CBR requires systemic and legal improvements.

  • Culture-independent approaches, based on 16S rDNA sequences, are extensively used in modern microbial ecology. Sequencing of the clone library generated from environmental DNA has advantages over fingerprint-based methods, such as denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis, as it provides precise identification and quantification of the phylotypes present in samples. However, to date, no method exists for comparing multiple bacterial community structures using clone library sequences. In this study, an automated method to achieve this has been developed, by applying pair wise alignment, hierarchical clustering and principle component analysis. The method has been demonstrated to be successful in comparing samples from various environments. The program, named CommCluster, was written in JAVA, and is now freely available, at http://chunlab.snu.ac.kr/commcluster/.

  • This study was conducted to estimate the prevalence of ametropias such as myopia and hyperopia from the community based population study. Another purpose of this study was to determine the association between ametropia and nutrient intake. The study subjects was 492 residents over 20 years of age residing in Kuri City. Ametropia was tested based on re(rector error using auto referactor. Nutrient intake was estimated from the dietary survey using 24 hour recall method. As a result of data analysis, the prevalence of myopia was 57% and that of hyperopia was 11%. Such a high rate of ametropia prevalence may suggest the increasing risk of eye health in a Korean society. Nutrient intake of myopia group was 5∼15% higher than that of normal group in most of the nutrients. Whereas intake of most nutrient except calcium, retinal, fiber for the hyperopia group was lower than that of normal group. The result may suggest that inbalance of nutrient intake has been related with ametropia.

  • I analyzed the results of the influences the community activities will have on students' participation and how much these influences will satisfy students in terms of learning in an e-learning-based environment. These results were based on former studies on this topic. I summarized the characteristics of community activities, the methods for motivating learning desire, and students' participation in the learning session. I found out that community activities can form intimacy, and that using cell phone text messages (SMS) and emails as learning methods can be a factor in students' participation.

  • This study discusses the community of participants in new media-based art of Taeyoon Choi, Wafaa Bilal and Mushon Zer-Aviv in relation to current discourses on social functions of art by Nicolas Bourriaud and Jacques Ranciere. Focusing on these artists' participatory projects which aim to provide alternative perspectives on wars between countries, to raise awareness about expanding surveillance systems in city spaces, or to create new public spaces on the web, this paper argues that their works hybridize entertainment culture and political activism to suggest a new model for political art.

  • Recently, universities have difficulties in operating the normal curriculum because fresher's basic academic ability is declined. It causes campus misfits so managing students is also not an easy matter. The education system that focuses only on college entrance exams is one of the reasons why this phenomenon occurred. Activity with self-directed Learning Community to know learning level themselves and execute systematic studying habit is essential for improving this problem. This activity can help students understanding and having interest in class and be motivated to study. But it had burdened tutors with submitting activity report in written form. In this paper, we suggest the Mobile Based Activity Report Submission System which can be the solution of the problem that the Self-directed Learning Community System has. This system reduces the emotional burden to write the reports and manages them efficiently.

  • This study compares brand equity of the fast food industry between Korea and the Philippines. This comparison is conducted by measuring a price premium that the college students in both countries would pay for hamburgers. Three popular fast food chains in each country, Lotteria, McDonalds', and Burger King in Korea and Jollibee, McDonalds', and Burger King in the Philippines, were chosen for the study. Utilizing a brand-based comparative approach, the findings of the study indicated that Burger King showed the highest brand equity for the premium brand image in both countries, whereas both local brands had a lower brand equity compared to international brands. The results of the study provide useful information for international and local brand managers that wish to establish strategies for a brand image, as well as to manage brand equity effectively.
