  • The rapid development of information technology makes people's lifestyles constantly changing, bringing great changes to the library building. As a product of the development of public libraries, community libraries have an important impact on community cohesion and revitalization through providing targeted learning and leisure services to residents. Under the trend of social and community development, the community library's user-centered space must adapt to the diverse needs of community users and make the self-improvement. First of all, this study summarizes the concept of community and community libraries through literature review, and then make a theoretical investigation on the composition of user-centered space. Finally this study bases on the cases of community library buildings in the United States and Britain, and initially explores the composition of user-centered space in these libraries, and then analyzes and summarizes the architectural characteristics of it. Exploring how community can be activated and cohesive through community libraries user-centered space. Hope that this study can provide some reference to the contemporary community library design.

  • Forest vegetation in Mt. Jangan County Park, Jeonlabuk-Do, Korea, was investigated by classification and ordination methods. By the cluster analysis (classification) method, nine groups were recognized as follows : Quercus serrata community, Quercus serrata- Carpinus laxiflora community, Cornus controversa community, Fraxinus mandshurica community, Carpinus laxiflora community, Quereus variabilis community, Quercus mongolica - Sasa borealis community. Quercus mongolica - Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa community and Quercus mongolica - Rhododendron schlippenbachii community. These groups showed differences in species composition and environmental characteristics, but Quercus mongolica - Sasa borealis community, Quercus mongolica - Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa community and Quercus mongolica - Rhododendron schlippenbachii community among them showed very similar floristic composition to each other. The interrelationship between the floristic composition of the vegetation and environmental factors was analysed by principal component analysis (PCA). Quercus mongolica community was distributed at a high altitude (900~1200 m above sea level). Fraxinus mandshurica community and Cornus controversa community were differentiated from the other communities with high contents of soil moisture and pH. On the other hand, Carpinus laxiflora community and Quercus variabilis community were distributed at places with adequate levels of soil moisture, soil organic matter. and at low altitude. In this study, the altitude and soil moisture were the main factors determining the forest vegetation. They were strongly correlated with the dominant compositional gradient at the localities examined.

  • Dry matter production of herb community in the Central Korea was studied. Generally, the maximum standing crop in the Central Korea can be observed during the period from July through September with somewhat differences between the herb communities of different floristic composition. Differences in standing crop between the communities of similar floristic composition in different regiions were insignificant while those between different floristitc community were relatively great, ranging from 308.7 d.w.g/$m^2$ in Phragmites prosturatus community. It seems that regional difference in standing crop of herb community of the same floristic composition in the Central Korea is greatly influenced by grazing effect rather than any other conditions. The maximum leaf area index (LAI) of different herb communities was observed during the period from July through September, ranging from 3.0 in Plantago asiatica community to 16.0 in Phragnites longivalvis community.

  • In Current Standard Tables of Food Composition in Japan (Fifth Revised Edition), standard composition values of food used regularly in Japan are shown by values per 100g of their edible portion, with one value of standard composition per one foodstuff as a rule. In the Explanation (Chapter 1) and Reference Data (Chapter 4) of the original table, the most important matters are mentioned, including the table of the weight change rate by cooking, the table of the outline of the cookery, and the formula of the actual amount of intake nutrition. These are helpful for an understanding of the actual amount of intake nutrition. The formula for the amount of purchase in consideration of the amount of refuse is also shown. Information concerning foodstuffs and composition items in the table as well as important points in the reference column are concurrently written in English. As related studies, the composition tables by values per 100m1 or considered loss, the table or the formula for estimation of the amount of sucrose, and the list of the composition extant rate after cooking, among others, are also provided. Users should understand the original composition table, and then suggest how to utilize it. (J Community Nutrition 5(2) : 65∼71, 2003)

  • Objective: Manipulating the fermentation to improve the performance of the ruminant has attracted the attention of both farmers and animal scientists. Propionate salt supplementation in the diet could disturb the concentration of propionate and total volatile fatty acids in the rumen. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of calcium propionate supplementation on the ruminal bacterial community composition in finishing bulls. Methods: Eight finishing bulls were randomly assigned to control group (CONT) and calcium propionate supplementation (PROP) feeding group, with four head per group. The control group was fed normal the total mixed ration (TMR) finishing diet, and PROP group was fed TMR supplemented with 200 g/d calcium propionate. At the end of the 51-day feeding trial, all bulls were slaughtered and rumen fluid was collected from each of the animals. Results: Propionate supplementation had no influence the rumen fermentation parameters (p>0.05). Ruminal bacterial community composition was analyzed by sequencing of hypervariable V3 regions of the 16S rRNA gene. The most abundant phyla were the Firmicutes (60.68%) and Bacteroidetes (23.67%), followed by Tenericutes (4.95%) and TM7 (3.39%). The predominant genera included Succiniclasticum (9.43%), Butyrivibrio (3.74%), Ruminococcus (3.46%) and Prevotella (2.86%). Bacterial community composition in the two groups were highly similar, except the abundance of Tenericutes declined along with the calcium propionate supplementation (p = 0.0078). Conclusion: These data suggest that the ruminal bacterial community composition is nearly unchanged by propionate supplementation in finishing bulls.

  • The deciduous shrubs, Lindera sericea belonging to family Lauracea are distributed in Mt. Chogye and Mudeung locally. To estimate the community structure of this shrub, the relationship between the floristic composition and environmental factors of 20 sites in Mt. Chogye were investigated. L. sericea community distributed at the hum양 zone of altitude 305-480 m in ES and NE slope of $15~30^{\circ}$. The floristic composition of this communities consisted of 17-32 species varied with sites. Sasa borealis, Sapium japonicum, and Quercus serrata were the constant species over 90%. The forest vegetation was classified as Sasa borealis-Lindera sericea community, and the Sasa borealis-Meliosma oldhamii, and Sasa borealis-Callicarpa japonica were as subunit community. Acidity, organic matter content, inorganic phophate, potassium, calcium, magnesium, cation exchange capacity and conductivity were determined as environmental factors. Diameter of stem at ground surface and stem, distribution area and growth property of this plant were investigated, and this plant was presumed to be a relic endemic species.
