Visible Light Communication Employing Optical Beamforming: A Review

  • Visible light communication (VLC) is considered a strong future candidate for indoor wireless communication. However, its performance seems to be relatively unsatisfactory when compared to wireless local area network (WLAN) communication using millimeter waves. To improve the performance of VLC, numerous technologies have been proposed so far, in both electrical and optical domains. Among the proposals, optical beamforming (OB) is an optical-domain technology that can concentrate light in a specific direction or on a target spot. It can significantly improve VLC performance and can be widely used, because it does not depend on electrical modulation schemes. Therefore, this review discusses the concept, principle, and types of OB, the structure of a VLC system using OB, performance results of OB, and the combination of OB with electrical signal modulation in VLC. OB is expected to be one of the key techniques in future VLC implementations, similar to radio-frequency beamforming in millimeter-wave communication.

  • In this study, through an AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) analysis, the internal construction project was designed to analyze the factors affecting the performance of the project and provide suggestions on the quality of communication. To carry out this study, a selection factor was selected by referring to AHP theory and existing prior research. AHP technique was used to collect weights after analysis, examine and analyze gaps. In the interior construction project, the most important factor among the factors influencing the quality of communication to the project performance was communication interaction. Among the sub-factors, accuracy of exchange of information and timeliness of communication were shown in the order of importance. Looking at the results of comprehensive analysis of the first and second layers, the accuracy of information exchange among the elements of communication quality was found to be the number 1 in weight. The timeliness of communication, which is ranked second, and communication that takes place at an appropriate time can lead to efficiency in shortening the project execution period by eliminating unnecessary work. And, Among the factors that affect communication quality, it was analyzed that communication method is not an important factor when compared to other factors. This study shows that quality of communication influences the performance of interior construction projects and provides suggestions for improving communication quality. And it has been confirmed that managing communication quality can act as an important issue that can improve business performance in project execution and production of results.

소비자의 온라인 패션몰 아바타에 대한 커뮤니케이션 신뢰가 아바타에 대한 성과기대 및 재사용의도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Consumers' Trust in Communication with Online Fashion Mall Avatars on Performance Expectancy and Re-use Intentions)

  • This study investigates the effect of consumers' trust in communication with online fashion mall avatars on performance expectancy and re-use intention. For the empirical study, 207 adults were surveyed using a 5-point Likert scale, and the results were analyzed with SPSS 21.0. The analysis reveals the following results. First, the factor analysis of trust in communication with the avatar, performance expectancy, and re-use intention revealed cognitive and affective trust as subfactors of the trust in communication with the avatar, while purchase choice expectations and performance expectancy were identified as subfactors of performance expectancy for the avatar. A total of five factors, including re-use intention, were recognized. Second, the trust in communication with online fashion mall avatars significantly positively affected performance expectancy for the avatar. Among the subfactors, cognitive trust was determined to have a greater influence on purchase choice expectations than affective trust. Third, the performance expectancy for the online fashion mall avatar significantly positively affected re-use intention. Notably, the subfactor performance expectancy had a greater influence than purchase choice expectations. Finally, trust in communication with online fashion mall avatars significantly positively affected re-use intention. Accordingly, the sub-factor cognitive trust had a greater influence on re-use intention than affective trust. The results of this study are academically significant in that they empirically test the influence relationship between trust in communication, performance expectancy, and re-use intention, considering the personal characteristics of online fashion mall avatars on consumers using the Meta-UTAUT model in the fashion field.

Performance Analysis of FSO Communication Systems with Photodetector Multiplexing

  • In this paper, we carry out a performance analysis of a two-user free-space optical (FSO) communication system with photodetector multiplexing, in which the two users are defined as the primary user (PU) and secondary user (SU). Unlike common single-user FSO systems, our photodetector multiplexing FSO system deploys a shared detector at the receiver and enables PU and SU to send their own data synchronously. We conduct the performance analysis of this FSO system for two cases: (1) in the absence of background radiation, and (2) in the presence of background radiation. Decision strategies for PU and SU are presented according to the two scenarios above. Exact and approximate conditional symbol-error probability (SEP) expressions for both PU and SU are derived, in an ideal channel with no fading. Average SEP expressions are also presented in the no-background-radiation scenario. Additionally, in some particular cases where the power ratio tends to 0.5 or 1, approximate SEP expressions are also obtained. Finally, numerical simulations are presented under different conditions, to support the performance analysis.

Performance Analysis of Distribution-based and Replication-based Model for High Performance Grid Information Service

  • As the entities participating Grid become larger, performance requirement for the LDAP-based GIS(Grid Information Service) goes beyond that provided by a stand-alone single LDAP server. This entails the exploration of distributed LDAP systems. This paper presents the performance evaluation respectively for a distribution-based and a replication-based LDAP model. The analysis is based on an analytic performance model for each distributed system which is obtained by applying the M/M/1 queuing model. The performance evaluation made to these analytic models reveals that the distribution-based and the replication-based model show a significant tradeoff in their performance with respect to the system size as well as the amount of system load.

다양한 형태의 통신망 성능 분석을 위한 시뮬레이션 도구의 개발 (Development of a simulator for the performance evaluation of various types of communication networks)

  • Due to the drastic technological innovation and introduction of various kinds, of new communication services, the structure and operation of communication networks are becoming complicated and diversified more and more. Accordingly, the necessity of flexible simulation tools which can be utilized for various performance evaluation jobs in various types of communication networks is growing. In this article, various existing simulation tools are briefly surveyed and the requirements for the simulator dedicated for the performance evaluation of communication networks are discussed. Then, a strategy to develop a simulator dedicated for the performance evaluation of communication networks is proposed. Our approach is based on the prototyping strategy, in which a relatively simple prototype structure is developed first and more functions are added whenever necessary. By following this strategy, a simulator can be developed and evolved in a timely manner at a relatively small cost.

간호사가 인식하는 내부마케팅과 조직의사소통이 간호조직성과에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Hospital Internal Marketing and Organizational Communication Perceived by Nurses on Organizational Performance)

  • 본 연구는 일개 대학병원에 근무하는 간호사를 대상으로 내부마케팅, 조직의사소통 및 조직성과 정도를 확인하고 조직성과에 미치는 영향요인을 파악하고자 시도되었다. 구조화된 설문지를 이용하여 239명의 간호사로부터 일반적 특성, 내부마케팅, 조직의사소통 및 조직성과를 파악하였다. 자료분석은 IBM SPSS 21.0프로그램을 이용하여 기술통계, Indepented t-test, one-way ANOVA, 상관관계, 다중회귀분석을 하였다. 본 연구결과 내부마케팅 3.13±0.58점, 조직의사소통 3.23±0.48점, 조직성과 3.34±0.51점이었다. 조직성과는 내부마케팅, 조직의사소통과 양의 상관관계가 있었으며 내부마케팅과 조직의사소통이 조직성과를 61.0% 설명하였다. 따라서 간호사의 조직성과를 높이기 위해서 간호사 개인적 측면에서 동기부여할 수 있는 내부마케팅 전략이 필요하며 조직적 측면에서 다양한 의사소통 채널을 구축하는 융합적인 전략이 필요하다.

공조직에서의 BSC의 효과적인 운영 (An effective operation of Balanced Scorecard(BSC) in Public Organizations)

  • This study investigates the relationships between three BSC communication attributes(support of organizational culture, message valid, and knowledge sharing) and organizational learning and how that translates into relationship organizational performance in public organization. In this paper, first, past studies on BSC communication and organizational learning that identify the attributes of effective communication and organizational learning in organizational performance are reviewed. Second, a research model, key variables, and three hypotheses tested by PLS(partial least squares) are presented. The data was collected from BSC champions and managers of 53 public organizations in Korea. The results indicate, first, BSC communication (except for support of organizational culture) have not significant related to organizational performance. Therefore, H1 was not supported. Second, the structural path coefficient between support of organizational culture and message valid and organizational learning are statistically significant and in the hypothesized direction. But the knowledge sharing has not significant relationship with organizational learning. Therefore, H2 was partially supported. Third, organizational learning was significantly positively related to organizational performance. H3 was supported. Finally, organizational learning play a significantly positive role in mediating the relationship between BSC communication and organizational performance. The theoretical contributions, limitations, as well as future research directions are discussed at the end of the paper.

부분차등변조 방식을 이용한 협력통신 전송기법 (Cooperative Communication Transmission Scheme using Partially Differential Modulation)

  • 중계기를 이용해서 신호를 전송하는 협력통신은 여러 개의 안테나를 사용해야하는 물리적인 시스템의 제약없이 가상 다중입출력 이득을 제공함으로서 전체적인 통신시스템의 성능을 향상시킬 수 있다. 두 개의 대표적인 중계 프로토콜로는 증폭 후 전송방식과 복조 후 전송방식이 있는데, 본 논문에서는 복조 후 전송 중계 프로토콜을 적용하여 부분적으로 차등변조 방식을 사용하는 협력통신기법의 성능에 대해 분석한다. 성능분석은 심볼오류율을 이용하여 이루어지며 중계기의 위치가 통신성은에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 또한 제안된 부분차등변조 방식과 기존의 차등변조 방식의 성능을 비교한다.

  • This paper presents a Train Communication Network simulator (TCNS) that can be used to evaluate the performance of TCN. TCN was accepted as the standard of the protocol for the communication network in trains. We carry out some simulation tests using the TCNS to show practical uses of the simulator. TCN was accepted as the standard of the protocol for the communication network in trains. TCN of fieldbus was adopted as international standardization IEC 61375 in 1999. It has been operating on G7 train in korea. This paper developed TCNS(Train Communication Network simulator) as a simulator for performance evaluation. We can verify TCNS for preventing many kinds of occurring problems between the devices in data-communication. This study was developed TCNS as a simulator for the performance evaluation. We analyzed correlation between token, transmission data per paket and transmission speed of bus, through the TCNS, also analyzed result according to error rate of TCN. We carry out some simulation tests using the TCNS to show practical uses of the simulator. Results of some simulation tests are also reported.
