  • Headache, like low back pain, is one of the most common of pain conditions. Many data suggest that nerve block can be one of effective treatments in managing headache except pure psychologic or surgical origin, because mechanism of headaches have neurologic, vascular or local tissue pathology. We experienced two types of headache; episodic tension-type headache, and benign exertional headache; successful treatment consist of nerve block and modulation of exercise, respectively.

  • In order to elucidate the intergeneric relationshiops within Korean Oleaceae including the endemic Abeliophyllum distichum, 19 species and 9 varieties of 9 genera were investigated. A cladistic analysis based on 18 characters revealed close relationships among (1) Osmanthus, Chiononthus, Fraxinus, (2) Abeliophyllum, fontanesia, Forsythia, and (3) Ligustrum, Syringa, and well accorded with the pollen morphological result. Jasminum was connected to the branch of Ligustrum possibly owing to a sampling error. A hypothesis on the origin of Abeliophyllum was drawn that it originated from Fontanesi or less probably from the common ancestor of Fontanesia and Forsythia.

  • The verandah was a common feature of Chinese multi-storeyed houses in Southeast Asia and China. This paper argues that while an earlier version of a narrow walkway might have had its origin in Singapore, the building of an extension on the upper floors encroaching the airspace over the road skirting the building was an arrangement allowed by the colonial Hong Kong government in compensation to landlords for space devoted to ventilation. As the introduction of reinforced concrete allowed buildings to become taller, the more attractive it was to developers to incorporate the verandah design.

  • Extraskeletal osteochondroma is an uncommon benign tumor that arises in soft tissues lacking continuity with an adjacent bone and joint. Due to similar histopathological findings, extraskeletal osteochondroma is often misdiagnosed for a conventional osteochondroma, the most common benign tumor that arises from the epiphyseal plates of long bones. The pathogenesis of extraskeletal osteochondroma is unclear, but metaplasia of synovial mesenchymal tissue is the best supported etiology. The most common sites of extraskeletal osteochondroma are the hands and feet, and it is rarely found in the maxillofacial area. We present a case of a two-year-old boy with a giant extraskeletal osteochondroma that developed in the masticatory space of the mandible along with a review of the relevant literature.

  • Cervical cancer is the most common gynecologic malignancy worldwide and development of new therapeutic strategies and anticancer agents is an urgent priority. Plants have remained an important source in the search for novel cytotoxic compounds and several polyphenolic flavonoids possess antitumor properties. In this review article, data about potential anticarcinogenic activity of common natural flavonoids on various human cervical cancer cell lines are compiled and analyzed showing perspectives for the use of these secondary metabolites in the treatment of cervical carcinoma as well as in the development of novel chemotherapeutic drugs. Such anticancer effects of flavonoids seem to differentially depend on the cellular type and origin of cervical carcinoma creating possibilities for specific targeting in the future. Besides the cytotoxic activity per se, several flavonoids can also contribute to the increase in efficacy of conventional therapies rendering tumor cells more sensitive to standard chemotherapeutics and irradiation. Although the current knowledge is still rather scarce and further studies are certainly needed, it is clear that natural flavonoids may have a great potential to benefit cervical cancer patients.

  • Author studied 30 cases of remained heart murmur patients after VSD repair. The age ranged from 7months to 27 years, and sex ratio was 29: 1 in male and female. Perimembranous trabecular type of VSD was the most common causes of remained murmur after operation 11 cases, and the next was subpulmonic type 9 cases. The VSD size between 1.1 and 2.0cm in diameter was the most common in 15 cases. The operative method frequently used was patch closure in 21 cases, and commonly used surgical approaching way was through right atrium. Mechanisms of origin of postoperative remained murmur was from TR 9 cases, PI 6 cases, PS 5 cases, remnant shunts 5 cases, pulmonary artery dilatation 2 cases, MR 2 cases, and subaortic stenosis 1 cases.

  • Two homotetrameric lactate dehydrogenase isozymes from Fluta alba and one from Ophicephalus argus were purified by combination of gel filtration and DEAE-cellulose chromatogrphy. The final preparations were isozymically pure and used to elicit antibodies in rabbits. The immunochemical reactivities demonstrated that the amino acids of active site is not to be included in the antigenic determinants, that antibodies or unknown component of immunized rabbit serum might be responsible for the electrophoretic abnormality and that two subunits share common antigenic determinants, reflecting that these polypeptides have a common evolutionary origin.

  • The purpose of this study is to review histoiral development of Gye from the home welfare point of view. The origin of gye can be found ancient primative society but it was widely organized middle of{{{{ {Y }_{1 } }} }} D ynasty of Gye was originally wellfare o r ganization but changed to financial organization later. Gye can be classified as an organization 1) to realize common purpose as a whole community & 2) to realize common purpose as a household or individual Home wellfare function of Gye are studied on 8 areas,. In order to revitalize original Gye spirit in he modern society following was suggested: 1) For the rural village to be unified under Durae's spirit and organize Farming Company; 2) For the urban community to link needy people's Gye and above middle class people's Gye and utilize as civil wellfare organization ; 3) For financial organizaton to develop a pool financial product.

  • Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue(MALT) lymphoma is the most common extranodal B cell lymphoma among peripheral one. Although palatine tonsil is common origin among Waldeyer's ring, there is no presented case in Korea. This lymphoma is known to be less invasive than other subtype of low grade B cell Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Because MALT lymphoma has a tendency of localizing one area for a long time, there are many cases treated by local treatment like radiotherapy, or local excision and radiotherapy. We report a case of MALT lymphoma originated from left tonsil.

  • Aorto-ventricular tunnel is a rare congenital malformation, and aorto-right ventricular tunnel (ARVT) is an even less common entity. Here, we report the case of a 3-month-old female who underwent successful surgical closure of ARVT. The origin of the right coronary artery was proximal to the ostium of the tunnel.
