Development of Internet Expert System Tool using ASP (ASP를 이용한 인터넷 전문가 시스템 도구 개발)

  • Lots of the agricultural information come from human experiences and are in non-numerical forms. Therefore, it is difficult to process to be processed in a conventional data processing way. An internet expert system for agricultural application using the ASP(active server page) was developed to solve this problem and consisted of databases, an inference engine, and an user interface. The databases were composed of rule base, question base and link data. The inference engine was developed with the ASP for connection with web between databases. The used interface was developed with the CGI(common gateway interface), so that question could be answered on a web browser, and the session technique was used to provide proper result to each of multi-users. A prototype internet expert system was developed for diagnosis of diseases and nutritional disorders of paddy rice. The expert system was interactively worked through WWW(world wide web) at remote sites by multi-users, even at the same time. The rule base could be easily updated and modified from a web server computer by a knowledge engineer.

  • The proposed algorithm used the Hybrid teaming rule in the input and hidden layer, and Back-Propagation teaming rule in the hidden and output layer. From the results of simulation of tracking control with one link manipulator as a plant, we verify the usefulness of the proposed control method to compare with common direct adaptive neural network control method; proposed hybrid teaming rule showed faster loaming time faster settling time than the direct adaptive neural network using Back-propagation algorithm. Usefulness of the proposed control method is that it is faster the learning time and settling time than common direct adaptive neural network control method.

  • The evidence for the existence of a common pathway for health issues in men is presented in this review. Several epidemiological studies have shown that conditions like cardiovascular diseases (CVD), metabolic syndrome, diabetes, lower urinary tract symptom (LUTS), erectile dysfunction (ED), prostate cancer, hypogonadism, depression and suicide can be associated as risk factors for each other. Thus, the risk of CVD is significantly increased in men with metabolic syndrome, ED, hypogonadism, prostate cancer and/or LUTS. In addition, the above mentioned conditions are more prevalent in atherosclerotic patients. In addition, growing evidence indicates that low androgen levels can cause metabolic syndrome. In addition, obesity, dyslipidaemia and diabetes can further reduce androgen levels potentiating their adverse effect. Low testosterone levels are also associated with a higher incidence of aggressive prostate cancer on biopsy and on definitive pathology, and lower probability of abiraterone response in the metastatic setting. Several recent studies point towards diffuse endothelial dysfunction and dysregulated pro-inflammatory state as the biological link between all these disorders. Our current hypothesis is that oxidative stress caused by these dysfunctions explains the pathogenesis of each of these conditions.

  • It is necessary to construct an effective regional information system in facing the incoming information intensive society. Many local government in Korea began to recognize a need for constructing a GIS(Geographic Information System) and they are planning to construct GIS´s to improve their administrative efficiency. However, ti requires high-priced hardware, software, and an experienced operator to sue a GIS effectively. The purpose of this study is to develop the GIS program which can be sued with ease by common users. By developing a GIS functioned program using a coordinate recognition module by application of geo-spatial data, and a digital map which is already made, this program can be used efficiently only by only inputting attributes without high-priced hardware and software, and can be utilized easily to every purposes of work with geo-spatial data and attributes. MapObjects, mapping and GIS component, was employed to use geo-spatial data, and Access 97 from Microsoft to manage and attributes database. Visual Basic, objected-oriented language, was used to develop an application program. Results of this study were applied to constructing the Information system of Kanwon National University. This program could be used for various purposed by common users without additional hardware and software.

  • The main object of this paper is concentrated on distance control of two robot arms of a humanoid using Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) for handling a common object. Serial Link Robot arms are widely used in most significantly in Humanoids serving for older people and also in various industrial applications. A method is proposed here that separates the interconnections between two robot arms so that the resulting model of two arms is decomposed into fuzzy logic based controller. The distance between two end effectors is always kept equal to that of the diameter of an object to be handled, so that the object would not fall down. Mathematical model of this system was obtained to simulate the behavior of serial robotic arms in close loop control before using fuzzy logic controller. Lagrangian equation of motion has been used to obtain the appropriate mathematical model of Robotic arms. The results are shown to provide some improvement over those obtained by more conventional means.

  • Network management is composed of five major functional areas, fault, configuration, account, performance and security management in the ITU standards. Configuration management identifies, exercises control over, collects data from network element node system and provides data to the management systems. The proposed architecture is designed based on the Distributed Processing Environment of CORBA(Common Object Request Broker Architecture) Spec v2.3. In this paper, configuration management system has been designed and implemented with layered managed object. It provides that integrated management of various data link layer technology. We suggest MIB(Management Information Base)/MIT(Management Information Tree) to support integrated management and distributed environment.

Novel Mutations of the PARP-1 Gene Associated with Colorectal Cancer in the Saudi Population

  • Background: colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common type of cancers and the fourth leading cause of death worldwide. In Saudi Arabia, CRC accounts for 8.5% of all tumors; it ranks first among all cancers in males and third among females. The aim of this study was to link between different PARP-1 mutations and risk of CRC in Saudi population and to determine common variants of PARP-1 in Saudi CRC patients and normal individuals. Materials and Methods: DNA samples were isolated from fifty CRC patients and from a comparable number of control subjects then sequenced to detect different variations present in exons 3, 17, and 21 of the PARP-1 gene. Results and Conclusions: When comparing the genotype and allele frequencies of all detected SNPs in CRC patients with those in controls, we found none were significantly different for all variants even the most common SNP in PARP-1 gene (Val762Ala). However, two novel alterations in exon 21 were found to be associated with increased risk of CRC. The variants identified as (1) Lys933Asn [p-value 0.0318] and (2) Lys945Asn [p-value 0.0257]. Our results suggest that PARP-1 Lys933Asn and Lys945Asn alterations could be associated with increased risk of CRC in the Saudi population.

Clinical Analysis for the Correlation of Intra-abdominal Organ Injury in the Patients with Rib Fracture

  • Background: Although it is rare for the fracture itself to become a life threatening injury in patients suffering from rib fracture, the lives of these patients are occasionally threatened by other associated injuries. Especially, early discovery of patients with rib fracture and intra-abdominal organ injury is extremely important to the prognosis. This study analyzed the link between rib fracture and intra-abdominal injury to achieve improved treatment. Materials and Methods: Among trauma patients that had visited the hospital emergency room from January 2007 to December 2009, a retrospective study was conducted on 453 patients suffering from rib fracture due to blunt trauma. Rib fracture was classified according to location (left, right, and bilateral), and according to level (upper rib fracture [1-2nd rib], middle rib fracture [3-8th rib], and lower rib fracture [9-12th rib]). The researched data was statistically compared and analyzed to investigate the correlation between the location, level, and number of rib fracture and intra-abdominal organ injury. Results: Motor vehicle injury was found to be the most common mechanism of injury with 208 cases (46%). Associated injuries accompanied with rib fracture were generated in 276 cases (61%). Intra-abdominal organ injury was discovered in 97 cases (21%). Liver injury was the most common intra-abdominal injury associated with rib fracture with 39 cases (40%), followed by spleen injury, with 23 cases (23%). Intra-abdominal injury according to level of rib fracture was presented as upper rib fracture in 11 cases (11%), middle rib fracture in 31 cases (32%), and lower rib fracture in 55 cases (57%), thus verifying that intra-abdominal injuries were commonly accompanied in lower rib fractures (p=0.03). In particular, significant increase of intra-abdominal injury was presented in fractures below the 8th rib (p=0.03). The number of intra-abdominal injuries requiring emergency operations was significantly higher in patients with more than 6 rib fractures (p=0.04). Conclusion: Intra-abdominal organ injury is more common in patients with lower rib fracture, especially fractures below the 8th rib. Intra-abdominal organ injuries generated in multiple rib fracture patients with more than 6 fractures significantly higher severity. These cases must be thoroughly inspected and carefully observed as there is possibility of emergency operation.

  • The demands of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are growing very rapidly with the era of the 4th industrial revolution. As the technology of the UAV improved with the development of artificial intelligence and semiconductor technology, it began to be used in various civilian fields such as hobbies, bridge inspections, etc from being used for special purposes such as military use. MAVLink (Macro Air Vehicle Link), which started as an open source project, is the most widely used communication protocol between UAV and ground control station. However, MAVLink does not include any security features such as encryption/decryption mechanism, so it is vulnerable to various security threats. Therefore, in this study, the block cipher is implemented in UAV to ensure confidentiality, and the results of the encryption and decryption performance evaluation in the UAV according to various implementation methods are analyzed. In addition, we proposed the security requirements in accordance with Common Criteria, which is an international recognized ISO standard.

Association Between Persistent Treatment of Alzheimer's Dementia and Osteoporosis Using a Common Data Model

  • Background and Purpose: As it becomes an aging society, interest in senile diseases is increasing. Alzheimer's dementia (AD) and osteoporosis are representative senile diseases. Various studies have reported that AD and osteoporosis share many risk factors that affect each other's incidence. This aimed to determine if active medication treatment of AD could affect the development of osteoporosis. Methods: The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service provided data consisting of diagnosis, demographics, prescription drug, procedures, medical materials, and healthcare resources. In this study, data of all AD patients in South Korea who were registered under the national health insurance system were obtained. The cohort underwent conversion to an Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership-Common Data Model version 5 format. Results: This study included 11,355 individuals in the good persistent group and an equal number of 11,355 individuals in the poor persistent group from the National Health Claims database for AD drug treatment. In primary analysis, the risk of osteoporosis was significantly higher in the poor persistence group than in the good persistence group (hazard ratio, 1.20 [95% confidence interval, 1.09-1.32]; p<0.001). Conclusions: We found that the good persistence group treated with anti-dementia drugs for AD was associated with a significant lower risk of osteoporosis in this nationwide study. Further studies are needed to clarify the pathophysiological link in patients with two chronic diseases.
