This paper deals with the creation of a new, low-cost point/position tracking system that can measure deformations in engineering structures with simple commercially widespread cameras. Though point tracking systems do exist today, such as Stereo Pattern Recognition (SPR) and Projection Moir$\acute{e}$ Interferometry (PMI) systems, they are far too costly to use to analyze small, simple structures because complex optical components such as large flashes, high-resolution cameras and data acquisition systems with several computers are required. We developed a point tracking system using commercial cameras. This system used IR LEDs and commercial IR CCD cameras to minimize the interference posed by other extraneous light sources. The main algorithm used for this system is an optical point tracking algorithm, which is composed of the point extraction algorithm and the point matching algorithm for 3-D motion estimation. a series of verification tests were performed. Then, the developed point tracking system was applied to measure deformations of an acrylic plate under a mechanical load. The measured deformations of the acrylic plate matched well with the numerical analysis results. The results indicate that the developed point tracking system is reliable enough to measure continuous deformed shapes of various engineering structures.
Currently, various sensors have been used for advanced driver assistance systems. In order to overcome the limitations of individual sensors, sensor fusion has recently attracted the attention in the field of intelligence vehicles. Thus, vision and radar based sensor fusion has become a popular concept. The typical method of sensor fusion involves vision sensor that recognizes targets based on ROIs (Regions Of Interest) generated by radar sensors. Especially, because AVM (Around View Monitor) cameras due to their wide-angle lenses have limitations of detection performance over near distance and around the edges of the angle of view, for high performance of sensor fusion using AVM cameras and radar sensors the exact ROI extraction of the radar sensor is very important. In order to resolve this problem, we proposed a sensor fusion scheme based on commercial radar modules of the vendor Delphi. First, we configured multiple radar data logging systems together with AVM cameras. We also designed radar post-processing algorithms to extract the exact ROIs. Finally, using the developed hardware and software platforms, we verified the post-data processing algorithm under indoor and outdoor environments.

The RGB Bayer filter system consists of mosaic R, G, and B filters on the grid of photo sensors with which typical commercial DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras and CCD/CMOS cameras are taken. Many unique astronomical data taken with RGB Bayer filter systems are available, including transient objects, e.g., supernovae, variable stars, and solar system bodies. The utilization of such data in scientific research strongly requires reliable photometry transformation methods. In this work, we develop a series of formulae to derive magnitudes in the Johnson-Cousins BVR filter system from those in the RGB Bayer filter system.
A three dimensional vision is obtained by stereoscopic view using a modified commercial TV set and matching color filter glasses. Two video signals from two CCTV cameras are connected to the RGB (red, green, blue) inputs of picture tube selecting two different colors for two video signals. A synchronizing signal drives a CCTV camera and the color TV set. On the other hand, a delayed synchronizing signal drives the other CCTV camera shifting its image on display. This shift is used in correcting image distortion.
The study is to analyze dynamo test results for various commercial pads in order to verify the performance of brake disk with CV-NCM cast iron. The developed brake disk will apply to 200 km/h tilting trains that is being developed as one part of project for speed-up on Korean existing railroad. The test program is made out suitably for braking condition and performance of test equipment by referring UIC 541-3. Two kinds of resin pad and one kind of foreign sintered pad suitable for 200 km/h trains are used as various commercial pad for the dynamo test. The data aquisition for the maximum and smallest temperature, hot spot, etc. on disk and pad is performed by using the thermocouples and thermal imaging cameras. From this research, we obtained braking characteristics between CV-NCM cast iron disk and pad of various material and will be utilized usefully as basis data of performance optimization of developing sintered pad.
The IEEE 802.15.7r1 Task Group (TG7r1), known as the revision of the IEEE 802.15.7 Visible Light Communication standard targeting the commercial usage of visible light communication systems which mainly use either image sensors or cameras, is of interest in this paper. The vast challenge in Image Sensor Communications (ISC), as it has been addressed in the Technical Consideration Document (TCD) of the TG7r1, is the Image Sensor Compatibility to support the variety of different commercial cameras available on the market. The on-going ISC standard must adhere to compatible image sensors regulations. This paper brings an inside review of the TG7r1 and an inside look of related works on Image Sensor Communications. The paper analyzes the compatibility features by introducing a revised model of receiver to explain how those features are necessary. One of the most challenging but interesting features is the capability in being compatible to camera frame rates. The variation of camera frame rate is modeled from verified experimental results. Noticeably, three singular approaches to support frame rates compatibility, including temporal approach, spatial approach, and frequency-domain approach, are proposed on the paper along with concise definitions. Those schemes have been presented as valuable proposals on the call-for-proposal meeting series of the TG7r1 recently.
Nowadays personal users create a variety of multi-media contents and share them with others through various devices over the Internet since the concept of user created content (UCC) has been widely accepted as a new paradigm in today's multi-media market, which has broken the boundary of contents providers and consumers. This paradigm shift has also introduced a new business model that makes it possible for them to create their own multi-media contents for commercial purpose. This paper proposes a tangible virtual studio using augmented reality to author multi-media contents easily and intuitively for personal broadcasting and personal content generation. It provides a set of tangible interfaces and devices such as visual markers, cameras, movable and rotatable arms carrying cameras, and miniaturized set. They can offer an easy-to-use interface in an immersive environment and an easy switching mechanism between tangible environment and virtual environment. This paper also discusses how to remove inconsistency between real objects and virtual objects during the AR-enabled visualization with a context-adaptable tracking method. The context-adaptable tracking method not only adjusts the locations of invisible markers by interpolating the locations of existing reference markers, but also removes a jumping effect of movable virtual objects when their references are changed from one marker to another.

This keynote presentation covers the subject of intelligent systems development for monitoring and control in various NASA space applications. Similar intelligent systems technology also has applications in terrestrial commercial applications. Discussion will be given of the general approach of intelligent systems and description given of intelligent systems under prototype development for possible use in Space Shuttle Upgrade, in the Experimental Crew Return. Vehicle, and in free-flying space robotic cameras to provide autonomy to these spacecraft with flexible human intervention, if desired or needed. Development of intelligent system monitoring and control for regenerative life support subsystems such as NASA's human rated Bio-PLEX test facility is also described. A video showing two recent world's firsts in real-time vision-guided robotic arm and hand grasping of tumbling and translating complex shaped objects in micro-gravity will also be shown.
Thermal infrared imaging is a highly promising technology for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance of electronic, electrical and mechanical elements in nuclear power plants. However, conventional low-cost infrared imaging systems suffer from poor spatial resolution compared to commercial CCD cameras. This paper describes an approach to enhance inspection performances for calandria reactor area of Wolsung nuclear power plant through the technique of superimposing thermal infrared image into real CCD image. In the occurrence of thermal abnormalities on observation points and areas of calandria reactor area, unusual hot image taken from thermal infrared camera is mapped upon re...
Experimental data for the flows in a mixing tank with a bottom agitator are useful for the validation of CFD commercial code. A hybrid volume PIV measurement technique was constructed to measure the flows inside of the mixing tank. The measurement system consists of three cameras. An agitator was installed at the bottom of the tank and it rotates clockwise and counterclockwise. Using the constructed measurement system, instantaneous vector fields were obtained. A phase averaging technique was adopted for the measured instantaneous three-dimensional velocity vector fields. Turbulent properties were evaluated from the instantaneous vector fields.
