CFD를 사용한 복잡한 형상을 갖는 래버린스 실의 누설량 예측 (Prediction of Combination-Type-Staggered-Labyrinth Seal Leakage Using CFD)

  • Leakage reduction through annular type labyrinth seals of steam turbine is necessary for enhancing their efficiency and the precise prediction method of seal leakage is needed. In this study, numerical analysis for leakage prediction of the combination-type-staggered-labyrinth seal has been carried out using FLUENT 6 which is commercial CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) code based on FVM (Finite Volume Method) and SIMPLE algorism. The present CFD results are verified with the theoretical analysis based on Bulk-flow concept which has been mainly used in predicting seal leakage. Comparing with the result of Bulk-flow model analysis, the leakage result of CFD analysis shows good agreement within 7.1% error.

  • CFD 해석 기술은 열 또는 유체 유동과 관련한 산업 전분야에 걸친 제품의 설계, 개발 시에 컴퓨터를 응용하는 해석기술로서, 컴퓨터를 이용한 가상 시험 (시뮬레이션)을 통해 개발기간 단축, 비용절감 등을 이루고자 활용되고 있다. 그러나 CFD 해석을 위해서는 고가의 외산 상용 CFD 소프트웨어의 사용이 일반적이다. 이에 대한 대안으로 Opensource 기반의 CFD 소프트웨어가 있으나 텍스트 인터페이스 환경만을 지원하기 때문에 전문적인 지식을 가진 사용자만이 사용 가능하다. 이에 본 기술개발에서는 상용 CFD 해석 소프트웨어 수준의 신뢰도를 가지며, 국내외적으로 많은 사용자를 확보하고 있는 Opensource 기반의 CFD 소프트웨어인 OpenFOAM에 대하여 그래픽 기반 환경 설정을 지원하도록 구성하여 전문가뿐만 아니라 초보자도 쉽게 CFD 해석 환경의 구축이 가능하도록 하는 환경을 개발하였다. 또한 개발된 시스템은 CFD 해석을 위한 전처리(형상 및 격자생성) 환경과 후처리(결과 분석 및 가시화)를 위한 환경을 연계를 지원하여 하나의 플랫폼안에서 통합된 CFD 해석 프로세스가 가능하도록 지원한다.

  • 방향타는 조선 분야에서 중요한 역할을 하기 때문에 방향타의 유체역학적 특성을 조사하기 위해 수치 시뮬레이션이 수행되었다. 유체역학적 힘과 같은 일부 값은 예인 탱크에서 쉽게 측정할 수 있지만, 실험을 통해 압력 분포, 속도 분포, 와류 발생과 같은 유동장에 대한 자세한 정보를 얻기는 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 전산유체역학(CFD)을 이용하여 방향타에 작용하는 유체역학 계수와 레이놀즈수가 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 상용 전산유체역학 프로그램 Ansys Fluent를 이용하여 방향타 주위의 유동 특성을 연구하였고, 이때 k-epsilon 난류 모델이 사용되었다. 먼저 CFD 상용코드를 이용하여 KCS 방향타의 받음각에 따른 항력계수와 양력계수를 구하였다. 둘째, 동일한 조건에서 2차원 양력계수와 항력계수를 3차원 계수와 비교되었다. 셋째, 레이놀즈수가 유체역학적 힘에 미치는 영향이 연구되었다.

선형설계와 수치계산기법 응용 (Hull form Design and Application of CFD Techniques)

  • Computational methods can be classified roughly into two parts: one is the methods based on a potential flow theory, and the other is numerical solvers(CFD) based on Navier-Stockes equation. Methods based on a potential theory are more effective than CFD when the free surface effect is considered. Especially Rankine source method seems to become widespread for simulations of wave making problems. For computations of viscous flow problems, CFD techniques have rapidly been developed and have shown many successful results in the viscous flow calculation. Present paper introduces a computational system 'WAVIS' which includes a pre-processor, potential ant viscous flow solvers and a post-processor. To validate the system, the calculated results for modem commercial hull forms are compared with measurements. It is found that the results from the system are in good agreement with the experimental data, illustrating the accuracy of the numerical methods employed for WAVIS.

펌프 흡수정내 발생된 보텍스에 대한 CFD 예측 (CFD Prediction on Vortex in Sump Intake at Pump Station)

  • In large pump station, vortex generation such as free-surface vortex and submerged vortex occurring around pump intake, or at bell-mouth inlet has been an important flow characteristics which should be considered always to keep away the suction of air-entrained or cavitated flow. In this study, a commercial CFD code was used to predict accurately the vortex generation for the specified intake design. These result shows the preliminary result of submerged vortex prediction for the Turbo-machinery Society of Japan Sump Test CFD standard model. At bottom wall, air volume fraction (red color) was found in a large scale to explain the submerged vortex generation at particular operation and configuration condition. And these indicate the free surface formation behind the bell mouth. Particularly, non-uniform approaching flow is a major parameter to govern the occurrence of the free-surface vortex. Futhermore the comparison between turbulence ($k-{\epsilon}$ & $k-{\omega}$ model) mode were executed in this study.

  • In the present study, a CFD program is developed for the Fluid-Structure Interaction(FSI) analysis. The non-staggered, non-orthogonal, and unstructured grid system was also used to handle the complicated geometries in the program. In order to validate the capabilities of the developed CFD program, various models are investigated by using unstructured and nonorthogonal meshes. The predicted results are a good agreement with analytic solution, experimental data and commercial software. And also PISO algorithm is applied for transient flow analysis. The cyclic boundary condition and baffle cell are developed in order to improve the effectiveness of the calculation for complex geometry.

유압 완층기 내에서의 오일 유동에 대한 CFD 해석 (A CFD Analysis of the Oil Flow in a Hydraulic Shock Absorber)

  • Various types of hydraulic shock absorbers are widely used in many fields because of its numerous advantages. However, in order to design adequate damping characteristics, accurate flow data near the orifices are required essentially. In this paper, a commercial computational fluid dynamics(CFD) code, FLUENT is adopted to investigate the flow characteristics near orifices of a shock absorber. Static pressure and velocity vector distributions, fluid path lines are presented for compression/tension strokes and various piston speeds. In order to validate the result of analysis, the numerically obtained damping forces are compared with those of analytical estimations obtained by modified Bernoulli equation. The results reported herein will provide better understanding of the detailed flow fields within shock absorber, and the CFD analysis method proposed in this paper can be used in the design of other types of hydraulic shock absorber.

  • Aerodynamic characteristics, such as drag and lift, play an important role in automobile design under certain speed conditions. Such characteristics are essential to design an automobile since they are directly related to automobile's performance such as passenger safety and fuel consumption. There is a huge demand for the automobile to have safe performance at high speed. Reduction in drag is also important and it could lead to the solution of air flow induced noise and dust problems. The objective of this research is to find out the aerodynamic differences between conventional side mirror and a modified one using CFD. Although drag generated around a side mirror is only about 7% of the total drag when a car runs, it is very closely related to driver's field of vision and noise generation. CFD simulation of the flowfield around a car side-view mirror was performed using a commercial code; Gambit and FLUENT.

CFD를 활용한 브러쉬 요소의 누설유량 예측 해석 (CFD Analysis of Leakage Prediction for Brush Element)

  • The accurate prediction of leakage flow through the brush element of brush seal at the steam turbine is important to find optimum design parameters for increasing an efficiency. In this study, CFD analysis method using commercial software FLUENT is proposed to predict leakage through the brush element. Since the brush element has a complex three-dimensional shape with many bristle assemblies, it is difficult to analyze the flow field. Therefore, if the brush element is assumed to be porous medium region, the analysis time can be shortened. Two determination methods of resistance coefficients of the Darcian porous medium equation are suggested. By comparing the 2D and 3D CFD analysis results for the leakage of the brush element using the two resistance coefficient determination methods, the effectiveness of the analysis for the porous medium assumption is proved.

  • A new multi inner stage(MIS) cyclone was designed to remove the acidic gas and minute particles of harmful materials produced from electronic industry. To characterize gas flow in MIS cyclone, pressure and velocity distribution were calculated by means of computational fluid dynamics(CFD) commercial program. Also, the flow locus of particles and particle removal efficiency were analyzed by Lagrangian method. When outlet pressure condition was -1,000 Pa, the efficiency was the best in this study. Based on the CFD simulation result, the pressure loss and destruction removal efficiency was measured through MIS cyclone experiment.
