자동차 연료 시스템에관한 연료 응고, 누설, 불량 휘발유 및 연료 첨가제에 의한 고장 사례 고찰 (Study of Failure Examples for Fuel Coagulation, Leakage, Low Grade Gasoline and Fuel Additives in Automotive Fuel System)

  • The fuel system of a vehicle is a very important compotent, as it provides the firing resources to the combustion chamber of the engine. However, improper operation of the system can generate bad condition or start-off during engine revolution. This study analyzed several examples of failure that had originated in the field. In the first example, the driver operated a vehicle containing both gasoline and LPG in the fuel tank, but the gasoline fuel remained unused for a few months. Therefore the fuel pump was clogged because of gasoline congelation. The second example, dealt with fuel leakage that occurred from the slightly torn O-ring connecting the fuel lines. The third example, pertained to engine damage and power-down owing to the usage of proor-quality fuel and ingredient. Therefore, it is necessary to take adequate measures to prevent the failure of the fuel system of vehicle.

로켓 산화제 과잉 예연소기 분사기의 성능특성 연구 (An Experimental Study of the Rocket Preburner Injector)

  • 산화제 과잉 예연소기는 고성능 닫힘형 액체추진로켓 시스템에 적용된다. 이러한 산화제 과잉 연소기는 산화제-연료 혼합비가 약 50이상에서 작동하므로, 예연소기에서 분무특성과 혼합성능이 연소 안정성에 큰 영향을 주게 된다. 본 연구에서는 예연소기에 적용 가능한 분사기를 설계하고, 유량측정 및 가시화 실험을 통해 연료 및 산화제의 분무각을 측정하고, Recess length에 따른 분무특성의 변화를 확인하여 산화제 과잉 예연소기 분사기의 분무특성을 연구하였으며, 이러한 실험결과는 산화제 과잉 예연소기 분사기를 설계할 수 있는 기초자료로 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

CO concentration distribution in a tunnel model closed at left end side using CFD

  • A primary air pollutant as an indicator of air quality released from incomplete combustion is Carbon monoxide. A study of the distributions of CO concentration with no heat source in a tunnel model closed at left end side is simulated with a commercial CFD code. The tunnel model is used to investigate the CO concentration distributions at three Reynolds numbers of 990, 1970, and 3290. which are computed by the inlet velocities of 0.3, 0.6 and 1.0 m/s. The CFD predictive approaches can be useful for a better design to analyze the distributions of CO concentrations. In the case of the tunnel model closed at left end side alone, the concentration changes of x/H=-5 and -2.5 have the similar laminar characteristics like the case of the tunnel model closed at both end sides expecially at low values of Reynolds number. Irregular average CO concentration variations at Re=1790 are considered that the transition from laminar to turbulent flow occurs even in three different tunnel models.

사이클론 연소기를 이용한 탄화왕겨의 제조(II) (Production of Carbonized Rice Husk by a Cyclone Combustor(II))

  • One of effective utilization method of rice husk is to utilize it as culture material by carbonizing the rice husk. As a second part of a series to investigate the effective and continuous production of carbonized rice husk by a cyclone combustor, a non-slagging vertical cyclone combustor without vortex collector pocket was introduced. Isothermal and mixed firing with LPG and rice husk were undertaken in order to characterize the system. Inert rice husk was used during the isothermal test to find mass of rice husk collected. It was impossible to ignite rice husk itself over the experimental conditions considered in this experiment. Cyclone combustor was operated at temperatures of 1,273~1,473K. Detailed combustion data were obtained from a pilot unit with the air flow rate of 70m$^3$/h and rice husk feed of 2kg. The equivalence ratio ranged from 0.66 to 3.48. The auxiliary gas flow rate was varied from 3.22 to 12.86$\ell$/min. The weight reduction, pH and particle size distribution of carbonized rice husk were measured to evaluate the quality of carbonized rice husk. An analysis of exhaust gas emission was conducted to characterize the combustor. The required carbonized rice husk could be obtained at equivalence ratio of 1.68~2.17, combustor temperature of 1,273~1,373K and auxiliary gas flow rate of 3.22~6.43$\ell$/min. A method to reduce CO emissions should be employed.

도심하천유역의 PCBs 농도 분포 (Concentration Distribution of Polychlorinated Biphenyls(PCBs) in Urban Watershed)

  • In this study, we have examined concentration distribution and patterns of PCBs in waters, sediments and soils in an agricultural area of South Korea to investigate the relationship between PCBs sources and concentration levels. The concentration of PCBs in water samples were ranged from lower values below detection limit to 8.25 ug/L and the concentration of PCBs in sediment samples were ranged from lower values below detection limit to 76.67 ug/Kg. The concentration of PCBs in soil samples were ranged from lower values below detection limit to 23.51 ug/Kg. These contamination levels were far below the guideline values suggested for environmental quality assessment. The homologue patterns in samples varied from sample to sample, but isomer patterns were very similar with each other. PCB-138 and PCB-153 were predominant congeners in the soil and sediment, which were similar to the results obtained from previous studies. With these results, the assessment of potential sources of PCBs contamination in the sediments of the Nakdong river basin was performed. The principal components were extracted by Principal Component Analysis(PCA). As the result of PCA, it could be expected that PCBs in samples of this study were more affected by PCB products than combustion processes and mostly affected by already-known sources. The PCBs in the soil and sediment samples were related with commercial PCB products.

  • A Piston assembly is very important because it directly receives the energy generated during combustion process. Surely, the friction and lubrication of piston ring pack do an important role in the performance and fuel economy of an engine. in fact, the friction loss in piston ring pack is the biggest portion to the whole engine friction. Therefore, the improvement of lubrication quality and friction loss in piston ring pack will be directly related with the improvement in the performance and fuel economy of an engine. Meanwhile, the oil consumption and blow-by gas through piston-cylinder-ring crevices have to be controlled as less as possible. In these two aspects, the study on the optimized design of piston ring pack has to be carried out. In this study, for the efficient design of piston ring pack, it is focused to develop a basic computer program that predicts the inter-ring pressure, the motion of ring and the blow-by gas through a crevice volume model between adjacent rings, and the oil film thickness and the friction computed by lubrication theories.

서울 대기 중 기체 및 입자상 다환방향족탄화수소 (PAHs)의 낮·밤 분포 특성 (Day and Night Distribution of Gas and Particle Phases Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) Concentrations in the Atmosphere of Seoul)

  • Day and night sampling for gas and particle phases PAHs were carried out in Seoul to characterize gas and particle phases PAHs concentrations in day and night times. There was no significant difference between day and night time for particle phase PAHs concentrations and phase distribution of PAHs, while, gas phase PAHs concentrations in daytime were about 1/2 of nighttime concentrations in both summer and winter due to photochemical reaction of gas phase PAHs during daytime. A high fraction of cancer risk for PAHs was attributed to particle phase PAHs and the excess cancer risk in winter was higher than in summer. The excess cancer risk level of total(gas+particle) PAHs in summer was partially observed when both gas and particle phase PAHs concentrations were considered as risk assessment. Based on the diagnostic ratios and factor analysis of PAHs concentrations, combustion(coal and natural gas) and vehicular emission might be the most significant contributors of PAHs and major factors for determining of PAHs concentration were different between day and night times.

Engine 폐유 자원순환 기술에 관한 연구 (A study for cyclic Process technique of mineral base engine used oil resource)

  • A new process disregraded the H$_2$SO$_4$ treatment process heretofore in use, was developed and substituted for mineral base engine used oil of homemade SAE-30 grade H.V.I., which was used covering 4,500km, as samples, and the following results in research, was obtained. (1) A good quality of rerefinded base oil was obtained through roughly a course of developed processes of vacuum distillation process, solvent extraction process, neutralization treatment process and clay treatment process. (2) Through vacuum distillation process, the size of fine grains of insoluble colloid carbon that is, colloid carbon which was produced by burning of internal combustion engine oil and fuel, could be brought up and precipitated (3) The insoluble matters and admixtures could be easily dispersed and dissolved by mixing and extracting solvent disregarded the H$_2$SO$_4$ treatment process heretofore in use (4) waste matter heretofore called acid sludge in consequence of the process, did not appear at all. accordingly, the environmental pollution could be removed. (5) The troubles of corrosion to copper strip which was faults of the usual used oil refined products and peculiar offensive odor of the rerefined oil, could be solved through the neutralization process. (6) The yield of rerefined oil obtained through a course of processes was over 86 percent, and it is of practical use, not to speak of commercial value.

음식물쓰레기 수소발효 시 pH 영향 및 축산폐수와의 혼합 발효 (Effect of pH on Hydrogen Fermentation of Food Waste with Livestock Wastewater)

  • 현대의 집적된 산업 사회에서 자정능력을 초과하여 발생하는 막대한 양의 유기성폐자원은 수질, 토양, 대기 등 총체적인 환경오염을 유발하는 처리 곤란 물질로 전락하였고, 화석연료의 지속적인 사용에 따른 온실가스의 방출은 지구온난화를 촉진시켰다. 개발된 회분식 공정을 적용하는 음식물쓰레기 수소발효에서, 세계 최초로 수소 전환율과 초기 및 운전 pH와의 관계를 수학적으로 표현하였고, 동시에 최적화하였다. 최적 초기 및 운전 pH는 각각 7.50, 6.01이었다. 축산폐수를 음식물쓰레기의 수소발효에 보조기질로 첨가 시 pH 제어를 위해 요구되는 알칼리량을 감소시킴과 동시에 수소발생률도 크게 증대시킬 수 있음을 관찰할 수 있었다.

황사가 서울시 대기 중 PAHs 농도에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Yellow Sand Phenomena on the Concentration Variation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Ambient Air of Seoul)

  • In order to characterize the distribution patterns of PAHs between Yellow Sand (YS) and non-Yellow Sand(NYS) periods, we collected and analyzed aerosol samples for PAHs for the periods covering 28 March through 24 April 2000. The concentrations of TSP measured during the YS periods were approximately two times higher than the NYS periods. By contrast, the concentrations of PAHs during YS were higher than those of NYS by 140%. In ad-dition, their concentrations in PM 10 were larger than those TSP by 120% . Detailed inspections of our data indi-catd that three species including chrysene. benzo(b)fluoranthene, and benzo(k)fluoranthene were effeciently ad-sorbed by particles less than 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ diameter and that there were dominating the distribution characterstics of PAHs during the YS periods. Results of correlation analysis also indicated that PAHs exhibited strong correlations with those pollutants originating from combustion sources. It is thus concluded that pollutants such as toxic PAHs that originate from diverse anthropogenic sources of China should be contributing to the degradation of the ambient air quality in Seoul.
