  • The Because of its high thermal efficiency, the direct injection (DI) diesel engine has emerged as a promising potential candidate in the field of transportation. However, the amount of nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$) increases in the local high-temperature regions and that of particulate matter (PM) increases in the diffusion flame region during diesel combustion. In the de-$NO_x$ system the Lean $NO_x$ Trap (LNT) catalyst is used, which absorbs $NO_x$ under lean exhaust gas conditions and releases it in rich conditions. This technology can provide a high $NO_x$-conversion efficiency, but the right amount of reducing agent should be supplied to the catalytic converter at the right time. In this research, the emission characteristics of a diesel engine equipped with a micro-reformer that acts as a reductants-supplying equipment were investigated using an LNT system, and the effects of the exhaust-gas temperature were also studied.

  • The recycling technology by the catalytic conversion is one of the most promising techniques for the $CO_2$ treatment of coal burning power plant flue gases. The conversion of $CO_2$ to valuable product of $CH_4$ can be used as a fuel to run the turbine for electricity generation. Through this technique, the amount of coal needed for the combustion in a gas turbine can be reduced as well as $CO_2$ emissions. Therefore, a series of catalysts based on cerium oxide doped with copper, nickel and manganese were prepared by impregnation method. From the characterization analysis, it showed that the prepared catalysts calcined at $400^{\circ}C$ were amorphous in structure with small particle size in the range below 100 nm. Meanwhile, the catalyst particles were aggregated and agglomerated with higher surface area of $286.70m^2g^{-1}$. By increasing the calcination temperature of catalysts to $1000^{\circ}C$, the particle sizes were getting bigger (> 100 nm) and having moderate crystallinity with lower surface area ($67.90m^2g^{-1}$). From the catalytic testing among all the prepared catalysts, Mn/Ce-75/$Al_2O_3$ calcined at $400^{\circ}C$ was assigned as the most potential catalyst which gave 49.05% and 56.79% $CO_2$ conversion at reaction temperature of $100^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$, respectively.

  • Emissoin of heavy duty vehicle have much positioned in air pollution although its limited number of vehicles. CNG vehicles are coming to the fore as one of the solution of diesel vehicles. CNG vehicles exhaust smaller emission than diesel vehicles on PM and NOx. In this study, aftertreatment technologies are introduced on vehicles which use CNG and hydrogenmixed fuel. Withmixing hydrogen with CNG, combustion efficiency is enhanced, and harmful emission might be decreased, but methane that is main component of CNG brings green house effect. In order to remove methane and NOx in exhaust gas of CNG engine, methane oxidation catalyst and SCR technologies were respectively analyzed.

  • The lowering of temperature for combustion of diesel particulate matters (or diesel soot) is one of the important tasks in automotive industry that is searching for a way to meet up "high-fuel efficiency, low-emission" standard. In this study, it was discussed how the use of ozone over platinum-based catalyst promotes a low-temperature soot oxidation occurred at $150^{\circ}C$. The use of platinum catalyst did not increase oxidation rate largely but was very effective in improving the selectivity of carbon dioxide. The pre-oxidation of NO into $NO_2$ using ozone was rather crucial in improving the oxidation rate of soot at $150^{\circ}C$.

  • Tetrahydrotricyclopentadiene(below THTCPD) isomer is a good candidate for the high performance liquid fuel component because of high density and heat of combustion value. But it has bad fluidity. The object of this study was to find out the optimal reaction condition to improve the fluidity of THTCPD because initial reactant is solid state, So we have carried out isomerization reactions using aluminum chloride catalyst under varying the reaction condition such as reaction temperature and reaction solvents. The results showed that when using aluminum chloride catalyst, isomerization reaction was more active in dichloromethane(methylene chloride: MC), 1,2-dichloroethane(ethylene chloride: EC) and chloroform than n-hexnae and toluene and was effected by reaction temperature.

  • The environmental regulations in the world has been reinforced and many nations has devoted themselves to the development of cost-effective technology. Selective catalyst reduction(SCR) and selective non-catalyst reduction (SNCR) processes are mainly used to treat nitrogen oxidants generated from fossil-fuel combustion. One of these typical technologies for reduction of do-NOx is SNCR process has increased continuously because of the low cost for building and maintenance. Nevertheless the researches on the application to real scale plant by the reductant like Urea are rarely studied. In this paper, an experimental investigations were performed on the SNCR process in the industrial waste incineration plant. With no reducing agent, the concentration of NOx stayed in around 180 ppm $(O_2\;12\%)$ with the exhausting temperature of $950^{\circ}C$ and changed within the range of 20 ppm to remain relatively consistent. When $10\;wt\%)$ of a solution was added, the efficiency of denitrification reached above $61.4\%$ with the NSR of 2.0 and the exhausting temperature of $950^{\circ}C.$ When the concentration of the urea solution was set to $10\;wt\%$ and the sprinkling to four nozzles, the reaction temperature was reduced to about $50~100^{\circ}C$ with a mixture of $10\;wt\%\;CH_3OH\;and\;5wt\%\;Na_2CO_3$ in $40\;wt\%$ of the solution. The NOx removal efficiency increased to $78.4\%,$ achieving a broader and expansive range of reaction temperatures than the addition of an unmixed pure solution.

  • This paper reports development process of a university-based sounding rocket using simplified hybrid rocket propulsion system for low-altitude flight application. A hybrid propulsion system was tried to be designed with as few components as possible for more economical, simpler and safer propulsion system, which is essential for the small scale sounding rocket operation as a CanSat carrier. Using blow-down feeding system and catalytic ignition as combustion starter, 250 N class hybrid rocket system was composed of three components: a composite tank, valves, and a thruster. With a composite tank filled with both hydrogen peroxide($H_2O_2$) as an oxidizer and nitrogen gas($N_2$) as a pressurant, the feeding pressure was operated in blowdown mode during thruster operation. The $MnO_2/Al_2O_3$ catalyst was fabricated for propellant decomposition, and ground test of propulsion system showed the almost theoretical temperature of decomposed $H_2O_2$ at the catalyst reactor, indicating sufficient catalyst efficiency for propellant decomposition. Auto-ignition of the high density polyethylene(HDPE) fuel grain successfully occurred by the decomposed $H_2O_2$ product without additional installation of any ignition devices. Performance test result was well matched with numerical internal ballistics conducted prior to the experimental propulsion system ground test. A sounding rocket using the developed hybrid rocket was designed, fabricated, flight simulated and launch tested. Six degree-of-freedom trajectory estimation code was developed and the comparison result between expected and experimental trajectory validated the accuracy of the developed trajectory estimation code. The fabricated sounding rocket was successfully launched showing the effectiveness of the simplified hybrid rocket propulsion system.

  • Stoichiometric combustion engine with Three-way catalyst had an advantage that can reduce the harmful emissions effectively. Fuel equivalence ratio controlled from engine is very important because Fuel equivalence ratio with high conversion efficiency was narrow. This study analyzed the conversion efficiency under whole range of operating area for to evaluate the performance of three-way catalyst. In order to identify the Optimum conversion efficiency, the conversion efficiency due to change the control value of fuel equivalence ratio was investigated. The result show that conversion efficiency of emissions(more than 95%) has discovered by means of fuel equivalence ratio control at each test condition. As engine power increases, optimal fuel equivalence ratio tended to increase linearly under operating conditions of similar exhaust gas temperature.

  • The blending method that is an addition of small quantity of fuel was used to increase the performance of green propellant thruster. 90 wt.% hydrogen peroxide as a green propellant was selected, and ethanol was used as a blended fuel. The o/f ratio was chosen as 50 which has higher theoretical performance than 98 wt.% hydrogen peroxide. The chamber temperature of blended hydrogen peroxide was higher than adiabatic chamber temperature of hydrogen peroxide. Therefore, performance can be improved by ethanol blending. Several catalyst and its support were compared to find appropriate catalyst for decomposition and combustion of ethanol blended hydrogen peroxide. As a experimental results, Pt was suitable, but $MnO_2$ had a chamber instability when it was reused. The ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ which is high heat-resistant support showed very unstable performance in both Pt and $MnO_2$ catalyst since it has low decomposition performance.

  • In the trend of world wide environment preservation, researchers tried to find new environment friendly propellant instead of highly toxic propellant, Hydrazine. Among the candidates, ionic liquid propellants have lower toxicity, higher density, and higher specific impulse than Hydrazine. These ionic liquid propellants have high combustion chamber temperature, so catalyst supports such as gamma alumina cannot withstand in that temperature. Therefore, a catalyst that showed stable characteristic in high temperature is needed. Barium dopped alumina can be changed to Hexaaluminate in high temperature, and its characteristic in high temperature is superior than gamma alumina. Barium dopped Alumina is wet impregnated with Platinum and heated up to $1300^{\circ}C$ and $1400^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. Those catalysts were examined by XRD, SEM, EDS, BET, and Drop test.
