The hybrid catalytic(catalytic+thermal) combustor of a lean methane-air mixture on platinum catalyst was investigated numerically using a 2-D boundary layer model with detailed homogeneous and heterogeneous chemistries. For the more accurate calculations, the actual surface site density of monolith coated with platinum was decided by the comparison with experimental data. It was found that the homogeneous reactions in the monolith had little effect on the change of temperature profile, methane conversion rate and light off location. However, the radicals such as OH and CO were produced rapidly at exit by homogeneous reactions. Thus the homogeneous reactions were important to predict the productions of CO and NOx exactly. In thermal combustor, the production of $N_2O$ was more dominant than that of NO due to the relative important of the reaction $N_2+O(+M){\to}N_2O(+M)$. Finally the production of CO and NOx by amount of methane addition were studied.
A numerical analysis was performed to predict the thermo-fluid dynamic characteristics of hydrazine monopropellant reaction in the thruster combustor and nozzle. A 1-D porous model was introduced to simulate catalytic reaction by iridium in the combustor while 2-D axisymmetric analysis was applied to predict the nozzle flow. The chemical species and temperature variations were predicted by changing the injection pressure and mass flow rate and their results were validated by comparison with limited experimental data. The thrust variation with injection pressure could be estimated using the current 1-D combustor modeling.
We developed functional synthetic lubricant for internal combustion engine oil, which would improve engine oil performance for internal combustion engine and extend engine life. We made base oil by synthesizing nonanoic acid, 1.1.1-trimethylol propane (which has good bio-degradability) and pentaerythrytol ester. We synthesized catalyst using p-toluene sulfonic acid 0.15 wt% and coloring-prevention agent hypo-phosphorus acid 0.18 wt% at 180-$190^{\circ}C$. Reaction temperature was increased at the rate of $10^{\circ}C$ for every 1 hour. When acid value reached below 3, reaction was completed. After cooling and deoxidization, we washed it by distilled water two times. After dehydration and filtering, we obtained trimethylol propane tripelargonate (TMTP) and pentaerythrytol tetrapelargonate (PETP) at yields of 96 % and 98 % respectively.
Nano porous indium tin oxide (ITO) powder was synthesized employing a new route sol-gel combustion hybrid method using Ketjen Black as a fuel. The nano porous ITO powder was composed of $SnCl_4$-98.0% and $In(NO_3)_3{\cdot}XH_2O$-99.999%, produce with a $NH_4OH$ with sol-gel method as a catalyst [1,2]. Crystal structures were examined by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), and those results show shaper intensity peak at $25.6^{\circ}(2{\Theta})$ of $SnO_2$ by increased sintering temperature. A particle morphology as well as crystal size was investigated by scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), and the size of the nano porous powder was found to be in the range of 20~30nm. ITO films could controlled by nano porous powder at various sintering temperature in this paper[3,4]. The sol-gel combustion method was offered simple and effective route for the synthesis of nano porous ITO powder[5].
The unpredicted worldwide oil price makes the energy efficiency technology be more importance than any other period. The small cogeneration system is one of the most representative technology among the energy efficiency technologies, and recently, the household cogeneration system has been the center object of attention because of the loss of power transmission and the reasonable energy consumption relative to the household (condensing) boiler producing heat only. A tiny, 1kW of electrical output, gas fueled internal combustion engine cogeneration system was investigated. The electrical efficiency and thermal efficiency of the system were measured. With the emission characteristics, the cogeneration system was analyzed. It was showed the gas engine cogeneration system produced the lowest NOx level compared any other cogeneration system due to the three-way catalyst.

It was found that the homogeneous reactions in the monolith had little effect on the change of temperature profile, methane conversion rate and light off location. However, the radicals such as OH and CO were produced rapidly at exit by homogeneous reactions. The effect of operation conditions such as equivalence ratio, temperature, velocity, pressure and diameter of the monolith channel at the entrance were studied. In thermal combustor, the production of N$_2$O was more dominant than that of NO due to the relative importance of the reaction N$_2$+O(+M)→N$_2$O(+M). Finally the productions of CO and NOx by amount of methane addition were studied.
Monometallic, bimetallic and trimetallic particles consisting of different weight compositions of Pt-Pd-Rh over pure alumina wash coats have been synthesized and their catalytic performance on methane conversion was studied from 150 to $600^{\circ}C$. Different catalyst formulations with variable Pt, Pd and Rh contents for bimetallic and trimetallic systems were tried and $Pt_{(1.5)}Rh_{(0.3)}/Al_2O_3$ and $Pt_{(1.0)}Pd_{(1.0)}Rh_{(0.3)}/Al_2O_3$ shows low $T_{50}$ and $T_{90}$ temperatures. Bimetallic and trimetallic particle synergism acts as three way catalysts and therefore, all the catalysts show 100% methane conversion. The effect of supports such as $ZrO_2$ and $TiO_2$ on methane combustion was investigated; from $T_{50}$ and $T_{90}$ results both $Al_2O_3$ and $ZrO_2$ are suitable supports for low temperature methane combustion.
Methanol is a liquid fuel which could also be produced from renewable energy sources and has appreciably high energy density. In this work, we investigated the application of $Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{2-x}$ supported Cu and Ni catalysts for hydrogen production via methanol steam reforming. Catalysts were synthesized by solution combustion synthesis. The prepared catalysts with various active materials and Cu loading amounts were tested in a reactor at $200-300^{\circ}C$, 0-5 barg range and steam to methanol molar ratio was 1.5. The catalytic properties of Cu and Ni were compared, and the catalytic performance was shown to depend on the amounts of metal loading and operating conditions such as reaction temperature and pressure.
