The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of combined wedge on the range of motion in ankle and knee joint, ankle eversion moment and knee adduction moment, and center of pressure excursion of foot for genu varus among adult men during gait. This study was carried out with 10 adult men for genu varus in a motion analysis laboratory in J university. The subjects of the experiment were measured above 5cm width between the knees on contact of both medial malleolus of ankle while standing. The width of their knees in neutral position was measured without the inversion or eversion of the subtalar joint by the investigator. The subjects of the experiment were ten who were conducted randomly for standard insole, insole with $10^{\circ}$ lateral on rear foot wedge, insole at $10^{\circ}$lateral on rear foot and $5^{\circ}$ medial on fore foot wedge. Before and after intervention, changes on the range of motion in ankle and knee joint, ankle eversion moment and knee adduction moment, and center of pressure excursion were measured. In order to compare analyses among groups; repeated one-way ANOVA and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ post hoc test were used. As a result, combined wedge group was significantly decreased compared to control wedge group in terms of knee varus angle in mid-stance(p<.05). Combined wedge group was significantly decreased compared to lateral wedge group in terms of ankle eversion moment in whole stance(p<.05). Combined wedge group was significantly decreased compared to lateral wedge group in terms of knee adduction moment in whole stance(p<.05). Combined wedge group was significantly decreased compared to lateral wedge in terms of center of pressure excursion in whole stance(p<.05). The results of this study suggest that combined wedge for genu varus decreased ankle eversion moment and knee adduction moment upon center of pressure excursion. We hypothesize that combined wedge may also be effective in the protection excessive ankle pronation.
We wanted to study the effect of Taeyeumjowee-tang and electroacupunctre combined-therapy on obese patients. From 1 March, 2000 to 30, September, 2000 we studied 33 out-ward patients who clinically diagnosed obesity and classified Tae-Em-In by QSCC(Questionnaire of Sasang Constitution Classification). We treated the patients by electroacupuncture therapy and taeyeumjowee-tang for 6 weeks, We investigated the change of mean body weight, mean body mass index, mean obesity degree, percent body fat and waist-hip circumference ratio. To analyze the results we used repeat measure method by SPSS ver 7.5. The results were as follows: 1. From $70.4{\pm}11.4\;to\;64.9{\pm}8.7$, mean body weight was significantly decreased according to combined-therapy. 2. From $27.2{\pm}3.2\;to\;24.6{\pm}2.7$, mean BMI was significantly decreased according to combined-therapy. 3. From $116.7{\pm}13.9\;to\;104.4{\pm}12.1$, mean obesity degree was significantly decreased according to combined-therapy. 4. From $32.1{\pm}6.8\;to\;27.4{\pm}7.5$, percent body fat was significantly decreased according to combined-therapy. 5. From $0.90{\pm}0.06\;to\;$0.86{\pm}0.06$, waist-hip circumference ratio was significantly decreased according to combined-therapy. In this study we knew the combined-therapy of electroacupuncture and taeyeumjowee-tang is very efficient in obese patient.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the sprinter and skater combined patterns on muscle contraction onset time and muscle activation of body stabilizing muscles. Method : Our study included young and healthy men in their 20s. The participants used the sprinter and skater combined patterns of the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) methods to measure muscle activation and muscle contraction onset time of the trunk muscles. To measure muscle contraction onset time and muscle activation, electrodes were attached to the rectus abdominis (RA), external oblique (EO), internal oblique (IO), and erector spinalis (ES) regions. Significant differences were identified using a paired t-test and a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) analysis. Result : In the sprinter combined pattern, the muscle with the fastest onset time of contraction was the RES, and that with the slowest was the RRA (p<.001). In the skater combined pattern, the muscle with the fastest onset time of contraction was the LES, and that with the slowest was the LRA (p<.001). In the sprinter combined pattern, the REO and LIO presented medium muscle contraction onset times (p<.001). In the skater combined pattern, the LEO and RIO presented medium muscle contraction onset times (p<.001). Conclusions: Based on these results, these patterns could be used as exercise methods for the elderly with delayed proactive response speeds of the body stabilization methods due to imbalances in body stabilizing muscles or limbs movement.
In vitro cytotoxic activities of cisplatin combined with Chungpesagan-tang or puerarin, which were treated with or without human intestinal bacteria, were measured. When cisplatin was combined with Chungpesagan-tang and its ingredient treated without intestinal bacteria, they did not affect the in vitro cytotoxicity of cisplatin against tumor cell lines. However, when cisplatin was combined with intestinal bacteria-treated Chungpesagan-tang and its ingredients, the cytotoxicities against SNU C4, L1210, A549 and P388 tumor cell lines were synergistically increased. Puerarin, which was isolated from Puerariae Radix, did not show in vitro cytotoxicity. However, its metabolite, daidzein, showed potent cytotoxicity against tumor cell lines and was synergistic by the combined usage of cisplatin. These results suggest that natural glycosides are not only prodrugs which can be transformed to active compounds by intestinal microflora, but the combined usage of cisplatin with natural components, such as daidzein, and herbal medicinal polyprescriptions, such as Chungpesagan-tang, may be a new method for prevention and minimization of the toxicity of cisplatin.
This study analyzes the design and part load performance of a power generation system combining a micro gas turbine (MGT) and an organic Rankine cycle (ORC). Design performances of cycles adopting several different organic fluids are analyzed and compared with performance of the steam based cycle. All of the organic fluids recover greater MGT exhaust heat than the steam cycle (much lower stack temperature), but their bottoming cycle efficiencies are lower. R123 provides higher combined cycle efficiency than steam does. The efficiencies of the combined cycle with organic fluids are maximized when the turbine exhaust heat of the MGT is fully recovered at the MGT recuperator, whereas the efficiency of the combined cycle with steam shows an almost reverse trend. Since organic fluids have much higher density than steam, they allow more compact systems. The efficiency of the combined cycle, based on a MGT with 30 percent efficiency, can reach almost 40 percent. hlso, the part load operation of the combined system is analyzed. Two representative power control methods are considered and their performances are compared. The variable speed control of the MGT exhibits far better combined cycle part load efficiency than the fuel only control despite slightly lower bottoming cycle performance.
Purpose: Given the mixture components - process variables experimental data, we propose the strategy to find the proper combined model. Methods: Process variables are factors in an experiment that are not mixture components but could affect the blending properties of the mixture ingredients. For example, the effectiveness of an etching solution which is measured as an etch rate is not only a function of the proportions of the three acids that are combined to form the mixture, but also depends on the temperature of the solution and the agitation rate. Efficient designs for the mixture components - process variables experiments depend on the mixture components - process variables model which is called a combined model. We often use the product model between the canonical polynomial model for the mixture and process variables model as a combined model. Results: First we choose the reasonable starting models among the class of admissible product models and practical combined models suggested by Lim(2011) based on the model selection criteria and then, search for candidate models which are subset models of the starting model by the sequential variables selection method or all possible regressions procedure. Conclusion: Good candidate models are screened by the evaluation of model selection criteria and checking the residual plots for the validity of the model assumption. The strategy to find the proper combined model is illustrated with examples in this paper.

The foundations are classified into shallow and deep, which have important differences: in terms of geometry, the behavior of the soil, its structural functionality, and its constructive systems. The shallow foundations may be of various types according to their function; isolated footings, combined footings, strip footings, and slabs foundation. The isolated footings are of the type rectangular, square and circular. The combined footing may be rectangular, trapezoidal or T-shaped in plan. This paper presents a new model for T-shaped combined footings to obtain the most economical contact surface on the soil (optimal dimensioning) to support an axial load and moment in two directions to each column. The new model considers the soil real pressure, i.e., the pressure varies linearly. The classical model uses the technique of test and error, i.e., a dimension is proposed, and subsequently, the equation of the biaxial bending is used to obtain the stresses acting on each vertex of the T-shaped combined footing, which must meet the conditions following: The minimum stress should be equal or greater than zero, and maximum stress must be equal or less than the allowable capacity that can withstand the soil. To illustrate the validity of the new model, numerical examples are presented to obtain the minimum area of the contact surface on the soil for T-shaped combined footings subjected to an axial load and moments in two directions applied to each column.
Since the scaffold is composed of modular members, the total height of multi-story scaffolds does not often meet with the headroom of construction buildings. At this time, other supporting members need to be set up on the top of scaffolds. However, the mechanical behaviors of the combined system of scaffolds and other supporting members have seldom been discussed. This study explores the stability of the combined system of scaffolds and shores. The loading tests conducted in the laboratory show that the critical load of the combined system of two-story scaffolds and wooden shores is about half that of the three-story scaffold system with the same height. In the failure of both the "scaffold system" and the "combined system of scaffolds and shores' after loading, the deformation mainly occurs in the in-plane direction of the scaffold. The outdoor loading test shows that no failure occurs on any members when the combined system fails. Instead, the whole system buckles and then collapses. In addition, the top formwork of the combined system can achieve the effect of lateral support reinforcement with small lateral support forces in the outdoor loading test. This study proposes the preliminary design guidelines for the scaffolding structural design.
Background: This systematic analysis was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of cantharidin combined with chemotherapy in treating Chinese patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Methods: Clinical studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of cantharidin combined with chemotherapy on response and safety for Chinese patients with colorectal cancer were identified using a predefined search strategy. Pooled response rate (RR) of treatment were calculated. Results: When cantharidin combined with chemotherapy, 4 clinical studies which included 155 patients with advanced colorectal cancer were considered eligible for inclusion. The systematic analysis suggested that, in all patients, pooled RR was 46.5% (72/155) in cantharidin combined regimens. Major adverse effects were neutropenia, leukopenia, fatigue, and anemia with cantharidin combined treatment; no treatment related deaths occurred. Conclusion: This systematic analysis suggests that cantharidin combined regimens are associated with high response rate and accepted toxicity in treating Chinese patients with metastatic colorectal cancer suggesting that randomized clinical trials are now warranted.
When developing a combined DTaP-HepB vaccine, toxicity and HBsAg immunogenicity are both important considerations. Thus, for a combined DTaP-HepB vaccine with a low toxicity, the effect of the DTaP content and $Al(OH)_3$, gel concentration on the vaccine toxicity was investigated. Within the range studied, the higher the concentrations, the higher the vaccine toxicity. The importance of the tetanus toxoid content in the combined DTaP-HepB vaccine was also revealed. A higher concentration of the tetanus toxoid was found to have a negative effect on the stability of the HBsAg immunogenicity in the combined vaccine. Accordingly, considering the factors affecting toxicity and HBsAg immunogenicity, a novel DTaP-HepB vaccine (30 Lf/ml of diphtheria toxoid, 5 Lf/ml of tetanus toxoid, 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$ PN/ml of acellular pertussis, 24 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml of HBsAg, and 500 $\mu\textrm{g}$ Al/ml of $Al(OH)_3$ gel) was developed. It has a low toxicity and a stable HBsAg immunogenicity and also satisfies the potency criteria of K-FDA for a combined DTaP vaccine.
