The performance-based design is highlighted as an alternative for the current design method, which cannot definitely specify the performance level that a building requires. Research on it is already in progress, however, in developed countries like the United States and Japan, to establish the basis for a performance-based design. Many studies on such design are also being conducted in South Korea, but South Korea still lags behind other countries in all-around technology. On the other hand, the column members, especially the lower external column, are affected by the variation of the axial force by overturning the moments in the case of lateral loads by earthquake. Varying the axial force can affect the time of local buckling and the ultimate behavior. Thus, in this study, the structural performance, such as the time of local buckling and the ultimate behavior, was analyzed through an experimental study on column members under varying axial force. The feasibility of a domestic study proposing a performance level with a story drift angle formed about a structural-performance-based steel structure design was also verified.
The objective of seismic resilience is to maintain or rapidly restore the function of a building after an earthquake. An efficient tilt mechanism at the member level is crucial for the restoration of the main structure function; however, the damage resistance of the members should be the main focus. In this study, through a comparison with the classical Flamant theory of local loading in the elastic half-space, an elastomechanical solution for the axial-stress distribution of a reinforced-concrete (RC) rocking column was derived. Furthermore, assuming that the lateral displacement of the rocking column is determined by the contact surface rotation angle of the column end and bending and shear deformation of the column body, the load-lateral displacement mechanical model of the RC rocking column was established and validated through a comparison with finite-element simulation results. The axial-compression ratio and column-end strength were analyzed, and the results indicated that on the premise of column damage resistance, simply increasing the axial-compression ratio increases the lateral loading capacity of the column but is ineffective for improving the lateral-displacement capacity. The lateral loading and displacement of the column are significantly improved as the strength of the column end material increases. Therefore, it is feasible to improve the working performance of RC rocking columns via local reinforcement of the column end.

Green Frame is a method for Rahmen structure construction composed of composite PC members. The composite PC members of Green Frame which are based on in-situ production can reduce the construction cost and are more likely to secure quality when compared to production in factories. Previous studies developed forms for in-situ production of Green Frame composite PC members and proposed algorithms to arrange them on site. However, it requires not only their arrangement, but also calculation of an accurate production period to produce the required PC members in a limited space and supply them in a timely manner. In particular, it is necessary to clearly define the properties of detailed processes for in-situ production of PC members and to calculate the time required for respective process. To do so, this study is a basic research on calculating the time for in-situ production using a linear scheduling method.
The effective length factor of a framed column may be determined by means of the alignment chart procedure. This method is based on many unrealistic assumptions, among which is that all columns have the same stiffness parameter, which is dependent on the length, axial load, and moment of inertia of the column. A new approximate method is developed for the determination of effective length factors for columns in unbraced frames. This method takes into account the effects of inelastic column behaviour, far end conditions of the restraining beams and columns, semi-rigid beam-to-column connections, and differentiated stiffness parameters of columns. This method may be implemented on a microcomputer. A numerical study was carried out to demonstrate the extent to which the involved parameters affect the K factor. The beam-to-column connection stiffness, the stiffness parameter of columns, and the far end conditions of restraining members have a significant effect on the K factor of the column under investigation. The developed method is recommended for design purposes.
Three-story Stone pagodas in Gameunsa Temple site, one of the early staged stone pagodas, has been known as a standard of Silla stone pagodas. A stone pagoda is not only a stone art work and but also a stone architecture. In understanding the stone pagoda it is very important to be approached with technological side in which we can investigate the stone pagoda deeply and as well as to have been approached with art historical view. Also it needs that we should see the stone pagoda in view of structural safety. We can get many high technique from our ancestors who made Gameunsajiseoktap. 1. To reduce any deformation such as relaxation and sinking of members which is caused by a heavy load the members such as the lower tier of the base is made up of the foundation stone and side stone in each, comprising one stone. 2. A special construction method for connection between wall stone and column stone in stereobates was invented. It is to make column stone projected partially and wall stone be caved in that two members should be jointed well. This unique method is not used any longer after the three-story Stone pagodas in Gameunsa Temple Site. 3. In each side upper and lower member are not engaged as the size of roof stones and support stones of roof stones are different. It can be done for a distribution of perpendicular load and a prevention for relaxation of members. 4. It makes sure that to make upper ends of support stones 10mm lower was to be avoid upper loads to it judging from survey in disassemblying east pagoda. It proves that ancestors who made this stone pagoda had a technique to understand the structural matters to make small members as big as possible, not to engage in joint, to avoid in ends of members from upper load.
Presence of torsional loadings can significantly affect the flow of internal forces and deformation capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) columns. It increases the possibility of brittle shear failure leading to catastrophic collapse of structural members. This necessitates accurate prediction of the torsional behaviour of RC members for their safe design. However, a review of previously published studies indicates that the torsional behaviour of RC members has not been studied in as much depth as the behaviour under flexure and shear in spite of its frequent occurrence in bridge columns. Very few analytical models are available to predict the response of RC members under torsional loads. Softened truss model (STM) developed in the University of Houston is one of them, which is widely used for this purpose. The present study shows that STM prediction is not sufficiently accurate particularly in the post cracking region when compared to test results. An improved analytical model for RC square columns subjected to torsion with and without axial compression is developed. Since concrete is weak in tension, its contribution to torsional capacity of RC members was neglected in the original STM. The present investigation revealed that, disregard to tensile strength of concrete is the main reason behind the discrepancies in the STM predictions. The existing STM is extended in this paper to include the effect of tension stiffening for better prediction of behaviour of square RC columns under torsion. Three different tension stiffening models comprising a linear, a quadratic and an exponential relationship have been considered in this study. The predictions of these models are validated through comparison with test data on local and global behaviour. It was observed that tension stiffening has significant influence on torsional behaviour of square RC members. The exponential and parabolic tension stiffening models were found to yield the most accurate predictions.

Green Frame is a building frame system to construct a column-beam structure using composite precast concrete members. To reduce the cost of producing precast concrete, in-situ production of members is required. However, when the structural members are produced on site, it needs a large space for production. So, "Just-In-Time" production method should be adopted. For Just-In-Time to be realized, the early strength of members should be ensured for them to be transported. Thus, steam curing to secure the early strength is applied in Green Frame. Yet, a large-scale steam curing system is not possible for in-situ production of precast concrete. A smaller steam curing system is needed. In this regard, the study is aimed to develop a new steam curing method applicable to the in-situ production of precast concrete.

The primary objective of this study is to make a contribution to the construction of 40~60 story R/C high rise building by developing the reinforcing details which can improve the seismic performance of high-strength (f'c=700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, fy=4000, 8000kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) R/C beam-column joints. And the purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the effect of load history on the total energy dissipation capacity of reinforced concrete flexural members. The reinforcing details which can make beam plastic hinging zones moved and spreaded from the column face is proposed to insure the ductile behavior of high-strength RC beam-column joints. The intermediate reinforcement which is horizontally anchored by interlinking each intermediate reinforcements is proposed and tested to examine the mechanical performance of proposed details. Main variables are the shape of the intermediate reinforcements and yield strength of rebars. From the test results, the newly proposed intermediate reinforcement details can move and spread the beam plastic hinging zone about 1.0d from the column face.

In the design of ductile moment-resisting frames (DMRFs) following the strong column-weak beam dsign philosophy, it is desirable that the joint and column remain essentially elastic in order to insure proper energy dissipation and lateral stability of the structure. The joint has been identified as the "weak link" in DMRFs because any stiffness or strength deterioration in this region can lead to substantial drifts and the possibility of collapse due to P-delta effects. Moreover, the engineer is faced with the difficult task of detailing an element whose size is determined by the framing members, but which must resist a set of loads very different from those used in the design of the beams and columns. Four 2/3-scale beam-column-slab joint assemblies were designed according to existing code requirements of ACI 318-89, representing interior joints of DMRFs with reinforced high strength concrete. The influence on aseismic behavior of beam-column joints due to monolithic slab, has been investigated.estigated.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of column spacing and beam size on the lateral displacement and shear lag phenomenon in bundled tube system. According to the parametric study in which the spacing of columns, the size of columns and girders in bundled tube were selected as a parameter, it is the most efficient to increase the size of the interior columns with the largest reduction of lateral drift if the steel tonnage of a frame can be increased. It was noticed that the shear lag was affected more by the exterior stiffness factor and ratio than by the interior ones when column spacing was changed, and when the size of column was changed, the reverse phenomenon was happened. And The change of column spacing affected shear lag, lateral drift, and tonnage more than that of column size or girder size.
