Estimation of surface color with use of subjective feeling: On the influence of contrast by complementary color

  • The unique colors of paper, that is, blue, green, red, and yellow were used in the estimation of color from the subjective feeling. The monochrome with unique color or the unique color surrounded with the background color was presented. Subject gazed the monochrome or the unique color, which was called target color. The target and background color were the complementary color each other. The various ratios of the area of gazed color and background were taken. Subject answered the level of subjective feeling consisted of pair of adjective items for unique color presented. With the use of the subjective feeling fer the target color presented, the estimation of the unique color was carried out due to Fuzzy theory and neural networks. The results of color difference between unique color presented and the estimated color gave very small value for the case without background, while the results of the case with background color depended on the ratio of area of presented color and background color till the ration of 2:1, The relation showed the Kirschman's law. The color difference saturated in the increase of area of background with the ratio more than 2:1.

  • In this paper, we present a new LED (Light Emitting Diode) mood lighting system interacting with smartphones based on the generation of different light sequences. In the proposed system, one light sequence is considered to be one unit of the service contents, which is then transmitted through a network and played in an LED lighting system. To this end, we propose a novel generation scheme using a smartphone, and a decoding/playing mechanism in an LED lighting system. The lighting sequences have a fixed period divided into predefined time units. Two modes - basic and interpolation - are supported in each time unit when playing a color sequence. In the basic mode, the color is maintained for the entire time unit, whereas in the interpolation mode the color is interpolated. The sequence is decoded and played in the lighting circuit by changing the duty cycle of a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal. A demonstration system of the overall proposed method was using smartphones, a server and an LED lighting system. The results from this experiment show the validity and applicability of the proposed scheme.

조선중기 일상복의 색상연구(I)-16.17세기 출토복식 중심- (A Study on the color of Daily Clothes of middle Era of the Chosun Dynasty)

  • This study investigates the color of daily clothes of middle era of Yi dynasty by examining the color of excavated clothing which was the real clothes in 16th and 17th centuries. The purposes of this study lie in understanding emotional feeling observed by exact measurement of the color of the excavated and devising a method of reserving the color of the excavated by inspecting the discolored color of the excavated. For this, the color difference was measured by color measuring system. Minolta Chroma-meter, and then recorded in L*a*b system. The 3-dimensional color difference was observed by analyzing these data on Methmetica and change in color with ageing was assessed by reconstructing the color by Phoposhop. The color construction of daily clothes of middle era of the Chosun Dynasty was founded on a philosophy, and it was made up of colors such as white, brown, and blue. This color construction seemed to be based on the philosophy of naturalism symbolizing surrounding nature, e.g., white symbolizes Bak-sasang(bak-philosophy) and blue implies Eumyangohangsul.

현대건축의 은유적 색채체계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Metaphorical Color System in Contemporary Architecture)

  • Rapid social changes and scientific advances of the $21^{th}c$ have brought on a major paradigm shift towards consilience, making boundaries more or less irrelevant. In the field of architecture, this is manifested in the emergence of colors that can be described as 'being aleatory', 'non-formal', 'non-deterministic' and 'perpetually evolving'. Contemporary architectural colors are not definitively fixed. They are rather liquid and metaphorical. Whereas the more traditional architectural colors have delivered clearly and precisely the intended symbolic meaning and visual information, those of today are less definitive and embody a more liquid and conceptual value system. This paper discusses the denoted signification and the meaning effect of the metaphorical color system found in contemporary architecture. This paper analyzes works of architecture from the late 20th century, when dramatic change sin architectural color system surfaced, to the more contemporary creations. Here, three categories of color are suggested, namely material color, spatial color and liquid color. Each categories considered in connection with deconstruction, holistic interactivity and the multiplicity of meanings that may result as information from the external world is perceived as stimulus to the inner mind. Contemporary architectural color scheme is characterized by its unpredictable vagueness of meaning, synesthetic engagement of imagination and chance, and expansion of the inner and outer world, all of which contribute to a metaphorical effect. The metaphorical color system of contemporary architecture can be classified into three dimensions, and it connects with human consciousness and amplifies itself through flexible and fluid communication. In this process non-physical colors materially serve as formal logic and room for varied interpretation of architectural space and our conceptual framework.

  • This paper describes a method of estimating miniature train location by color vision for development of an intelligent railway system model. In the teal world, to control trains automatically, GPS(Global Positioning System) is indispensable to determine the location of trains. A color vision system was used for estimating the location of trains in an indoor experiment. Two different rectangular color bars were attached to the top of each train as a means of identifying them. Several trains were detected where they were located on the track by color feature, geometric features and moment invariant, and tracked simultaneously. In the experiment the identity, location and direction of each train were estimated and transferred to the control computer using serial communication. Processing speed of up to 8 frames/sec could be achieved, which was enough speed for the real-time train control.

퍼스널컬러의 정량적 진단 모델 연구 (A Study on the Quantitative Diagnosis Model of Personal Color)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 퍼스널컬러를 정량적으로 진단할 수 있는 모델을 구축하는 것이다. 현재 사용되고 있는 대표적인 퍼스널컬러용 색채 시스템들은 퍼스널컬러 진단 유형을 지나치게 단순화하거나, 진단 유형간의 객관화된 차이를 구별하기 어렵다는 한계를 가진다. 이를 보완한 새로운 색채 시스템을 개발하기 위해 논리적 배색이 가능한 PCCS 색체계를 도입하고, 색이 가지는 주요 4속성을 토대로 재분류하였다. 기존 색채 시스템보다 다양한 20개의 진단 유형을 제안하였으며, 정량적 방법을 피험자와의 어울림 정도를 평가하여 최적화된 유형을 찾을 수 있게 하였다. 평가 결과를 기호화하여 대입하면 피험자에게 맞는 유형이 도출되는 매트릭스를 고안하여 실험자의 개별 역량과 주관의 개입을 최소화하였다. 최종적으로 속성진단, 기호화, 계절진단의 세 단계로 이루어진 퍼스널컬러의 정량적 진단 모델을 구축하였다. 이는 기존 진단 방법에 다양성, 신뢰성, 정확성을 부여할 것이라 볼 수 있다.

  • 한국유행색산업협회에서는 1997년 국내 패션업계를 비롯하여 디자인 전반에서 사용할 수 있는 활용색 모음 제작인 COS칼라시스템을 개발하였다. 본 연구는 이 COS 칼라 시스템이 실내디자인 분야에 있어 활용될 수 있는지를 실내마감재 측색을 통해 실증적으로 검증해 보고자 하였다. 또한 실내 디자인 분야에서 표준화된 상용색 표집으로서 활용될 수 있도록 실내색채 중 COS에 포함시켜야 할 색채의 범위를 제안하고자 하였다. 실내마감재의 측색결과, 목재나 석재 등의 자연소재에서 나타나는 YR 및 Y계열의 고명도, 저채도의 색들이 많이 나타났는데, COS는 이러한 계통의 다양한 색들을 포함하고 있지 않았다. 반면, NCS는 천연 소재 및 그 대용품에서 볼 수 있는 색들을 매우 다양하게 포함하고 있어 COS에 비해 실내 색채를 표현하기에 용이했다. 그러므로 COS가 섬유패션분야 뿐만 아니라 실내디자인 분야에서 환경색채를 계획, 평가하고자 할 때 유용한 도구로 활용되기 위해서는 실내 색채의 범위를 모두 포함한 환경색채용 COS가 추가로 개발되어야 할 것이다. COS에 포함되어 있지 않은 색들을 NCS 체계로 파악하여 색상, 명도, 채도 순으로 나열하여 보면, 색상의 경우 노랑색 계열(Y, YR), 녹색계열(GY), 청색계열(PB, B, BG) 등이 많았으며, 명도의 경우에는 6-9.5와 같이 밝고, 채도에 있어서는 1-4 정도의 저채도의 색채가 유난히 부족하였다. 이와 같이 실내디자인 분야에서는 다양한 실내색채들이 추가로 파악되었으며, 이러한 범위의 색들을 앞으로의 COS에 추가되어야 할 색채의 범위로 제안하였다.

기층문화를 통한 한국복식의 색채 특성 연구 (The Characteristics of Color on Korean Costume by Basic Culture)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine a unique characteristic of the colors of the costumes in Korean basic culture in the aim of seeking the characteristics and the conceptual meanings of colors found in the majority’s culture. The scope of the basic culture was divided into folk belief, folk game and folk play. Within these limits, the colors of the dress, accessories, instruments were extracted by comparing with the naked eye in NCS Color System. For the analysis of hue and tone, the secondary dimensional analysis using NCS color system and the three-dimensional analysis using the software, COLOR 3D Version 2.0, were done. The result of this investigation is that the colors of the costume in the Korean basic culture are white, gray and black of achromatic color and yellow, yellowish red and purplish blue. This confirms that the colors based on Five-elements color are becoming the basis too basic culture. And Arche-pattern, which is a characteristic commonly found in the Korean traditional society, was shown as a characteristic of color. The colors of the costumes in Korean basic culture are uniquely adopted by the Korean civilians according to their religious and philosophical living standard. This study is meaningful in seeking a root for the formation of their unique color culture.
