In this paper we focused on the color representation prob1em based on fuzzy set theory. The main factor is the determination or computation of color membership function and color difference formula. The mathematical formula to calculate the color difference should generate a uniform color scaling, and due to this reason we adopted a CIELAB color- space as a fundamental feature space. With the help of the CIELAB color space we created a new color model, referred to fuzzy color model, which can represent the ambiguous characteristics underlying colors. Based on the proposed color difference formula between fuzzy colors, we could obtain the membership computation method of an arbitrary color for a given color family.
Perceptibility and acceptability are the most often used threshold units in the field of color science. The former refers to a just perceptible difference and the latter evokes a tolerable color difference. Such thresholds can be very significant to color quality control processes in the printing industry and should be defined in quality measure units. Optical density (OD) and color difference models are usually utilized as color quality measures and have been provided in a considerable number of commercial measuring devices such as spectrophotometers. However, their merits and traits are far less understood in the literature. The present study intends to evaluate performance of those color quality measures including the OD and widely known color difference models, e.g. ${\Delta}E{^*}_{ab}$, ${\Delta}E_{CMC(l:c)}$ and ${\Delta}E{^*}_{00}$. A set of psychophysical assessments were carried out in order to accumulate the perceptibility and acceptability thresholds data, and their central trend was compared with the color quality measure estimates.

The color appearance of a yarn-dyed woven fabric depends on the color of the yarn as well as on the weave structure. Predicting the final color appearance or formulating the recipe is a difficult task, considering the interference of colored yarns and structure variations. In a modern fabric design process, the intended color appearance is attained through a digital color methodology based on numerous color data and color mixing recipes (i.e., color prediction models, accumulated in CAD systems). For successful color reproduction, accurate color prediction models should be devised and equipped for the systems. In this study, the final colors of yarn-dyed woven fabrics were predicted using six geometric-color mixing models (i.e., simple K/S model, log K/S model, D-G model, S-N model, modified S-N model, and W-O model). The color differences between the measured and the predicted colors were calculated to evaluate the accuracy of various color models used for different weave structures. The log K/S model, D-G model, and W-O model were found to be more accurate in color prediction of the woven fabrics used. Among these three models, the W-O model was found to be the best one as it gave the least color difference between the measured and the predicted colors.

Recently. color proofing in printing industry grow rapidly. If an order decide color from known color information in the case of color reproduction, we can reduce expenses and time. In color proofing the best important point must be closed proofed color to primary color and secondary color. Model-based approaches have the advantages of faster recharacterization and the opportunity of simulating product enhancements such as changes in ink properties and halftoning. In this paper, we transformed the dot area of CMYK to CIELAB color space using color reproduction models. Firstly, we measured spectral reflectance of primary color printed by Matchprint II and the data was used to find tone reproduction curve using regression equation, and than we applied at primary color model, such as Murray-Davies, Yule-Nilsen, and mixed color model, such as Kubelka-Munk, relaxed version of spectral Neugebauer. In such results, the Kubelka-Munk model resulted in the best spectral reconstruction accuracy followed by relaxed version of spectral Neugebauer model, color difference is 2.8401.

For recipe prediction of colorant proportion showing nonlinear behavior, we modeled the effects of colorant proportion of basic colors on the target colors and predicted colorant proportion necessary for making target colors. First, colorant proportion of basic colors and color information indicated by the instrument was applied by a linear model and a multi-layer perceptrons model with back-propagation learning method. However, satisfactory results were not obtained because of nonlinear property of colors. Thus, in this study the neuro-fuzzy model with merit of artificial neural networks and fuzzy systems was presented. The proposed model was trained with test data and colorant proportion was predicted. The effectiveness of the proposed model was verified by evaluation of color difference(${\Delta}E$).

This research investigated the effect of individual yarn colors on the perception of overall colors of yarn-dyed woven fabrics. The way the colors of yarn-dyed woven fabrics are perceived is known as visual color mixing: when the different colored yarns juxtaposed on the fabric surface are observed from some distance away, they are visually mixed in our eyes and perceived as a solid color. However, we can still see individual yarn colors that make the fabrics look obviously different from actual solid colors. To quantify this visual color mixing effect, twenty-one sateen fabrics were produced in a wide range of colors using cyan, magenta, and yellow yarns, and the colors were measured instrumentally. The obtained colorimetric values were converted into solid color images on a CRT monitor. Then, the physical fabrics were scanned, and the scanned images were displayed on the monitor with solid color images in pairs for visual color difference evaluation. The woven and solid colors in each pair were of physically identical color; however, the visual color difference was as large as $4.81{\Delta}{E^*}_{ab}$ on average. A visual color difference model was proposed by considering this parametric effect of individual yarn colors.
A colour-difference formulae would be based on a colour appearance model, but, So far, most colour-difference formulae in common use are based on empirical fits to data. Therefore, of the many proposed, none are completely satisfactory but advances have been made in recent years. A new color-difference data set has been produced with the aims of making a comparison of the advanced CIE Lab formulae as well as confirming the effect of color-difference. 416 low lightness pairs that have only lightness-difference were produced for evaluation of CIE Lab-based formulae on lightness-difference from glossy polyester fabric. The standard color-difference pair was prepared and used. It was neutral grey sample pair that has only lightness difference. The standard pair was used to investigate lightness tolerances. And grey-scale method used to evaluate visual assessment. CIE Lab coordinates of the samples were measured using a X-Rite 8200 spectrophotometer. Visual assessments were carried out using Gretag Macbeth The Judge II Light Booth. A study of color tolerances at low lightness was carried out and get avaliable some results.
This study is aimed to identify the color characteristics of the current Korean Brand Apartment, focused on the color of kitchens and dining rooms in the cyber model houses. The Brands which were selected for this study ranked from first to fifth in the contractor ranking and now account for 64 percent of the apartments in sale in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. In addition, the size between $99m^2$ and $165m^2$ were selected, because it was most preferred at the 2011 survey for user preference on the size of apartment. As this study is for the colors shown on the monintor, colors were extracted from the images of web site with L*, a*, b*. And then, they were converted to Munsell values through computer program, which values were used to identify the color characteristics of hue, tone and to apply the theory of Moon Spencer. The result of the study on the color characteristics of the kitchen and dining room of the five brands' apartments is as follows. Regarding the color use, most of the brands used Y and YR color while as the accent color, P, PB and G were used. This result of main color use for hue was same as the guideline by the literature review, but color for tone showed the difference between brands and the difference between sizes. Next, regarding the color combination, first ambiguity of color harmony was shown the most. And the larger the size was, the more the contrast of color harmony was shown. It means that the color tone had close relation with the sizes of households.
The color of an esthetic restorative material is controlled primarily by thickness of the material and background color. Although the effects of the two factors on the color coordinates of esthetic dental materials have been reported, the mechanism has not been clarified well enough to explain the effects quantitatively. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of thickness and background color on the color of tooth colored restorative materials quantitatively. One hundred sixty samples were fabricated from two commercial light-cured composite resins and two commercial compomers. The color characteristics and changes in the color coordinates were measured by a tristimulus colorimeter (Model TC-6FX, Tokyo Denshoku Co. Japan) using the CIELAB system. The results were as follows: 1. As thickness increased from 1.0 to 4.0mm, values of $L^*$$a^*$$b^*$ changed irregulary for white and dentin color background, but showed no obvious difference in color for black background. 2. The colors of composite resins and compomers were significantly influenced by background color. 3. The color difference was recognized even the same shade name in four representative kinds of composite resins and compomers. 4. As thickness changed, values of color difference for same products and same background color showed constancy, but showed difference for different background color.
