  • When we want to retrieve the most similar image from the image database, the color histogram intersection, shape feature and texture feature comparing method are used as a metric to measure the similarity. In order to increase the accuracy of retrievals, we need to integrate two different features. In this paper, the histogram intersection and shape based block histogram intersection method are used. This method results in a high efficient algorithm that meets a similar accuracy and a relatively fast retrieval speed compared to the method of integration of two different features. The Proposed algorithm is tested on retrievals of image database consisting of various 600 images and we implemented that the proposed algorithm gives fast, high efficiency and reliability compared to others.

  • This study proposes a method for segmentation and recognition of traffic signs using shape information and edge image in real image. It first segments traffic sign candidate regions by connected component algorithm from binary images, obtained by utilizing the RGB color ratio of each pixel in the image, and then extracts actual traffic signs based on their symmetries on X- and Y-axes. Histogram equalization is performed for unsegmented candidate regions caused by low contrast in the image. In the recognition stage, it utilizes shape information including projection profiles on X- and Y-axes, moment, and the number of crossings and distance which concentric circular patterns and 8-directional rays from region center intersects with edges of traffic signs. It finally performs recognition by measuring similarity with the templates in the database. It will be shown from several experimental results that the system is robust to environmental factors, such as light and weather condition.

  • Objectives : This study is to check the quality of Moschus products in Korean markets using a chromatographic analysis. Methods : We collected musk products, two genuine products from Russia (A, B), two authentic products from Hong Kong (C) and Korea (D), the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) standard (E), and two fire ants products (E, F). Results : For identification, TLC analysis of 60% ethanol extracts of each product showed that A, B, C, and E have the suitable patterns before color development at 365 nm UV light for the MFDS regulation in Korea. A clear red spot was observed from the E at Rf 0.6 with 365 nm UV light after color development, but this spot was not found in A and B. For the purity test, a distinct violet spot with Rf 0.87 was observed from the A and B in TLC analysis of methanol extracts of each product at white light, however, this spot was not matched with the impurities of E and F. In HPLC-UV pattern analysis, a similar peak pattern was shown in A, B and E, and similar peaks were observed C, although the similarity was weaker than that of A, B, and E. The F and G showed different peak patterns compared with the peak patterns of other samples. Conclusions : Hence, it is considered that the test methods need flexibility in application for identification and purity test depending on the type of sample.

  • Mutation breeding is useful for improving agronomic characteristics of various crops. In this study, we constructed soybean Mutant Diversity Pool (MDP) from 1,695 gamma-irradiated mutants through two selection phases over M1 to M12 generations; we selected 523 mutant lines exhibiting at least 30% superior agricultural characteristics, and, second, we eliminated redundant morphological phenotypes in the M12 generation. Finally, we constructed 208 MDP lines and investigated 11 agronomic traits. We then assessed the genetic diversity and inter-relationships of these MDP lines using target region amplification polymorphism (TRAP) markers. Among the different TRAP primer combinations, polymorphism levels and PIC values averaged 59.71% and 0.15, respectively. Dendrogram and population structure analyses divided the MDP lines into four major groups. According to an analysis of AMOVA, the percentage of inter-population variation among mutants was 11.320 (20.6%), whereas mutant inter-population variation ranged from 0.231 (0.4%) to 14.324 (26.1%). Overall, the genetic similarity of each cultivar and its mutants were higher than within other mutant populations. In an analysis of the genome-wide association study (GWAS) using based on the genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS), we detected 66 SNPs located on 13 different chromosomes were found to be highly associated with four agronomic traits: days of flowering (33 SNPs), flower color (16 SNPs), node number (6 SNPs), and seed coat color (11 SNPs). These results are consistent with those previously reported for other genetic resource populations, including natural accessions and recombinant inbred line. Our observations suggest that genomic changes in mutant individuals induced by gamma rays occurred at the same loci as those of natural soybean population. This study has demonstrated that the integration of GBS and GWAS can serve as a powerful complementary approach to gamma-ray mutation for the dissection of complex traits in soybean.

  • Soft tissue expansion is widely used technique in oral & maxillofacial reconstruction and provide new method of reconstruction in posttraumatic alopecia, post burn, wide scar, congenital deformity, benign tumor, tattoo, etc. Expanded tissue flaps have the advantage of increased vascularity, proximity to the defect, and similarity of color and texture. They also preclude the need to advance flaps from distant sites. Tissue expansion can be used to form a well vascularized cavity to accomodate and nourish bone grafts. The following report describes the uses of tissue expanders by allowing bone grafting to correct both soft and bony defects of mandibular region

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the characteristics of Chinese minority women's waistbands, in view of their lifestyle, costume, and symbolism. The research method combined literature research and case study. In the case study, this research targeted the secondary data of a total of 215 pieces from books, articles and the internet. A total of 5 pieces per each representative women's waistband of 43 minorities, excluding those who did not wear a waistband, we collected. We then quantitatively analyzed the form and decoration of the waistbands. As a result of considering the form, the waistbands of Chinese minorities per region were closely related to the costumes, mainly showing high similarity in respect to color and decoration. Moreover, the decorations of the waistbands were most often made from their own area's special products, such as silver, bronze, cotton, and linen, amongst other. The form and decoration of the Chinese minority women's waistbands were all connected with functionality, aesthetic impression, and symbolism, which can be said to be an important part of understanding Chinese minority costume culture. This research contributes to the development and preservation of Chinese minorities' costume culture by considering and analyzing unique costume factors besides giving excellent fashion design ideas for contemporary fashion.

  • Multispectral scanner data collected by LANDSAT-1 over the mid West Sea of Korea were analyzed and interpreted for delineation of coastal features and turbidity distribution patterns during different portions of the tidal cycle. Imagery from two successful LANDSAT-1 overpasses of the area in October 1972 and in October 1973 had been used to prepare schematic maps of coastal features and turbidity distributions. Color composite imagery of LANDSAT MSS 4, 5 and 7 gave the best representation of shorelines, coastlines and tidal flats. MSS 5 imagery was most effective in differentiating relative turbidity levels through density slicing techniques. Referring to the tidal power development of Garolim Bay, the basin area measurements assuming dyke construction at the bay entrance, have been carried out on the coastal reature maps comiled from LANDSAT imagery, and those results were correlated with existing data. General areal patterns of surface turbidity distribution in the study area revealed close similarity with bathymetry of the area. Synoptic circulation patterns were also well discriminated from the LANDSAT imagery using the suspended sediment as a tracer.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the origin of make-up and the beginning of 'Yoenji' cosmetics. The result of this study is as follows: 1. The origin of make-up can be summarized as being originated from the sexual display to maintain tribes and incantatory religion for their existence. The reason for the preference to Yeonji in make-up is that Yeonji has a characteristic of red in color, which seems to hold effective for the sexual display of human beings. 2. The origin of Yeonji (焉支; Safflower) was from Egypt, but its inception as a cosmetic product was with Huns. 'Yeonji' was a term of Hungro race, and was also called Unji (焉支), Yeonji (燕支), Inji (姻支), Urji (閼氏), following the similarity of the sound. These terms were not only the interpretation of the Hunnish sound into Chinese, but also allegorical expression. Unji (焉支), Yeonji (燕支), and Inji (姻支) meant Safflower. Urji(閼氏) meant 'Empress' or 'Wife,' which was pronounced Yeonji (燕支) and Asi (閼氏).
