A Robust Depth Map Upsampling Against Camera Calibration Errors (카메라 보정 오류에 강건한 깊이맵 업샘플링 기술)

  • Recently, fusion camera systems that consist of depth sensors and color cameras have been widely developed with the advent of a new type of sensor, time-of-flight (TOF) depth sensor. The physical limitation of depth sensors usually generates low resolution images compared to corresponding color images. Therefore, the pre-processing module, such as camera calibration, three dimensional warping, and hole filling, is necessary to generate the high resolution depth map that is placed in the image plane of the color image. However, the result of the pre-processing step is usually inaccurate due to errors from the camera calibration and the depth measurement. Therefore, in this paper, we present a depth map upsampling method robust these errors. First, the confidence of the measured depth value is estimated by the interrelation between the color image and the pre-upsampled depth map. Then, the detailed depth map can be generated by the modified kernel regression method which exclude depth values having low confidence. Our proposed algorithm guarantees the high quality result in the presence of the camera calibration errors. Experimental comparison with other data fusion techniques shows the superiority of our proposed method.

A Study on the License Plate Recognition Using Color Information (Color Information을 이용한 자동차 번호판 영역 추출에 관한 연구)

  • 자동차 번호판 인식 시스템은 크게 세 부분으로 나뉘어 질 수 있는데 그 첫 부분이 Camera를 통해서 획득된 영상에서 번호판 영역을 추출하는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 자가용과 영업용 번호판의 배경이 모두 다른 부분과 차이를 가지고 있다는 점을 이용하여 번호판 영역 추출을 위하여 기존의 방법과 달리 Color 정보를 이용하였다. Edge 검출이나 Gray level의 변화값을 이용하지 않고 Color 정보를 이용함으로써 번호판이 구부러진 영상이나 Noise를 통해서 훼손된 영상, Contrast가 낮은 영상에도 영역 추출에 강한 성능을 나타내었다. Camera를 통해서 획득된 RGB 영상을 YCbCr Format으로 바꾸고 그 중 Cb와 Cr 정보를 이용하여 번호판 영역을 검출하고 인증과정을 거쳐서 추출된 영상이 실제로 번호판 영상인지를 확인하는 단계를 거쳤다. 실험을 통하여 주간, 야간 및 훼손되거나 Noise가 많이 발생한 영상에서도 강한 성능을 나타냄을 볼 수 있었다.

  • In modern days, many of the images are captured by using various devices, such as PDA, digital camera, or cell phone camera. Because all these devise have a limited dynamic range, images captured in real world scenes with high dynamic ranges usually exhibit poor visibility and low contrast, which may make important image features lost or hard to tell by human viewers. In this paper, the efficient color image enhancement method is presented. Experimental result show that the proposed method yields better performance of color enhancement over the previous work for test color images.

  • This paper presents a novel histogram and color information based algorithm for detecting and tracking multiple pedestrians from a moving camera. In the proposed method, RGB color histogram is used to detect adjacent pedestrians and RGB mean value is used to track detected pedestrians. Therefore, our algorithm detect contiguous or a few occluded pedestrians and track in case pedestrian's shape change. The experimental results on our test sequences demonstrate the high efficiency of our method.

  • Photogrammetry is one of the most important sources of GIS application. Nowadays, color photos are used and camera is integrated with GPS/INS sensors. However the photos are still taken from analogue camera and scanned for digital image.   • In this paper we propose an efficient marker tracking system that exploits IR and web cameras. The proposed method solves the marker swap problem and allows for fast and responsive marker tracking. We use color information gathered from the IR reflector to assign a unique identification to each marker. We can locate each marker withthe IR camera and also identify the marker uniquely by using color information provided by the web camera. The experiment results show that marker swapping can be eliminated effectively. Furthermore, our approach allows for faster and more responsive marker tracking.

  • Due to the growth of VR industry and rise of digital twin industry, the importance of implementing 3D data same as real space is increasing. However, the fact that it requires expertise personnel and huge amount of time is a problem. In this paper, we propose a system that generates point cloud data with same shape and color as a real space, just by scanning the space. The proposed system integrates 3D geometric information from lidar and color information from stereo camera into one point cloud. Since the number of 3D points generated by lidar is not enough to express a real space with good quality, some of the pixels of 2D image generated by camera are mapped to the correct 3D coordinate to increase the number of points. Additionally, to minimize the capacity, overlapping points are filtered out so that only one point exists in the same 3D coordinates. Finally, 6DoF pose information generated from lidar point cloud is replaced with the one generated from camera image to position the points to a more accurate place. Experimental results show that the proposed system easily and quickly generates point clouds very similar to the scanned space.

  • In this paper, we present a color interpolation technique based on artificial neural networks for a single-chip CCD (charge-coupled device) camera with a Bayer color filter array (CFA). Single-chip digital cameras use a color filter array and an interpolation method in order to regenerate high quality color images from sparsely sampled images. We applied 3-layer feedforward neural networks in order to interpolate missing pixel from surrounding pixels. And we compared the proposed method with conventional interpolation methods such as the proposed interpolation algorithm based on neural networks provides a better performance than the conventional interpolation algorithms.
