  • Physics simulation is an important part of many interactive 2D applications and collision detection and response is key component of this simulation. While methods for reducing the number of collision tests that need to be performed has been well researched, methods for performing the final checks with collision primitives have seen little recent development. This paper presents a new collision primitive, the n-arc, constructed from piecewise circular curves or biarcs. An algorithm for performing a collision check between these primitives is presented and compared to a convex polygon primitive. The n-arc is shown to exhibit similar, though slightly slower, performance to a polygon when no collision occurs, but is considerably faster when a collision does occur. The goodness of fit of the new primitive is also compared to a polygon. While the n-arc often gives a looser fit in terms of area, the continuous tangents of the n-arcs makes them a good choice for organic, soft or curved surfaces.

  • Collision avoidance is a fundamental and important task of an autonomous mobile robot for safe navigation in real environments with high uncertainty. Obstacles are classified into static and dynamic obstacles. It is difficult to avoid dynamic obstacles because the positions of dynamic obstacles are likely to change at any time. This paper proposes a scheme for vision-based avoidance of dynamic obstacles. This approach extracts object candidates that can be considered moving objects based on the labeling algorithm using depth information. Then it detects moving objects among object candidates using motion vectors. In case the motion vectors are not extracted, it can still detect the moving objects stably through their color information. A robot avoids the dynamic obstacle using the dynamic window approach (DWA) with the object path estimated from the information of the detected obstacles. The DWA is a well known technique for reactive collision avoidance. This paper also proposes an algorithm which autonomously registers the obstacle color. Therefore, a robot can navigate more safely and efficiently with the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, a method of using Software Defined Radio (SDR) is proposed for improving the accuracy of identifying two kinds of signals as Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) signal and Bluetooth signal at the same frequency band of 2.4 GHz based on the time-domain signal characteristic. An SDR device was set up for collecting transmitting signals from Wi-Fi access points (Wi-Fi) and mobile phones (Bluetooth). Different characteristics between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals were extracted from the measured result. The SDR device is programmed with a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth detection algorithm and a collision detection algorithm to detect and verify the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals based on collected IQ data. These methods are necessary for some applications like wireless communication optimization, Wi-Fi fingerprint localization, which helps to avoid interference and collision between two kinds of signals.

  • This paper propose a GPU-based N-body collision detection algorithm using LBVH (Linear Bounding Volume Hierarchy) technique. This algorithm introduces a new modified Morton code scheme where the codes use an information about how much each body takes a space in the screen space. This scheme improves the GPU sorting performance of the N-Body because it culls out invisible objects in natural manner. Through the experiments, we verifies that the proposed algorithms can have at least 15% performance improvement over the existing methods

  • In this paper, we present how we implement the low-level, triangle intersection routine in a massively parallel fashion using n VIDIA's new GPGPU language, CUDA. Triangle intersection often becomes a computational bottleneck in the collision detection problem. Due to the relatively low bandwidth between CPU and GPU, it has been challenging to implement efficient, object-space collision detection between triangle sets. However, thanks to the improved data transmission rates in CUDA architecture, in this paper, we improved the performance of triangle intersection substantially better than the optimized CPU counterpart.

  • Recently, intelligent transportation system based on image processing has been developed. In this paper, we propose a collision detection algorithm based on the analysis of motion vectors and the staying periods of vehicles in intersections. Objects in the region of interest are extracted from the subtraction image between background images based on Gaussian mixture model and input images. Collisions and traffic jams are detected by analysing measured motion vectors of vehicles and their staying periods in intersections. Experiments are performed on video sequences actually recoded at intersections. Correct detection rate and false alarm rate are 85.7% and 7.7%, respectively.

  • The Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA) 2.0 technology can establish a home network using existing in-home phone lines, which provides a channel rate of 4-32 Mbps. HomePNA 2.0 Medium Access Control(MAC) protocol adopts an IEEE 802.3 Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) access method, Quality of Service(QoS) algorithm, and Distributed Fair Priority Queuing(DFPQ) collision resolution algorithm. In this paper, we propose some mathematical models about the important elements of HomePNA 2.0 MAC protocol performance, which are Saturation Throughput, Packet Delay and Packet Jitter. Then, we present an overall performance analysis of HomePNA 2.0 MAC protocol along with simulations.

  • A heuristic sweeping algorithm for an autonomous smearing robot which executes the area filling task is proposed. This algorithm searches tracking points with the obstacle andenvironment wall while the robot tracking whole workspace, and finds sequential tracking line by sequentally connecting the tracking points in such a way that (1) the line should be never crossed, (2) the total tracking points should be is linked as short as possible, and (3) the tracking link should be cross over the obstacle in the work-space. If the line pass through the obstacle, hierarchical collision free algorithm proposed is implied. The proposed algorithm consists of (1) collision detection procedure, (2) obstacle map making procedures, (3) tracking points generation procedures for subgosls, (4) tracking points scanning procedures, and (5) obstacle avoidance procedure.

  • Many dynamic mechanical systems, such as parts-feeders, walking machines, and percussive power tools, are described by equations of motion which are discontinuous. The discontinuities result from kinematic constraint changes which are difficult to foresee, especially in presence of impact. A simulation algorithm for these types of systems must be able to algorithmically predict and detect the kinematic constraint changes without any prior knowledge of the system's motion. This paper presents a rule-based approach to the prediction and detection of kinematic constraint changes between bodies with arc and line boundaries. The developed algorithm's ability to accurately and automatically detect the unpredicted changes of kinematic constraints is demonstrated with a numerical example.

  • Advances in electronic and computer technologies have paved the way for the proliferation of WSN(wireless sensor networks). Accordingly, necessity of anti-collusion and authentication technology is increasing on the sensor network system. Some of the algorithm developed for the anti-collision sensor network can be easily adopted to wireless sensor network platforms and in the same time they can meet the requirements for sensor networks like: simple parallel distributed computation, distributed storage, data robustness and auto-classification of sensor readings. To achieve security in wireless sensor networks, it is important to be able to establish safely channel among sensor nodes. In this paper, we proposed the USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) channel establishment algorithm for sensor's authentication and anti-collision. Two different data aggregation architectures will be presented, with algorithms which use wavelet filter to establish channels among sensor nodes and BIBD (Balanced Incomplete Block Design) which use anti-collision methods of the sensors. As a result, the proposed algorithm based on BIBD and wavelet filter was made for 98% collision detection rate on the ideal environment.
