In the present work, 6061 Al-$B_4C$ sintered composites containing different $B_4C$ contents were fabricated and their characteristic were investigated as a function of sintering temperature. For this, composite powders and their compacts with $B_4C$ various contents from 0 to 40 wt.% were fabricated using a planetary ball milling equipment and cold isostatic pressing, respectively, and then they were sintered in the temperature ranges of 580 to $660^{\circ}C$. Above sintering temperature of $640^{\circ}C$, real density was decreased due to the occurrence of sweat phenomena. In addition, it was realized that sinterability of 6061Al-$B_4C$ composite material was lowered with increasing $B_4C$ content, resulting in the decrease in its real density and at the same time in the increment of porosity.
BaTiO3 sputtering targets of 3 inch diameter were prepared by sintering the CIP (Cold Isotatic Pressing) compacts at 136$0^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs. The apparent density and grain size were 97% and 30${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, respectively. After BaTiO3 films were deposited on Si and Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates using these targets, films were annealed at various conditions and the crystallization behavior, reaction with the substrate and the electrical properties were investigated. The films on both substrates required 5~20hrs furnace annealing for crystallization at the temperatures from $600^{\circ}C$ to 80$0^{\circ}C$. For the films on Si substrate, interaction between the film and the substrate was suppressed upt o $700^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs and the relative dielectric constant was 30. As the annelaing temperature and time were increased, the relative dielectric constants of the films decreased due to the formation of silicate phases through the reaction with the substrate. For the BaTiO3 films on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate, the reaction with the substrate was further reduced when the annealing condition was identical to that for Si substrate, but the reaction between the layers in Pt electrode took place above $700^{\circ}C$. When the films were annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ where the stability of Pt electrode was sustained, relative dielectric constant was increased to 110 since the reaction with substrate was effectively reduced even for a longer annealing time and the crystallization was enhanced.

$AB_2$ type Zr-based Laves phases alloys have been studied for potential application as a negative electrode in a Ni-MH battery. The $AB_2$-type electrodes have a much higher energy density than $AB_5$-type electrodes per weight, however they have some disadvantages such as poor activation behavior and cycle life etc. Nonetheless, the $AB_2$-type electrodes have been studied very extensively due to their high energy density. In this study, in order to develop the cycle life, the Mn of $AB_2$ alloy composition was substituted partially by Mo. The alloys were melted by arc furnace and remelted 4-5 times for homogeneity. The alloy powder was used below 200-325 mesh for experiments. The structures and phases of the alloys were analyzed by XRD, SEM and EDS, and measured the curve of a pressure-composition isotherms. The electrodes were prepared by cold pressing of the copper-coated(25 wt%) alloy powders, and tested by a half cell. The results are summarized as follows. The cycle life was improved with the increase of Mo amount in $Zr_{1-x}Ti_xV_{0.4}Ni_{1.2}Mn_{0.4}Mo_y$(x=0.3, 0.4) and the activation was faster, whereas the discharge capacity decreased.

Ferroeleclric 0.05PZN-xPZT(90/10)-(0.95-x)PZT(10/90) (x=0.65, 0.85) specimens were fabricated by the mixed-oxide method and cold-pressing method using sol-gel derived PZT(90/10) and PZT(10/90) powders. All specimens show a uniform ferroelectric grain without the presence of the pyrocholre phase. Average grain size increased with an increase in sintering temperature, the value for the x=0.65 specimen sintered at 125$0^{\circ}C$ was 14.4$\mu$m. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the x=0.65 specimen sintered at 125$0^{\circ}C$ were 1247, 2.06%, respectively. All specimens showed fairly good temperature and frequency stability of dielectric constant with the range from -2$0^{\circ}C$ to 6$0^{\circ}C$ and 100Hz to 10MHz. The coercive field and the remanent polarization of x = 0.65 specimen sintered at 125$0^{\circ}C$ were 8.5 kV/cm and 13 $\mu$C/cm$^2$, respectively. The pyroelectric coefficient of the x=0.65 specimen sintered at 125$0^{\circ}C$ was 5.64$\times$10$^{-8}$ C/cm$^2$K, respectively.
Monochromatic amber phosphor in glasses (PiGs) for automotive LED applications were fabricated with $YAG:Ce^{3+}$, $CaAlSiN_3:Eu^{2+}$ phosphors and Pb-free silicate glass. After synthesis and thickness-thinning process, PiGs were mounted on high-power blue LED to make monochromatic amber LEDs. PiGs were simple mixtures of 566 nm yellow YAG, 615 nm red $CaAlSiN_3:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor and transparent glass frit. The powders were uniaxially pressed and treated again through CIP (cold isostatic pressing) at 200 MPa for 20 min to increase packing density. After conventional thermal treatment at $550^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, PiGs were applied by using GPS (gas pressure sintering) to obtain a fully dense PiG plate. As the phosphor content increased, the density of the sintered body decreased and PiGs containing 30 wt% phosphor had full sintered density. Changes in photoluminescence spectra and color coordination were investigated by varying the ratio of $YAG/CaAlSiN_3$ and the thickness of the plates. Considering the optical spectrum and color coordinates, PiG plates with $240{\mu}m$ thickness showed a color purity of 98% and a wavelength of about 605 nm. Plates exhibit suitable optical characteristics as amber light-converting material for automotive LED applications.

This study characterized the chemical compounds in tannin from mangium (Acacia mangium) bark extract and determined the physical-mechanical properties of glued laminated timber (glulam) made from sengon (Falcataria moluccana), jabon (Anthocephalus cadamba), and mangium wood. The adhesives used to prepare the glulam were based on mangium tannin and phenol resorcinol formaldehyde resin. Five-layer glulam beams measuring $5cm{\times}6cm{\times}120cm$ in thickness, width, and length, respectively, were made with a glue spread of $280g/m^2$ for each glue line, cold pressing at $10.5kgf/cm^2$ for 4 h and clamping for 20 h. Condensed mangium tannin consisted of 49.08% phenolic compounds with an average molecular weight of 4745. The degree of crystallinity was 14.8%. The Stiasny number was 47.22%. The density and the moisture content of the glulams differed from those of the corresponding solid woods with mangium having the lowest moisture content (9.58%) and the highest density ($0.66g/cm^3$). The modulus of rupture for all glulam beams met the JAS 234-2003 standard but the modulus of elasticity and the shear strength values did not. Glulam beams made with tannin had high delamination under dry and wet conditions, but glulam made from sengon and jabon wood met the standard's requirements. All glulam beams had low formaldehyde emissions and were classified as $F^{****}$ for formaldehyde emissions according to the JAS 234 (2003) standard.
Thermoelectric (TE) materials working in radioisotope thermoelectric generators are irradiated by neutrons throughout its service; thus, investigating the neutron irradiation stability of TE devices is necessary. Herein, the influence of neutron irradiation with fluences of 4.56 × 1010 and 1 × 1013 n/cm2 by pulsed neutron reactor on the electrical and thermal transport properties of n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 and p-type Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 thermoelectric alloys prepared by cold-pressing and molding is investigated. After neutron irradiation, the properties of thermoelectric materials fluctuate, which is related to the material type and irradiation fluence. Different from p-type thermoelectric materials, neutron irradiation has a positive effect on n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 materials. This result might be due to the increase of carrier mobility and the optimization of electrical conductivity. Afterward, the effects of p-type and n-type TE devices with different treatments on the output performance of TE devices are further discussed. The positive and negative effects caused by irradiation can cancel each other to a certain extent. For TE devices paired with p-type Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 and n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 thermoelectric legs, the generated power and conversion efficiency are stable after neutron irradiation.
This study was carried out to investigate the physical and mechanical properties. durability of adhesive bond and paint film for the basic data which were required to determine the suitability as a raw material for furniture the laminated veneer lumber (LVL) with pitch pine (Pinus rigida Mill). The results obtained were as follows; 1) The proper pressing time for making the LVL was over 45 second per milimeter of LVL thickness. 2) The bending strength of the LVL was lower than that of the solid wood but the compressive strength of the LVL was similar to that of the solid wood. The strength increased with the decrease of veneer thickness. 3) The impact bending absorbed energy of the LVL was 0 to 0.3 kg.m/$cm^2$ in the direction of parallel to the grain. The energy of the LVL was lower than that of the solid wood (0.68 kg.m/$cm^2$). 4) In warm water soaking and cold-dry tests, delamination of adhered layers surface crack, swelling, and color change were not found when the hot pressing time was over 45 second per milimeter of LVL thickness. As a result of soak under vacuum test shrinkage in the direction of parallel to the grain was about -1.0 percent and. was about 3.0 percent in the direction of the perpendicular to the grain. 6) The film cacks on the LVL's surface after the wet and cold-dry test were not found at all. 7) In the use of the LVL for interior decoration it was considered that the surface of the LVL be overlaid crossly with fancy veneers of birch and paulownia, etc. This cross overlayirg methods have resulted in few cracks on the fancy veneer.
This International Geographical Symposium is to comemorate the 50th anniversary of the Korean Geographical Society. The Korean Geographical Society (KGS) which is the headquater of the geogaphical study will be play a main role to promote International Geographical Conference(IGC). And KGS hopes to prepare for the success of IGC and to examine the ability of the Korean Geographical Society for holding IGC in Seoul, in 2000. Above all, we expect to confirm what vision of the spatial structure our geographers have had for the last 50 years and in the position of the Korean Geographical Society, we present various studies on the spatial structure of the Unified Korea and through the discussion of the members we are going to lead our common interest to the key of reunification and motivate this studies more actively. We think that German geographers who have been studying the establishment of the spatial structure before and after the reunification of Germany will help in setting spatial structure of reunified Korea. In the second part of seminar, we will have a lecture on "Geography in the 21st Century; its Perspectives and Contribution". This lecture will prepose the trends of international geographical study and discipline, to Korean geographers and encourage them to realize what position we are in on the level of international geography and intensify their study. In the end of twentieth centuries, Korean geographers, who accessto postmodernism, hope to develope the unique subject matter and discipline regrardless of the 50 year-partition of the Korean Peninsula through the study of geobraphy. What can we suagest to geographers under the unique spatia1 structure of the divided peninsula\ulcorner How will our country develope in the future when DMZ, the last remains of cold war, vanishes and our reunified country becomes\ulcorner These subject matters will be issued in this International Geographic Conference. These issued subject matters and procedures of discussion will stimulate younger students to have interest in our unique geographic environment and to set up thier own method of study. In the third part of seminar, a special lecture on "Half-century of Korean Geography: It's Reflection and Perspective", the product and the subject of each part in geography will be discussed. Because this seminar is for the first time in 20 years after the 30th anniversary, the evaluation and the comment of each field in geography will be focused on because the achievement of each member's study is evaluted and refered to objectively. The newly developed field ewll be proposed, as well as the evaluation and the result of the Korean Geographical Society. The criticism and the proposal of the Korean Geographical Society will encourage the study of each member. And it will contribute to the development of the Korean Geographical Society. We hope all the issued papers to be published as atreatise and circulated to all members, university liberaries, each institution etc. There is no doubt our research and study will affect geographers and geography teachers to use this treatise. If possible, we will make public editions to distribute widely for students who study geography. It will help students to study geography encouragingly and to understand a correct structure and to commit themselves to promote the developed industrial country when they are playing a leading part in society. And we will contribute this issue to all the institutes such as the congress, each department of government, the political parties, the economic circles and private institutes, in order to make them understand our academic efforts and activities. Besides, we hope this contribution will give them much understanding and interest about 2000 IGC in Seoul beforehand.in Seoul beforehand.
In order to analyze the high temperature phase formation and the sinterability of super ionic conductor $K^+-{\beta}/{\beta}"-Al_2O_3$ which is commonly used as a solid oxide electrolyte, the pure $K^+-{\beta}/{\beta}"-Al_2O_3$ powder in the ternary system $K_2O-LiO_2-Al_2O_3$ was synthesized by solid state reaction and formed to tube and disk using slip casting method and cold isostatic pressing (CIP), respectively. The slip casting was conducted in an alumina mold with the slurry containing 40 wt% of solid contents and the CIP was carried out under 20 MPa. The samples were sintered at $1600^{\circ}C$, $1700^{\circ}C$ and $1750^{\circ}C$, respectively, and their phase formation and the sintering density were investigated according to the forming method. The samples produced by CIP showed far higher ${\beta}"-Al_2O_3$ fraction as compared with those by slip casting. On the other hand, the samples by slip casting showed slightly higher sintering density. The relative density reached to about 83% at $1750^{\circ}C$ and for 1 h, independent of the forming method. In the case of 90 min socking time, the density was decreased owing to the exaggerated grain growth and the pores by $K_2O$ evaporation.
