  • The rising of east-north economic bloc is notable in world economy due to the rapidly growth of china economy. The China's economic standing is gradually higher and higher because the joining of the WTO at 2001, development of the exterior open-door policy and the expansion of the trade between chain and several nations. Since Korea and China normalized diplomatic ties in 1992, the two have made remarkable progress in bilateral relations in the fields of economy and diplomacy in particular. The amount of Korea's trade with China has increased by over 20% a year on the average because of the development of the economic cooperation of Korea and China. That is to say, China was sixth trade partner by the end of 1993, based on the amount of trade. But China became third partner at 1993, second partner at 2003 and first partner at the first half of 2004, based on the amount of trade. Korea can not trade with China from the Korea's port opening period to Cold War period after second world war. But historically, the two countries have shared a active and long history of trade relations from the ancient times up to now. This is because two countries get near geographically and two countries have a implication of history and culture. Not only had Korea trade with China at prehistoric age, but also at BC 7. We knew that Korea had traded with China very actively at ancient times through the Paekje(Korea's ancient country) people's village at Santung province and Changbogo's trade works. Korea-china trade relation has played an important role for the development of world economy. Therefor, based on reviewing the korea-china trade, I study the historical meaning of the trade at the region of east-north asia.

  • A new capsaicin analog modified with 4-hydroxyl and alkyl chain of capsaicin was a very potent antiinflammatory analgesic drug and may be clinically useful for those who have rheumatoid arthritis, diabetic neuropathy and cancer. The purpose of this study was to investigate histopathology after short and long term application of poloxamer-based gels, and percutaneous absorption of various topical formulations. Poloxamer-based gel was prepared by cold method using poloxamer 407. The poloxamer gels was applied to dorsal sites of hairless mouse skin during one week or one month for the evaluation of skin irritation. The applied site was then sectioned for histopathologic examination. The topical formulations were also prepared using CMC, HPMC, MC, carbopol and glycerylmono stearate. Skin variation of poloxamer gels was studied using excised hairless mouse, rat, hamster and human penis skin. Franz-type diffusion cells were used far skin penetration of drug against receptor phase filled with about 10$m\ell$ of 0.9% saline solution kept at 32$^{\circ}C$. The concentration of drug was determined by the reverse phased C18, Symmetry HPLC with fluorometeric detector. No skin erythema was observed after dorsal application of poloxamer-based gels for one week or one month. No histopathologic changes was also examined, suggesting no skin toxicity of poloxamer-based gels. The order of flux rate was HPMC > MC ( CMC > poloxamer >> glycerylmono stearate ( carbopol. There was a skin variation of poloxamer gels. The flux rate of poloxamer gels was highest in case of hairless mouse followed by rat, human and hamster skin. • This study was conducted to develop the corrugated fiberboard box which is suitable to pre-cooling and low temperature distribution of chinese cabbage Consider from a cooling performance viewpoint, the folding type box with 5.4% vent hole ratio was most efficient for fast cooling and even temperature distribution in the packaging box. At the end of storage periods, the compressive strength of the folding type box was less than the bliss type box. However, the compressive strength of the folding type box after storage was higher than required safety compressive strength for long term storage. So the folding type box was considered to have no problems toy practical use. The shelf-life of the chinese cabbage packaged with the developed box was 6∼7 days which was 2∼3 days longer than usual packaging.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of proteolytic (Serratia liquefaciens, match %: 99.39) or lipolytic (Acinetobacter genomospecies 10, match %: 99.90) psychrotrophic bacteria (bacterial counts, analysis of free fatty acids (FFA) and analysis of free amino acids) on the microbial and chemical properties (yogurt composition), and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) of yogurt during storage. Yogurts were prepared with raw milk preinoculated with each psychrotrophic bacteria. The total solid, fat, and protein content were not affected by preinoculation, but the pH of yogurt preinoculated with psychrotrophic bacteria was higher than in control. There was a dramatic increase in short chain free fatty acids among FFA in yogurt with Acinetobacter genomospecies 10. For 14 d of cold storage condition, SCFFA was 25.3 mg/kg to 34.4 mg/kg (1.36 times increased), MCFFA was 20.4 mg/kg to 25.7 mg/kg (1.26 times increased), and LCFFA was 240.2 mg/kg to 322.8 mg/kg (1.34 times increased). Serratia liquefaciens (match %: 99.39) in yogurt caused a greater accumulation of free amino acids (FAA), especially bitter peptides such as leucine, valine, arginine, and tyrosine, but SDS-PAGE showed that the inoculation of Serratia liquefaciens did not affect the degree of casein degradation during storage. Taken together, the excessive peptides and FFA in yogurt generated from psychrotrophic bacteria could develop off-flavors that degrade the quality of commercial yogurt products.

  • The structure development of drawn poly(trimethylene terephthalate) PTT as a function of draw down ratio and drawing temperature was studied. The special effort was made to find out the effect of structural development on thermal properties and crystallinity in drawn PTT. The changes in shrinkage ratio and mechanical properties were understood base on the level of crystallinity and orientation of the drawn PTT. The stress induced crystallization caused the increase in glass transition temperature and the decrease in cold crystallization temperature and enthalpy. The crystallinity and orientation were dependent upon the level of applied stress level as well as chain flexibility at high drawing temperature. The drawing resulted in the increase of shrinkage ratio but it was minimized by increasing of crystallinity. The development of orientation resulted in increasing modulus and tensile strength while decreasing elongation at break.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the cold chain system by developing optimal phase change materials (PCM). There are some benefits from developing this system such as keeping freshness of agriculture products, saving energy, etc. The major results are as follows. To decide a latent heat material, the characteristics of water, sodium, polyacrylate, ethanol and N-tetradecane are analysed. Also, an insulating material is made by mixing water, nucleating agent and latent heat material, using cementing method. In addition, the sensitivity analysis for developed latent heat material($K_l,\;K_2,\;K_3$) is conducted. For $K_l,\;K_2,\;K_3$ which cans keep latent heat temperature, ranging from $0\;to\;5^{\circ}C,\;5\;to\;10^{\circ}C,\;10\;to\;15^{\circ}C$. it can keeps latent heat temperature at radiant heat (5, 12, $17^{\circ}C$) and transportation latent heat container both melting temperature and amount of latent heat of Kl are $-1.6{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$, 326.51 J/g, respectively and freezing temperature and latent heat are $-7.98{\pm}1.5^{\circ}C$ and 174.18 J/g. and $K_2$ are $7.41{\pm}1.5^{\circ}C$, 89.80 J/g, respectively and freezing temperature and latent heat are $-2.14{\pm}1.5^{\circ}C$ and 83.90 J/g. and $K_3$ are $9.54{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$, 145.42 J/g, respectively and freezing temperature and latent heat are $0.21{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$ and 152.48 J/g.

  • Objective : From an analysis of a community outbreak of measles in Youngju, Gyeongbuk, in March 2000, the authors evaluated the effectiveness of the measles vaccination and its determinants to Provide an epidemiologic basis for the establishment of a vaccination policy. Methods : Information was collected regarding the vaccinations from the health records of four primary schools and through a questionnaire surrey of the parents of students in two middle and two high schools (N=4638). Measles cases were surveyed from the patient list of each school and from case reports in the public health center. The attack rate and vaccine effectiveness of measles was evaluated by school; grade; frequency, region, and institution of vaccination. Results : The attack rate cf measles, 6.3% among the total subjects, was higher in middle school students (15.8%) than in primary (2.0%, p<0.05) and high school students (8.9%, p<0.05). The attack rate of the unvaccinated group was 4.6-fold higher than the vaccinated group in primary schools (p<0.05). Vaccine effectiveness was 83.2% among lower graders of primary schools, 34.0% among higher graders of primary schools,26.1% in middle schools, and -7.0% in high schools. In multiple logistic regression analysis, grade in school (odds ratio, 0.77; 95% CI=0.67-0.87) and frequency of vaccination (odds ratio, 0.57: 95% CI=0.37-0.58) were significant predictors of the outcome. Conclusions : We concluded that the explosive outbreak of measles in this area resulted from both inadequate vaccination coverage and secondary failure of vaccination. There was no evidence of any effect of the cold chain system on the vaccine failure.

  • To tolerate environmentally adverse conditions such as cold, drought, and salinity, plants often synthesize and accumulate proline in cells as compatible osmolytes. ${\Delta}^1$-Pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthetase(P5CS) catalyzes the rate-limiting step of proline biosynthesis from glutamate. Two complete genes, MtP5CS1 and MtP5CS2, were isolated from the model legume Medicago truncatula by cDNA cloning and bacterial artificial chromosome library screening. Nucleotide sequence analysis showed that both genes consisted of 20 exons and 19 introns. Alignment of the predicted amino acid sequences revealed high similarities with P5CS proteins from other plant species. The two MtP5CS genes were expressed in response to high salt and low temperature treatments. Semi-quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction showed that MtP5CS1 was expressed earlier than MtP5CS2, indicating differential regulation of the two genes. To evaluate the reverse genetic effects of nucleotide changes on MtP5CS function, a Targeting Induced Local Lesions in Genomes approach was taken. Three mutants each were isolated for MtP5CS1 and MtP5CS2, of which a P5CS2 nonsense mutant carrying a codon change from arginine to stop was expected to bring translation to premature termination. These provide a valuable genetic resource with which to determine the function of the P5CS genes in environmental stress responses of legume crops.

  • This study examines the recent business models of domestic logistics companies in Hanoi and Hai Phong, Vietnam, and suggests implications. We introduced business models (coastal shipping, distribution center and ICD transportation, cold chain, border crossing, port development, etc.) that provide logistics services through cooperation with existing logistics companies (shippers, logistics companies, local companies, etc.). If we propose a partnership plan in the short and medium term, short-term projects include warehouse, ICD, trucking business, and it is feasible to not only collaborate with Korean companies that have already entered the market, but to also invest in joint ventures with local companies (up to 51% of local companies). In the long term, we can consider coastal transportation, cross-border transportation, trucking, and investment in new deep sea ports. All of these businesses require local partnerships, so local companies require a 51% stake.

  • Background: Korean Red Ginseng is known to exhibit immune-enhancing and anti-inflammatory properties. The immune-enhancing effects of the nonsaponin fraction (NSF) of Korean Red Ginseng have been studied in many reports. However, the gastroprotective effect of this fraction is not fully understood. In this study, we demonstrate the activities of NSF for gastrointestinal protection and its related critical factor. Methods: The in vitro and in vivo regulatory functions of NSF on cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) messenger RNA and protein levels were examined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and immunoblotting analyses. Gastroprotective effects of NSF were investigated by histological score, gastric juice pH, and myeloperoxidase activity on indomethacin-induced, cold stress-induced, and acetylsalicylic acid-induced gastritis and dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis in in vivo mouse models. Results: NSF did not show cytotoxicity, and it increased COX-1 messenger RNA expression and protein levels in RAW264.7 cells. This upregulation was also observed in colitis and gastritis in vivo models. In addition, NSF treatment in mice ameliorated the symptoms of gastrointestinal inflammation, including histological score, colon length, gastric juice pH, gastric wall thickness, and myeloperoxidase activity. Conclusion: These results suggest that NSF has gastroprotective effects on gastritis and colitis in in vivo mouse models through COX-1 upregulation.
