후기 노인의 정보통신기술 활용이 인지기능에 미치는 영향: 사회적 참여와 우울의 직렬매개효과 (The Effects of Information Communication Technology on Cognitive Function in Old Age: Verification of the Serial Mediation Effects of Social Participation and Depression)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to draw practical implications applicable to the field by analyzing a double-mediator model of social participation and depression in relation to the utilization of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and cognitive function. Methods: The data from the Fifth Living Profiles of Older People Survey in Korea was used, and the sample included 3,925 people, 75 years of age or older. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and the PROCESS macro test were used for verification of the double mediator model. Results: The results were as follows: First, ICT utilization was rated at an average of 1.4 out of 10, social participation at an average of 1.1 out of 7, depression at an average of 3.72 out of 15, and cognitive function at an average of 22.42 out of 30. Second, ICT utilization has a significant effect on cognitive function. Third, the mediating effects of social participation between ICT utilization and cognitive function were significant. Fourth, the mediating effects of depression between ICT utilization and cognitive function were not significant. Fifth, the serial double mediator effects leading to ICT utilization, social participation, depression, and cognitive function were significant. Conclusion: The study discussed the implications of maintaining and protecting cognitive function in the vulnerable elderly through the utilization of ICT.

학생의 인지적.정의적 변인, 변칙 사례에 의한 인지 갈등, 개념 변화 사이의 관계 (The Relationships among Students' Cognitive/Affective Variables, Cognitive Conflict Induced by Anomalous Data, and Conceptual Change)

  • 본 연구에서는 학습자의 인지적 정의적 변인, 변칙 사례에 의한 인지 갈등, 개념 변화 사이의 관계에 대해 조사하였다. 배경 지식, 장의존성 독립성 학습 전략, 논리적 사고력, 목표 지향, 선개념 및 능력에 대한 자아효능감, 통제 신념 등을 조사하였고, 선개념 검사, 변칙 사례에 대한 반응 검사, 직후 개념 및 개념 파지 검사를 실시하였다. 학습자의 인지적 정의적 변인과 변칙 사례에 의한 인지 갈등 사이에는 유의미한 상관이 없었다. 분자 운동에 대한 배경 지식, 장의존성, 독립성, 학습 전략은 학생들의 직후 개념 및 개념 파지와 유의미한 상관이 있었으며, 논리적 사고력과 직후 개념의 상관이 유의미하였다. 중다 회귀 분석 결과, 학습 전략이 학생들의 직후 개념과 개념 파지를 유의미하게 예측하였다. 정의적 변인의 경우, 능력에 대한 자아효능감은 직후 개념 및 개념 파지와, 목표지향은 직후 개념과 유의미한 상관이 있었다. 능력에 대한 자아효능감은 직후 개념과 개념 파지에 대한 유의미한 예언 변인이었으며, 목표 지향은 직후 개념에 대한 유의미한 예측 변인이었다.

경도인지장애 선별검사로서 Montreal Cognitive Assessment-Korea (MoCA-K)의 규준 연구 (The Normative Study of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment-Korea (MoCA-K) as Instrument for Screening of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI))

  • Purpose : This study aimed to present normative data and cut-off points for older Korean adults completing the Montreal Cognitive Assessment - Korean (MoCA-K), which is used as a screening test for mild cognitive impairment in Korea. Methods : A total of 195 healthy adults ≥60 years were recruited. All participants completed the MoCA-K and the Korean - Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE-K) to assess their cognitive function. Participants were divided into six groups based on their age: 60-64 years, 65~69 years, 70~74 years, 75~79 years, 80~84 years, and 85~89 years. Results : The results revealed that MoCA-K score decreased significantly with age (mean score ± standard deviation [SD]; 27.63±2.80 in subjects aged 60~64 years; 27.00±2.39 in subjects aged 65~69 years; 24.94±2.96 in subjects aged 70~74 years; 24.74±3.37 in subjects aged 75~79 years; 22.59±4.72 in subjects aged 80~84 years; and 18.83±5.38 in subjects aged 85~89 years; p<.001). Additionally, MoCA-K score also increased significantly with educational level (mean score±standard deviation [SD]; 19.95±4.78 in no formal education group; 24.95±2.22 in elementary school graduated group; 26.35±2.72 in middle school graduated group; 28.32±1.36 in high school graduated group; and 28.50±1.51 in more than college graduated group; p<.001). The optimal cut-off points were 24/25 for 60~69 years old group, 21/22 for 70~79 years old group, 17/18 for 80~84 years old group, and 13/14 for 85~89 years old group. The optimal cut-off points were 15/16 for individuals who were illiterate, 22/23 for individuals with 6 years of education, 22/24 for individuals with 9 years of education, and 26/27 for individuals with 12 or more years of education. Conclusions : This study presents normative data and cut-off points for the MoCA-K in older Korean adults. This data will facilitate more accurate detection and follow-up of the risk of mild cognitive impairment in this population, taking into consideration age and education. Future studies are required that should focus on the cut-off score on the level of education according to age.

노인의 인지기능에 미치는 영향 (Effect on Cognitive Function in Elderly People)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify the effect on cognitive function in elderly people above 65 years of age. Methods : The data were collected from June 1 to August 30 2014. Data were collected by questionnaire from 994 elderly people. The instruments for this study were ADL, IADL, depression, MMSE-DS. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, multiple linear regression with the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results : The significant factors influencing MMSE-DS were education(${\beta}=-0.314$, p<.001), IADL(${\beta}=0.196$, p<.001), age(${\beta}=-0.168$, p<.001), exercise time(${\beta}=0.089$, p=.004), economic conditions(${\beta}=0.086$, p=.007), depression(${\beta}=-0.084$, p=.001), income(${\beta}=-0.083$, p=.003), sleep time(${\beta}=-0.079$, p=.001), medical insurance(${\beta}=0.059$, p=.024) and leisure(${\beta}=0.057$, p=.039). Conclusions : Based on the study, subjects with cognitive impairment detected at an early stage it is necessary to intervene in consideration of the individual characteristics and to develop and apply the program that improve the living habits such as exercise and sleep, and decreasing depression.

조현병 환자의 내재화된 낙인 감소를 위한 인지행동 프로그램 개발 및 효과검증 (Development and Effects of a Cognitive-behavioral Therapy Based Program in Reducing Internalized Stigma in Patients with Schizophrenia)

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a internalized stigma reducing program based on cognitive-behavioral therapy and appropriate for patients with schizophrenia and to evaluate its effectiveness. Methods: The study design was a mixed method research. Qualitative study, 13 patients with schizophrenia who had experience in overcoming stigma were purposively chosen for interviews and data were analyzed using Giorgi method. Quantitative study, 64 patients with schizophrenia (experimental group =32, control group =32) were recruited. The cognitive-behavioral therapy-based program for reducing internalized stigma in patients with schizophrenia was provided for 8 weeks (12 sessions). Data were collected from June. 20, 2013 to Feb. 14, 2014. Quantitative data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2-test$, t-test, repeated measures ANOVA with the SPSS program. Results: Qualitative results, from the experience of coping with stigma in patients with schizophrenia seventeen themes and five themes-clusters were drawn up. Quantitative results showed that internalized stigma, self-esteem, mental health recovery and quality of life were significantly better in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: Study findings indicate that this program for reducing internalized stigma in patients with schizophrenia is effective and can be recommended as a rehabilitation program intervention to help patients with schizophrenia to cope with internalized stigma.

Optimal SMDP-Based Connection Admission Control Mechanism in Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks

  • Traffic management is a highly beneficial mechanism for satisfying quality-of-service requirements and overcoming the resource scarcity problems in networks. This paper introduces an optimal connection admission control mechanism to decrease the packet loss ratio and end-to-end delay in cognitive radio sensor networks (CRSNs). This mechanism admits data flows based on the value of information sent by the sensor nodes, the network state, and the estimated required resources of the data flows. The number of required channels of each data flow is estimated using a proposed formula that is inspired by a graph coloring approach. The proposed admission control mechanism is formulated as a semi-Markov decision process and a linear programming problem is derived to obtain the optimal admission control policy for obtaining the maximum reward. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed mechanism outperforms a recently proposed admission control mechanism in CRSNs.

Classification of Cognitive States from fMRI data using Fisher Discriminant Ratio and Regions of Interest

  • In recent decades, analyzing the activities of human brain achieved some accomplishments by using the functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) technique. fMRI data provide a sequence of three-dimensional images related to human brain's activity which can be used to detect instantaneous cognitive states by applying machine learning methods. In this paper, we propose a new approach for distinguishing human's cognitive states such as "observing a picture" versus "reading a sentence" and "reading an affirmative sentence" versus "reading a negative sentence". Since fMRI data are high dimensional (about 100,000 features in each sample), extremely sparse and noisy, feature selection is a very important step for increasing classification accuracy and reducing processing time. We used the Fisher Discriminant Ratio to select the most powerful discriminative features from some Regions of Interest (ROIs). The experimental results showed that our approach achieved the best performance compared to other feature extraction methods with the average accuracy approximately 95.83% for the first study and 99.5% for the second study.

Depression and suicidal ideation in community-dwelling older adults in Korea

  • This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of depression and suicidal ideation in community-dwelling older adults in Korea, as well as identify factors associated with their occurrence, including cognitive impairment. A cross-sectional study of 484 residents was conducted at a senior centre utilising the PHQ-9K and K-MMSE. Demographic data were also collected for analysis. Of the respondents, 38.1% had symptoms of mild to severe depression. Further, 16.7% reported having suicidal ideation, with 5% of respondents having thoughts of suicide every day. The majority of participants had 'normal' scores on the K-MMSE (88.0%), though significant differences were observed in PHQ-9K scores between cognitive-acceptable and cognitive-impaired groups. Depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation were very prevalent in community-dwelling older adults in Korea. This study indicates the need for the development of community-based mental health programs tailored to older adults, and demonstrates the viability of promoting early detection of depressive symptoms through senior centres.

Computational Thinking 기반 인공지능교육을 통한 학습자의 인지적역량 평가 프레임워크 설계 (Designing the Framework of Evaluation on Learner's Cognitive Skill for Artificial Intelligence Education through Computational Thinking)

  • 본 연구에서는 Computational Thinking 기반의 인공지능(AI)교육에 대한 학습자의 내재적 사고의 변화를 살펴보기 위한 평가도구 개발의 기준과 프레임워크를 구성하여 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 데이터수집을 위한 인지적 학습보조(Agency)의 단계, 수집된 데이터의 특징을 분해하여 데이터의 패턴을 인식하고 카테고리화 과정을 수행하는 추상화(Abstracting)의 단계, 추상화과정을 수행한 정제된 데이터를 토대로 알고리즘을 구성하는 모델링(Modeling)단계의 일련의 순차적 과정이 평가요소로 구성되었다. 또한 학습자의 인식, 학습, 행동, 결과에 대한 인지적영역에 대한 평가가 구성되었으며, 학습자의 문제해결의 과정과 결과에 대하여 지식, 역량, 태도의 영역에 대하여 측정을 하게 됨으로써 AI교육에 대한 학습의 내재적인 인지영역의 변화와 결과에 대한 평가를 할 수 있도록 프레임 워크가 설계되었다. 연구의 결과는 교수학습의 맥락에 따른 개별화된 평가도구 개발에 대한 프레임워크를 구성하였다는 점에서 의미가 있으며, 향후 AI교육의 다양한 영역에서 활용될 수 있는 기준으로서 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

개념 학습에서 변칙 사례의 역할 (The Role of Anomalous Data in Concept Learning)

  • 이 연구에서는 끓는점 학습에서 인지 갈등, 상태 흥미, 개념 변화 사이의 관계를 조사했다. 또한, 이들 관계에서 성에 따른 차이도 조사했다. 중학교 1학년 학생 370명이 본 연구에 참여했다. 먼저, 학습된 오개념을 지닌 학생을 선별하기 위해 선개념 검사를 실시했다. 변칙 사례를 제시한 후, 변칙 사례에 대한 반응 검사와 상태 흥미 검사를 실시했다. CAI 프로그램으로 수업 처치를 한 후, 직후 개념 검사를 실시했다. 4주 후에 동일한 검사지로 개념 파지 검사를 실시했다. 인지 갈등과 상태 흥미 검사 점수는 모두 직후 개념 검사 및 개념 파지 검사 점수와 유의미한 상관이 있었다. 중다 회귀 분석 결과, 상태 흥미가 인지 갈등 보다 개념 변화 및 개념 파지 정도를 예측하는데 있어 더 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 남학생의 경우에는 상태 흥미만이 개념 변화 및 개념 파지에 대해 유의미한 예측 변인으로 나타났으나, 여학생의 경우에는 인지 갈등만이 유의미한 예측 변인으로 나타났다.
