  • The stochastic analysis was carried out to the hourly time series observed at Dae-gu, Wha-Myung and Ku-Mee in order to see water quality variation of the Nack-Dong River during Three months (July, Aug. and Sept.) in each year of 1979 and 1981. As a result of this study, it was found that 1. The simple correlation coefficients between some of the variables were fairly high. For example, the coefficients between Do and WT. were -0.824 (Dae-gu), -0.547 (Wha-myung), and -0.911(Ku-mee). The coefficients between COND and DO. were -0.263(Dae-gu), -0.347(Wha-myung) and -0.881 (Ku-mee). The coefficients between COND and WT. were 0.531 (Dae-gu), 0.361 (Wha-myung) and 0.800 (Ku-mee). 2. Hourly water quality time series of WT and DO existed as dominant 24 hours Periodicity For example, the Aut correlation coefficients about WT were 0.960 (K=1), 0.846(K=24), 0.691(K=48), 0.596(K=72), and 0.453(K=96). The auto-correlation coefficients of Do were 0.968 (K=1), 0.591 (K=24), 0.393 (K=48), 0.349 (K=72) and 0.250 (K=96). 3. Weekly water quality time series of WT and Do varied with the dominant 24 hours periodicity.

  • Productivity and machining performance can be improved by cutting analysis including cutting force prediction, surface error prediction and machining stability evaluation. In order to perform cutting analysis, cutting force coefficients database have to be constructed. Since cutting force coefficients are dependent on cutting condition in the existing research, a large number of calibration tests are needed to obtain cutting force coefficients, which makes it difficult to build the cutting force coefficients database. This paper proposes a generalized method for constructing the cutting force coefficients database us ins cutting-condition-independent coefficients. The tool geometry and workpiece material were considered as important components for database construction. Cutting force coefficients were calculated and analyzed for various helix and rake angles as well as for several workpiece. Furthermore, the variation of cutting force coefficients according to tool wear was analyzed. Tool wear was found to affect tool geometry, which results in the change of cutting force coefficients.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between yearly variations of climatic elements and yearly variations of productivity in perilla. In addition, correlation coefficients among yield and yield components were estimated. The data of yield and yield components were investigated for 10 years from 1991 to 2000. The meteorological data gathered at the Yeosu Weather Station for the same period were used to find out the relationships between climatic elements and productivity. Yearly variation of the amount of precipitation in September was large with coefficients of variation(c. v.) of 11.1%, but the coefficient of variance(c. v.) in July and August were relative small with 1.8, 2.1%, respectively. Number of cluster per hill and weight of 1,000 grains were greatly with c. v. of 76.1, 79.3%, respectively, but the coefficients of variance(c. v.) of plant height and seed yield were more less with 9.58, 10.60%, respectively. Correlation coefficients between precipitation of September and seed yield were positively significant correlation at the level of 5.1%, respectively, but the duration of sunshine in September and seed yield were negatively significant at the level of 5.1%, respectively. Correlation coefficients of these, the plant height, number of branches per plant, cluster length, number of cluster per hill, weight of 1,000 grains and seed yield were positively significant at the level of 5.1% respectively.

  • Aerodynamic force coefficients are generally prescribed by an ensemble average of ten and/or twenty 10-minute samples. However, this makes it difficult to identify the exact probability distribution and exceedance probability of the prescribed values. In this study, 12,600 10-minute samples on three tall buildings were measured, and the probability distributions were first identified and the aerodynamic force coefficients corresponding to the specific non-exceedance probabilities (cumulative probabilities) of wind load were then evaluated. It was found that the probability distributions of the mean and fluctuating aerodynamic force coefficients followed a normal distribution. The ratios of aerodynamic force coefficients corresponding to the specific non-exceedance probabilities (Cf,Non) to the ensemble average of 12,600 samples (Cf,Ens), which was defined as an adjusting factor (Cf,Non/Cf,Ens), were less than 2%. The effect of coefficient of variation of wind speed on the adjusting factor is larger than that of the annual non-exceedance probability of wind load. The non-exceedance probabilities of the aerodynamic force coefficient is between PC,nonex = 50% and 60% regardless of force components and aspect ratios. The adjusting factors from the Gumbel distribution were larger than those from the normal distribution.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between yearly variations of climatic elements and yearly variations of productivity in sesame. In addition, correlation coefficients among yield and yield components were estimated. The data of yield and yield components were investigated for 10 years from 1992 to 2001. The meteorological data gathered at the Yeosu Weather Station for the same period were used to find out the relationships between climatic elements and productivity. Yearly variation of the amount of precipitation in July and September were large with coefficients of variation(c.v.) of 64.59, 92.47%, respectively, but the variation of the average temperature in June and August were relative small. Yield and plant height greatly with c. v. of 26.24, 23.41 %, respectively, 1, 000 grain weights show more or less c.v. of 3.83% and length capsule setting show still less variation. Correlation coefficients between maximun temperature in period of cultivation(from June to September) and yield are positively significant at the level of 5.1 %, respectively. Correlation coefficients amount the plant height, length capsule setting, number of capsules per plant, weight of 1, 000 grains and seed yield were positively significant at the level of 1 %, respectively. Simple linear regression equations by the least square method are estimated for number of capsules per plant(Y$_1$) and the maximun temperature in August(X) as $Y_1$=10.1255+0.1725X, and for yield(Y$_2$) and the maximun temperature in August(X) as $Y_2$=21.6151 + 1.3724X.

  • Observation of standard stars is of crucial importance in stellar photometry. We have studied the standard transformation relations of the UBV RI CCD photometric system at the Maidanak Astronomical Observatory in Uzbekistan. All observations were made with the AZT-22 1.5m telescope, SITe 2k CCD or Fairchild 486 CCD, and standard Bessell UBV RI filters from 2003 August to 2007 September. We observed many standard stars around the celestial equator observed by SAAO astronomers. The atmospheric extinction coefficients, photometric zero points, and time variation of photometric zero points of each night were determined. Secondary extinction coefficients and photometric zero points were very stable, while primary extinction coefficients showed a distinct seasonal variation. We also determined the transformation coefficients for each filter. For B, V, R, and I filters, the transformation to the SAAO standard system could be achieved with a straight line or a combination of two straight lines. However, in the case of the U filter and Fairchild 486 CCD combination, a significant non-linear correction term - related to the size of Balmer jump or the strength of the Balmer lines - of up to 0:08 mags was required. We found that our data matched well the SAAO photometry in V, B - V, V - I, and R - I. But in U - B, the difference in zero point was about 3.6 mmag and the scatter was about 0.02 mag. We attribute the relatively large scatter in U -B to the larger error in U of the SAAO photometry. We confirm the mostly small differences between the SAAO standard UBV RI system and the Landolt standard system. We also attempted to interpret the seasonal variation of the atmospheric extinction coefficients in the context of scattering sources in the earth's atmosphere.

  • This paper describes the flow field analysis of an automobile with crosswind effects of 15°, 30° 45° and 60° of yaw angles. The governing equations of the 3-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved by the iterative time marching scheme. The Chimera grid technique has been applied to efficiently simulate the flow around the side-view mirror. The computated surface pressure coefficients have been compared with experimental results and a good agreement has been achieved. The A- and C-pillar vortex and other flow phenomena around the ground vehicle are evidently shown. The variation of aerodynamic coefficients of drag, lift, side force and moments with respect to yaw angle is systematically studied.

  • This paper describes the scheme of sliding mode control (SMC) to adopt the conventional slip frequency vector drives. The purpose of sliding mode control is to achieve an accurate, robustness of response for ac servomotor speed control. A sliding mode control design method is proposed for a speed control of an induction servomotor. The control law is composed of the variable structure component and the suppressed coefficients to suppress load disturbance and variation of external parameters. The proposed control scheme is simulated by the computer which is installed in an ideal ac servomotor. The simulation results show that the proposed design method has robustness and accuracy in the speed response by adjusting the suppressed coefficients for load disturbance and the motor mechanical parameter variation.

  • We have observed 85 UBV standard stars(V<6) with SNU photoelectric photometer system and 24" Cassegrain reflector at Sobaeksan Observing Station during the period between January and May, 1980 in order to examine the photometer system and to determine atmospheric extinction coefficients. From five night observations, the following results were obtained: (1) The set of filters(V=2mm GG 495, B=2mm GG 385+1mm BG 12, U=2mm UG 2) is better than the other filter set used in our tests on the basis of linear instrumental calibrations for V and B filters. (2) The SNU detecting system is very stable within ${\sigma}=0.002$ in magnitude in a night but the variation in its stability from night to night is not negligible. (3) The extinction coefficients were derived from two different methods and we have found no systematic seasonal variation in the extinction coefficients although the mean dispersion is considerable.
