Insect flight is adapted to cope with each circumstance by controlling a variety of the parameters of wing motion in nature. Many researchers have struggled to solve the fundamental concept of insect flight, but it has not been solved yet clearly. In this study, to find the most effective flapping wing kinematics, we conducted to analyze CFD data on fixing some of the optimal parameters of wing motion such as stoke amplitude, flip duration and wing rotation type and then controlled the deviation angle by fabricating wing tip motion. Although all patterns have the similar value of lift coefficient and drag coefficient, pattern A(pear-shape type) indicates the highest lift coefficient and pattern H(pear-shape type) has the lowest lift coefficient among four wing tip motions and three deviation angles. This result suggest that the lift and drag coefficient depends on the angle of attack and the deviation angle combined, and it could be explained by delayed stall effect.

The present study proposes a time domain model for the Vortex-induced Vibration (VIV) simulation of a catenary riser under the combination of the current and oscillatory flow induced by vessel motion. In this model, the hydrodynamic force of VIV comprises excitation force, hydrodynamic damping and added mass, which are taken as functions of the non-dimensional frequency and amplitude ratio. The non-dimensional frequency is related with the response frequency, natural frequency, lock-in range and the fluid velocity. The relatively oscillatory flow induced by vessel motion is taken into account in the fluid velocity. Considering that the added mass coefficient and the non-dimensional frequency can affect each other, an iterative analysis is conducted at each time step to update the added mass coefficient and the natural frequency. This model is in detail validated against the published test models. The results show that the model can reasonably reflect the effect of the added mass coefficient on the VIV, and can well predict the riser's VIV under stationary and oscillatory flow induced by vessel motion. Based on the model, this study carries out the VIV simulation of a catenary riser with harmonic vessel motion. By analyzing the bending moment near the touchdown point, it is found that under the combination of the ocean current and oscillatory flow the vessel motion may decrease the VIV response, while increase the excited frequencies. In addition, the decreasing rate of the VIV under vessel surge is larger than that under vessel heave at small vessel motion velocity, while the situation becomes opposite at large vessel motion velocity.
Different incident angles of ground motions have been considered to evaluate the relationship between floor rotation and torsional irregularity coefficient. The issues specifically addressed are (1) variability in torsional irregularity coefficient and floor rotations with varying incident angles of ground motion (2) contradictory relationship between floor rotation and torsional irregularity coefficient. To explore the stated issues, an evaluation based on relative variation in seismic response quantities of linear asymmetric structure under the influence of horizontal bi-directional excitation with varying seismic orientations has been carried out using response history analysis. Several typical earthquake records are applied to the structure to demonstrate the relative variations of floor rotation and torsional irregularity coefficient for different seismic orientations. It is demonstrated that (1) Torsional irregularity coefficient (TIC) increases as the story number decreases when the ground motion is considered along reference axes of the structure. For incident angles other than structure's reference axes, TIC either decreases as the story number decreases or there is no specific trend for TIC. Floor rotation increases in proportion to the story number when the ground motion is considered along reference axes of structure. For incident angles other than structure's reference axes, floor rotation either decreases as the story number increases or there is no specific trend for floor rotation and (2) TIC and floor rotation seems to be approximately inversely proportional to each other when the ground motion is considered along reference axes of the structure. For incident angles other than structure's reference axes, the relationship can even become directly proportional instead of inversely proportional.
Based on the boundary element method, the motion responses and transmission coefficients of a moored floating breakwater were investigated in oblique waves. To satisfy the outgoing radiation condition in the far field, the fluid domain was divided into inner and outer regions. The complete solution could be obtained by applying the matching conditions between the eigenfunction-based outer solution and BEM-based inner solution. Using the developed predictive tools, the wave exciting forces, added mass, damping coefficients, motion responses, and transmission coefficients were assessed for various combinations of breakwater configuration, wave heading, mooring cables properties, and wave characteristics. It was found that the transmission coefficient for a moored floating breakwater was closely dependent on the motion responses, which were greatly amplified at the resonant frequencies.
Motions of an unsymmetric rigid body on a rigid floor subjected to earthquake excitations with special attention to coefficient of friction are investigated. Motions of a body in a plane are classified (Ishiyama 1980) into six types, i.e. (1) rest, (2) slide, (3) rotation, (4) slide rotation, (5) translation jump, (6) rotation jump. Based upon the theoretical and experimental research work special attention is paid to the sliding of a body. The equations of motions and the behavior of coefficient of friction in the time of floor excitation are studied. One of the features of this investigation is the introduction and estimation of the "time dependent" coefficient of friction. It has been established that the constant kinetic coefficient of friction $${\mu}(kin){\sim_\sim}0.8{\mu}(stat)$$ does not give the appropriate results. The method for the estimation of the friction coefficient variation during the time is given.

The purpose of this study was to assess the intra-tester and inter-tester reliability and validity of elbow flexion range of motion using a smart phone used by the general public. Thirty-one general people participated in this study. The range of motion in active elbow flexion was measured with a goniometer and smart phone over two times by two observers. The intra-taster and inter-tester reliability were evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC). The validity was measured by Pearson's correlation coefficient. The intra-observer reliability was good in all measured items ICC>0.900. The inter-observer reliability was high with ICC>0.806. All correlation coefficients of android app and goniometer were greater than 0.868 and showed a significant positive correlation (p<0.01). The range of motion measurement with a smart phone showed acceptable reliability. Therefore, using a smartphone to measure the range of motion of the elbow joint could provide convenience and economic benefits.
Unsteady lift measurements were carried out in order to investigate the effects of phase difference and reduced frequency of a dragonfly-type model with two pairs of wing. A load-cell was employed to measure the lift generated by a plunging motion of the dragonfly-type model with the incidence angles of 0$^{circ}$. Experimental conditions are as follows: phase differences between fore- and hind-wings are 0$^{circ}$, 90$^{circ}$, 180$^{circ}$, and 270$^{circ}$, and reduced frequencies are 0.075, 0.15 and 0.225, respectively. The freestream velocity was 143 m/sec and corresponding chord Reynolds number was $3.4{\times}10^3$. The variation of phase-averaged lift coefficients during one cycle of the wing motion is presented. Results show that the total value of the positive lift coefficient during one cycle of the wing motion is the largest at the phase difference of 90$^{circ}$, and that the maximum lift coefficient and lift coefficient per unit of time increases with reduced frequency.
Development of a locomotive mechanism fer the capsule type endoscopes will largely enhance the ability to diagnose disease of digestive organs. In connection with it, most of researches have focused on an installable locomotive mechanism in the capsule. In this paper, it is introduced that the movement of a capsule type endoscope in digestive organ can be manipulated by magnetic force produced outside human body. Since the magnetic force is provided by permanent magnets, no additional power supply to the capsule is required. Using a robotic manipulator for locating the external magnet, the capsule motion control system can cover the whole human digestive organs. This study is particularly concentrated on dither motion effect to improve the mobility of capsule type endoscope. It was experimentally found out that the friction coefficient between the capsule and digestive organ can be remarkably reduced by superposing yawing or rolling dither motion on the translatory motion. In this paper, the experimental results obtained with the direction, amplitude and frequency of sinusoidal dither motion changed is reported.
