Trailing Artifact Avoidance for Low Bit-Rate Video Coders (저 전송률 비디오 부호화 환경에서 잔상 현상의 제거 기술에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we proposed that technique for reducing trailing artifact in MPEG-4 video. low bit-rate video is occured trailng artifact which remain part of moving object. Because MEMC doesn't work well in the degraded video. The proposed trailing artifact reduction approach has at its core three main steps. First step is to detect trailing artifact. Second step is applied intra block coding to remove trailing artifact. Finally, bit-rate control algorithm is used. Experimental result using an MPEG-4 based encoder indicate that the proposed method has overhead(bits) of about 2 percent and proposed method effective reduce or eliminate trailing artifact

  • A powerful general purpose image processing processor is developed using a high-speed DSP chip, TMS320C30. The image processing processor, compatible to the standard VME bus, is composed of VME bus interface unit, video rate image grabbing/coding unit, TMS320C30 interface unit and bank of high-speed SRAMs. The performance is evaluated experimentally with the general image processing algorithms and the results show that the developed processor is capable of high speed image processing.

  • In this paper, high performance radio buoy system used for inshore and deep sea fishery is developed and experimented. Location of radio buoy can be accurately monitored and traced by the mother ship using GPS technology, and optimum access protocol is adopted to minimize the power consumption of radio buoy system. Developed system can cover over 80Km coastal range with 8 W transmitting power and -115 dBm receiver sensitivity and can ensure high security from burglary and loss using digital coding technology.

  • This paper introduces a novel neuro-fuzzy system based on the polynomial fuzzy neural network(PFNN) architecture. The PFNN consists of a set of if-then rules with appropriate membership functions whose parameters are optimized via a hybrid genetic algorithm. A polynomial neural network is employed in the defuzzification scheme to improve output performance and to select appropriate rules. A performance criterion for model selection, based on the Group Method of DAta Handling is defined to overcome the overfitting problem in the modeling procedure. The hybrid genetic optimization method, which combines a genetic algorithm and the Simplex method, is developed to increase performance even if the length of a chromosome is reduced. A novel coding scheme is presented to describe fuzzy systems for a dynamic search rang in th GA. For a performance assessment of the PFNN inference system, three well-known problems are used for comparison with other methods. The results of these comparisons show that the PFNN inference system outperforms the other methods while it exhibits exceptional robustness characteristics.

  • Many cryptographic and error control coding algorithms rely on finite field GF(2m) arithmetic. Hardware implementation of these algorithms needs an efficient realization of finite field arithmetic operations. Finite field multiplication is complicated among the basic operations, and it is employed in field exponentiation and division operations. Various algorithms and architectures are proposed in the literature for hardware implementation of finite field multiplication to achieve a reduction in area and delay. In this paper, a low area and delay efficient semi-systolic multiplier over finite fields GF(2m) using the modified Montgomery modular multiplication (MMM) is presented. The least significant bit (LSB)-first multiplication and two-level parallel computing scheme are considered to improve the cell delay, latency, and area-time (AT) complexity. The proposed method has the features of regularity, modularity, and unidirectional data flow and offers a considerable improvement in AT complexity compared with related multipliers. The proposed multiplier can be used as a kernel circuit for exponentiation/division and multiplication.

  • Cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) is a xenobiotic metabolizing enzyme that is tissue-specifically expressed in the mammalian liver. In this study, the extent of CYP1A2 promoter methylation was analyzed to determine its potential role in the regulation of CYP1A2 in diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-induced mouse liver tumors. CYP1A2 mRNA was under-expressed about three fold in DEN-induced liver tumors compared to age-matched control livers. The CYP1A2 promoter was hypermethylated in DEN-induced liver tumors compared to controls, especially in a promoter domain close to the coding region. These results suggest that promoter methylation is involved in the regulation of CYP1A2 in mouse liver tumors.

  • This paper proposes an efficient predictive image-compression technique based on vector quantization of blocks of pels. In the proposed method edge contents of blocks control the selection of predictors and block shapes as well. The maximum number of bits assigned to quantizers has been in creased to 3bits/pel from 1/5bits/pel, the setting employed by forerunners in predictive vector quantization of images. This increase prevents the saturation in SNR observed in their results in high bit rates. The variable block shape is instrumental in eh reconstruction of edges. The adaptive procedure is controlled by means of he standard deviation ofp rediction errors generated by a default predictor; the standard deviation address a decision table which can be set up beforehand. eh proposed method is characterized by overall improvements in image quality over A-VQ-PE and A-DCT VQ, both of which are known for their efficient use of vector quantizers.

Genomic Features and Lytic Activity of the Bacteriophage PPPL-1 Effective against Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae, a Cause of Bacterial Canker in Kiwifruit

  • Bacterial canker in kiwifruit is caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa). In this study, the bacteriophage PPPL-1 effective against Psa was characterized. Belonging to the Podoviridae family, PPPL-1 was effective against most Psa strains as well as most Pseudomonas syringae pathovars. PPPL-1 carries a 41,149-bp genome with 49 protein coding sequences and is homologous to the previously reported phiPSA2 bacteriophage. The lytic activity of PPPL-1 was stable up to $40^{\circ}C$, within a range of pH 3-11 and under 365 nm UV light. These results indicate that the bacteriophage PPPL-1 might be useful to control Psa in the kiwifruit field.

  • 분산 동영상 부호화 시스템에서는 복호기에서 움직임 보상 보간 기법을 이용하여 부가정보를 생성한다. 생성된 부가정보와 원 Wyner-Ziv 프레임간의 차이를 채널 부호로 오류 정정하게 되는데 이때 부호기에서는 복호기에서의 오류 정정을 위하여 패리티 비트인 Wyner-Ziv 비트를 복호기로 보내게 되고 복호기에서는 이 Wyner-Ziv 비트를 이용하여 Wyner-Ziv 프레임을 복원하는데 더 많은 Wyner-Ziv 비트가 필요할 경우 피드백 채널을 통해 Wyner-Ziv 비트를 요청하게 된다. 이때 부호기에서 조건부 엔트로피를 구할 수 있다면 이를 이용하여 Wyner-Ziv 비트 전송량을 제어함으로써 피드백 채널을 제거 할 수 있다. 이를 위해 부호기에서도 부가정보를 알아야하는데 복호기에서 사용하는 부가정보 생성 기법은 복잡도가 높기 때문에 사용할 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 부호기에서 간단한 부가정보를 생성하는 방법을 제안하고 분산 동영상 부호화 시스템에 적용하여 피드백 채널을 제거하였을 때의 성능을 분석하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 HEVC(high efficiency video coding)의 후처리 필터 중 하나인 적응적 샘플 오프셋(sample adaptive offset, SAO) 기술을 고속화 하는 방법을 제안한다. 기존의 SAO 는 원 영상과 복원된 영상간의 오차를 최소화하기 위해 각 블록마다 오프셋 값을 계산하므로 연산 복잡도가 매우 높다. 따라서 제안한 방법에서는 다양한 입력 영상에 대한 오프셋 사용빈도를 알아보고, 그 통계를 기반으로 불필요한 오프셋 연산을 생략한다.
