A problem of many fractal image compression algorithms providing good quality at low bit rate is that the decoding time rests on an iterative procedure whose complexity is imag-dependent. This paper proposes an iterative-free fractal image decoding algorithm to reduce the decoding time. In the proposed method, under the encoder previously with the same codebook image as an initial image to be used at the decoder, the fractal coefficients are obtained through calculating the similarity between the codebook image and an input image to be encoded. As the decoding time could be remarkably reduced. For verifying the validity and universality of proposed method, We evaluated and analyzed the performance of decoding time and image quality for a number of still images and a moving picture with different distributed characteristics.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm which implements a multi-sided side match finite-state vector quantization(MSMVQ). After extracting the edge information from an image and classifying the image into edge blocks or non-edge blocks, we construct an edge map. We subdivide edge blocks into sixteen classes using discrete cosine transform(DCT) AC coefficients. Based on edge map information, a state codebook is made from the master codebook, and side match calculation is done for two-sided or three-sided current block of image. For reducing transmitted bits, a decision is made whether or not to encode the non-edge blocks among the pre-coded blocks by using the master codebook. Also for reducing allocation bits of codeword indices to decoder, a variable length coder is used. Considering the comparison with side match finite-state vector quantization(SMVQ) and two-sided SMVQ(TSMVQ) algorithm about Zelda, Lenna, Bridge and Peppers image, the new algorithm shows better picture quality than SMVQ and TSMVQ respectively.
Feature-based similarity retrieval has become an important research issue in multimedia database systems. The features of multimedia data are useful for discriminating between multimedia objects (e 'g', documents, images, video, music score, etc.). For example, images are represented by their color histograms, texture vectors, and shape descriptors, and are usually high-dimensional data. The performance of conventional multidimensional data structures(e'g', R- Tree family, K-D-B tree, grid file, TV-tree) tends to deteriorate as the number of dimensions of feature vectors increases. The R*-tree is the most successful variant of the R-tree. In this paper, we propose a SOM-based R*-tree as a new indexing method for high-dimensional feature vectors. The SOM-based R*-tree combines SOM and R*-tree to achieve search performance more scalable to high dimensionalities. Self-Organizing Maps (SOMs) provide mapping from high-dimensional feature vectors onto a two dimensional space. The mapping preserves the topology of the feature vectors. The map is called a topological of the feature map, and preserves the mutual relationship (similarity) in the feature spaces of input data, clustering mutually similar feature vectors in neighboring nodes. Each node of the topological feature map holds a codebook vector. A best-matching-image-list. (BMIL) holds similar images that are closest to each codebook vector. In a topological feature map, there are empty nodes in which no image is classified. When we build an R*-tree, we use codebook vectors of topological feature map which eliminates the empty nodes that cause unnecessary disk access and degrade retrieval performance. We experimentally compare the retrieval time cost of a SOM-based R*-tree with that of an SOM and an R*-tree using color feature vectors extracted from 40, 000 images. The result show that the SOM-based R*-tree outperforms both the SOM and R*-tree due to the reduction of the number of nodes required to build R*-tree and retrieval time cost.
In this work, the minimum statistics (MS) algorithm is combined with the codebook driven short-term predictor parameter estimation (CDSTP) to design a speech enhancement algorithm that is robust against various background noise environments. The MS algorithm functions well for the stationary noise but relatively not for the non-stationary noise. The CDSTP works efficiently for the non-stationary noise, but not for the noise that was not considered in the training stage. Thus, we propose to combine CDSTP and MS. Compared with the single use of MS and CDSTP, the proposed method produces better perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) score, and especially works excellent for the mixed background noise between stationary and non-stationary noises.

In this paper, it was presented a design on the dynamic multimedia fingerprinting code for anti-collusion code(ACC) in the protection of multimedia content. Multimedia fingerprinting code for the conventional ACC, is designed with a mathematical method to increase k to k+1 by transform from BIBD's an incidence matrix to a complement matrix. A codevector of the complement matrix is allowanced fingerprinting code to a user' authority and embedded into a content. In the proposed algorithm, the feature points were drawing from a content which user bought, with based on these to design the dynamical multimedia fingerprinting code. The candidate codes of ACC which satisfied BIBD's v and k+1 condition is registered in the codebook, and then a matrix is generated(Below that it calls "Rhee matrix") with ${\lambda}+1$ condition. In the experimental results, the codevector of Rhee matrix based on a feature point of the content is generated to exist k in the confidence interval at the significance level ($1-{\alpha}$). Euclidean distances between row and row and column and column each other of Rhee matrix is working out same k value as like the compliment matrices based on BIBD and Graph. Moreover, first row and column of Rhee matrix are an initial firing vector and to be a forensic mark of content protection. Because of the connection of the rest codevectors is reported in the codebook, when trace a colluded code, it isn't necessity to solve a correlation coefficient between original fingerprinting code and the colluded code but only search the codebook then a trace of the colluder is easy. Thus, the generated Rhee matrix in this paper has an excellent robustness and fidelity more than the mathematically generated matrix based on BIBD as ACC.

This paper proposes a speech synthesis method using Fuzzy VQ, and then study how to make
choice of fuzziness value which optimizes (controls) the performance of FVQ in order to obtain the
synthesized speech which is closer to the original speech. When FVQ is used to synthesize a speech,
analysis stage generates membership function values which represents the degree to which an input
speech pattern matches each speech patterns in codebook, and synthesis stage reproduces a
synthesized speech, using membership function values which is obtained in analysis stage, fuzziness
value, and fuzzy-c-means operation. By comparsion of the performance of the FVQ and VQ
synthesizer with simmulation, we show that, although the FVQ codebook size is half of a VQ
codebook size, the performance of FVQ is almost equal to that of VQ. This results imply that, when
Fuzzy VQ is used to obtain the same performance with that of VQ in speech synthesis, we can reduce
by half of memory size at a codebook storage. And then we have found that, for the optimized FVQ
with maximum SQNR in synthesized speech, the fuzziness value should be small when the variance
of analysis frame is relatively large, while fuzziness value should be large, when it is small. As a
results of comparsion of the speeches synthesized by VQ and FVQ in their spectrogram of frequency
domain, we have found that spectrum bands(formant frequency and pitch frequency) of FVQ
synthesized speech are closer to the original speech than those using VQ.

Traditional vector quantization (VQ) schemes encode image blocks as VQ indices, in which there is significant similarity between the image block and the codeword of the VQ index. Thus, the method can compress an image and maintain good image quality. This paper proposes a novel lossless VQ indices compression algorithm to further compress the VQ index table. Our scheme exploits the high correlation of adjacent image blocks to search for the same VQ index with the current encoding index from the neighboring indices. To increase compression efficiency, codewords in the codebook are sorted according to the degree of similarity of adjacent VQ indices to generate a state codebook to find the same index with the current encoding index. Note that the repetition indices both on the search path and in the state codebooks are excluded to increase the possibility for matching the current encoding index. Experimental results illustrated the superiority of our scheme over other compression schemes in the index domain.
This paper presents a method for speech recognition using multi-section vector-quantization (MSVQ) and time-delay recurrent neural network (TDTNN). The MSVQ generates the codebook with normalized uniform sections of voice signal, and the TDRNN performs the speech recognition using the MSVQ codebook. The TDRNN is a time-delay recurrent neural network classifier with two different representations of dynamic context: the time-delayed input nodes represent local dynamic context, while the recursive nodes are able to represent long-term dynamic context of voice signal. The cepstral PLP coefficients were used as speech features. In the speech recognition experiments, the MSVQ/TDRNN speech recognizer shows 97.9 % word recognition rate for speaker independent recognition.
In this paper, we propose a codebook-based interference alignment (IA) scheme in the constant multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interference channel especially for the uplink scenario. In our proposed scheme, we assume cooperation among base stations (BSs) through reliable backhaul links so that global channel knowledge is available for all BSs, which enables BS to compute he transmit precoder and inform its quantized index to the associated user via limited rate feedback link. We present an upper bound on the rate loss of the proposed scheme and derive the scaling law of the feedback load to maintain a constant rate loss relative to IA with perfect channel knowledge. Considering the impact of overhead due to training, cooperation, and feedback, we address the effective degrees of freedom (DOF) of the proposed scheme and derive the maximization of the effective DOF. From simulation results, we verify our analysis on the scaling law to preserve the multiplexing gain and confirm that the proposed scheme is more effective than the conventional IA scheme in terms of the effective DOF.

Since Jacquine introduced the image coding algorithm using fractal theory, many fractal image compression algorithms providing good quality at low bit rate have been proposed by Fisher and Beaumount et al.. But a problem of the previous implementations is that the decoding rests on an iterative procedure whose complexity is image -dependent. This paper proposes an iterative-free fractal image decoding algorithm to reduce the decoding time. In the proposed method, under the encoder previously with the same codebook image as an initial image to be used at the decoder, the fractal coefficients are obtained through calculating the similarity between the codebook image and a input image to be encoded. As the decoding process can be completed with received fractal coefficients and predefined initial image without repeated iterations, the decoding time could be remarkably reduced.
