The Pusan clays are soft and thick deposits and in some places, they reach even up to 50-70m. So, the pile foundations are inevitable in almost all cases. But they are significantly expansive when the length of the pile reaches about 70m. In this study, a comprehensive parametric study has been carried out in order to reduce the pile length and number of piles required in turn the cost of the foundation for particular building. A belled shaft pile has been optimized for a typical soil profile using the PLAXIS (FEM code). These results have shown a new direction of the pile foundation in Pusan, Korea. The results including the variation of contact pressures at the bottom of the bell, optimization of the angle of the bell and height of the bell in terms of the diameter of the shaft. And also, the design curves have been generated so that they can be directly used for design of belled shaft foundations. However, the structural strength criterion is being checked in the concerned laboratory.
Optimizing the performance of deep neural networks on embedded systems is a challenging task that requires efficient compilers and runtime systems. We propose a TVM-based approach that consists of three steps: quantization, auto-scheduling, and ahead-of-time compilation. Our approach reduces the computational complexity of models without significant loss of accuracy, and generates optimized code for various hardware platforms. We evaluate our approach on three representative CNNs using ImageNet Dataset on the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier board and show that it outperforms baseline methods in terms of processing speed.
Geneal Structure optimization is utilized to minimize the weight of structures while satisfying constraints imposed on stress, displacements and natural frequencies, etc. Sandwich structures consist of inside core and outside face sheets. The selected sandwich structures are isotropic sandwich beams and isotropic sandwich plate. The face sheets are treated as membrane and assumed to carry only tensions, while the core is assumed to carry only transverse shear. The characteristic of the varying area are considered by adding the projected component of the tension to the transverse shear. The bending theory and energy method are adopted for analyzing sandwich beams and plates, respectively. In the optimization process, the cost function is the weight of a structure, and a deflection and stress constraints are considered. Design variable are thickness and tapering coefficients which determine the shape of a structure. An existing optimization code is used for solving the formulated problems.
A new design approach for a delicate treatment of complex geometries such as a wing/body configuration is arranged using overset mesh technique under large scale computing environment for turbulent viscous flow. Various pre- and post-processing techniques which are required of overset flow analysis and sensitivity analysis codes are discussed for design optimization problems based on gradient based optimization method (GBOM). The overset flow analysis code is validated by comparing with the experimental data of a wing/body configuration (DLR-F4) from the 1st Drag Prediction Workshop (DPW-I). In order to examine the applicability of the present design tools, careful design works for the drag minimization problem of a wing/body configuration are carried out by using the developed aerodynamic shape optimization tools for the viscous flow over multiple-body aircraft geometries.
This paper presents an optimization cutting speed(OCS) program developed to improve the machining precision and tool life in high speed machining using ball end milling. This program optimized the cutting speed that is changing at any time in free surface machining of an automobile part like a connecting load die. The technique of optimization cutting speed makes the CAD/CAM-generated NC code go through a reverse post process, conducts cutting simulation, and obtain the effective tool diameter of the ball end milling. Then it changes the spindle revolution to within the range of critical cutting speed fit for the material of the workpieces depending upon the effective tool diameter. In this study, the machining precision and tool life were compared for the two connecting load dies processed using the general cutting method and the proposed optimization cutting speed technique, respectively.
In this present work, Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm (ABCA) is used to optimize the stacking sequences of simply supported antisymmetric laminated composite plates with criticial buckling load as the objective functions. The fibre orientations of the layers are selected as the optimization design variables with the aim to find the optimal laminated plates. In order to perform the optimization based on the ABCA, a special code is written in MATLAB software environment. Several numerical examples are presented to illustrate this optimization algorithm for different plate aspect ratios, number of layers and load ratios.
The paper represents an optimization algorithm for reinforced concrete retaining wall design. The proposed method, called Rao-3 optimization algorithm, is a recently developed algorithm. The total weight of the steel and concrete, which are used for constructing the retaining wall, were chosen as the objective function. Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete (ACI 318-05) and Rankine's theory for lateral earth pressure were considered for structural and geotechnical design, respectively. Number of the design variables are 12. Eight of those express the geometrical dimensions of the wall and four of those express the steel reinforcement of the wall. The safety against overturning, sliding and bearing capacity failure were regarded as the geotechnical constraints. The safety against bending and shear failure, minimum and maximum areas of reinforcement, development lengths of steel reinforcement were regarded as structural constraints. The performance of proposed algorithm was evaluated with two design examples.

In this study, the parameters of the feedwater control system (FWCS) of the OPR1000 type nuclear power plant (NPP) are optimized by response surface methodology (RSM) in order to acquire better level control performance from the FWCS. The objective of the optimization is to minimize the steam generator (SG) water level deviation from the reference level during transients. The objective functions for this optimization are relationships between the SG level deviation and the parameters of the FWCS. However, in this case of FWCS parameter optimization, the objective functions are not available in the form of analytic equations and the responses (the SG level at plant transients) to inputs (FWCS parameters) can be evaluated by computer simulations only. Classical optimization methods cannot be used because the objective function value cannot be calculated directely. Therefore, the simulation optimization methodology is used and the RSM is adopted as the simulation optimization algorithm. Objective functions are evaluated with several typical transients in NPPs using a system simulation computer code that has been utilized for the system performance analysis of actual NPPs. The results show that the optimized parameters have better SG level control performance. The degree of the SG level deviation from the reference level during transients is minimized and consequently the control performance of the FWCS is remarkably improved.
