  • In metalforming, ductile fracture criteria have been used for the purpose of predicting fracture occurrence in the stage of process design prior to manufacturing. In the present investigation, some of popular criteria are reviewed to find the most suitable one among them. As a result, it is found that the modified Cockroft and Latham criterion is better than others. The reasons are: it agrees with Roy's and McClintock's void growth models, it is more general than Oyane's and Kuhn's criteria, and it predicts fractures in compression as well as in tension well. However, it is also found that the criterion is incapable of predicting fractures in torsion.

  • Fasteners are used to join the various electronic products and machines. So, the quality and reliability of the fastener are strongly requested. In this study, the analyses of the multi-stage cold forging of TORX screws for storage parts are carried out. In manufacturing of TORX screws, crack and folding defects are observed. Therefore, the analysis is focused on the prediction of the defects. Based on the analysis results, the upper die and process conditions are redesigned to reduce the defects. The upper die shape for preform forming is redesigned to prevent folding and sharp shape change. The Cockroft-Latham damage criterion is introduced to predict the crack initiation. Analysis results shows that the maximum Cockroft-Latham damage value is decreased by 40% in the forming using the modified upper die.

  • In this work, finite element investigations were carried out to manufacture a seamless aluminum liner without crack generation using four-stage deep drawing followed by two-stage ironing process. In order to predict the crack generation during the liner manufacturing process, the Normalize Cockroft-Latham(NCL) which is one of ductile fracture criteria was adopted. In addition, the tensile tests were carried out to obtain the critical value of NCL by comparing the experimental and FE simulation results. From this, various case studies based on FE simulation were carried to obtain the optimum die designs which can prevent the crack generation during ironing processes. Finally, the aluminum liner was successfully made using obtained die designs so that requirements were met in terms of thickness and height of the liner.

  • In this strudy, the free-bulge test and FE analysis have been used to define the fracture criteria based on the cockroft and Latham's criterion in warm hydroforming of Al 6061 tube. Full annealing and T6 treatment for heat treatment of Al 6061 tube ware used in this study. As-extruded, full annealed and T6-treated Al 6061 seamless tubes were prepared. To evaluate the hydroformability, uni-axial tensile test and bulge test were performed between room temperature and $200^{\circ}C$. And measured flow stress was used to simulate the warm hydroforming. A commercial FEM code, DEFORM-$2D^{TM}$, was used to calculate the damage value. A forming limit based ductile fracture criteria has been proposed by the results of experimental and FE analysis. The calculated values for fracture criteria will be efficient to predict the forming limit in hydroforming for real complex shaped part.
