The present investigation on optical fiber mass manufacturing features the computational modeling and simulation on a double layer liquid coating process on glass fiber surface. The computational model employs a simplified geometry of typical fiber coating system which consists of primary and secondary coating dies along with secondary coating cup. The viscous dissipation in coating flow is incorporated into the double layer coating process simulations. Heavy temperature dependence of coating liquid viscosity is also considered in the model. The computational results found that the effects of viscous dissipation on both primary and secondary coating layer thicknesses are highly significant at higher drawing speed. Several important coating process parameters such as supply temperature and pressure of primary and secondary coating liquids are investigated and discussed in order to appreciate how those parameters affect the double layer coating layer thickness on fast moving glass fiber.

HVOF thermal spray coating of micron size Co-alloy powder has been studied for the durability improvement of high velocity spindle (HVS). Optimal coating process of this system for the best surface properties is hydrogen flow rate 75 FMR, oxygen flow rate 38-42 FMR, feed rate 30 g/min at spray distance 5 inch. Friction coefficient (FC) and wear trace (WT) decrease increasing coating surface temperature from 25$^{\circ}$C to 538$^{\circ}$C due to the higher lubricant effects of the oxides at the higher temperature. At the study of adhesion of T800 coating on a light metal alloy Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) tensile bond strength (TBS) and tensile fracture location (TFL) of Ti64/T800 are 8,740 psi and near middle of T800 coating respectively. This shows that adhesion of Ti64/T800 is higher than the cohesion strength (8,740 psi) of T800 coating. Therefore T800 coating is strongly advisable for the surface coating on HVS such as high speed air-bearing spindle.
In this study, using the general expressions predicting the pressure under a blade and the volume of coating fluid passing through the blade edge, it is predicted the change of the coating wet film thickness related with various parameters determining the characteristics of this blade coating process. Using the results of this research, it can be found the optimized coating wet film thickness taking into account the parameters related with various coating process on various metal surfaces will be able to be predicted.

Vacuum kinetic spray(VKS) is a relatively advanced process for fabricating thin/thick and dense ceramic coatings via submicron-sized particle impact at room temperature. However, unfortunately, the particle velocity, which is an important value for investigating the deposition mechanism, has not been clarified yet. Thus, in this research, VKS average particle velocities were derived by numerical analysis method(CFD: computational fluid dynamics) connected with an experimental approach(SCM: slit cell method). When the process gas or powder particles are accelerated by a compressive force generated by gas pressure in kinetic spraying, a tensile force generated by the vacuum in the VKS system accelerates the process gas. As a result, the gas is able to reach supersonic speed even though only 0.6MPa gas pressure is used in VKS. In addition, small size powders can be accelerated up to supersonic velocity by means of the drag-force of the low pressure process gas flow. Furthermore, in this process, the increase of gas flow makes the drag-force stronger and gas distribution more homogenized in the pipe, by which the total particle average velocity becomes higher and the difference between max. and min. particle velocity decreases. Consequently, the control of particle size and gas flow rate are important factors in making the velocity of particles high enough for successful deposition in the VKS system.

As the demand for petroleum resources increases, and oilfields on lands and in shallow-sea become exhausted, the areas for oil production are expanding to the deep sea and therefore technologies for flow assurance are coming into the highlight. In low temperature environment such as the deep sea, wax is accumulated and prevents stable oil production. Therefore, the development of flow assurance technologies is required. Wax is precipitated in crystalline form when the oil temperature decreases below the wax appearance temperature; it then accumulates on the inner walls of pipelines causing blockages. In particular, in subsea pipelines, which have a large surface contact area with the surrounding seawater, wax deposition problems are frequent. The internal tubular coating can effectively reduce wax deposition without pausing oil production when the coating is appropriately designed. This study carried out wax deposition tests on a number of internal tubular coatings under single flow conditions. The results were analyzed for the effects that the physical properties of the coatings had on wax deposition.

Plasma spraying process was employed to produce HA coating on Ti6A14V alloy for the development of a dental implant. The goal of this research was to find optimum spraying conditions for HA coating on Ti6Al4V. This study was thus designed carefully to evaluate how spraying parameters affect various physical properties of a HA coating layer, such as phase composition and bond strength. In plasma spraying, spraying parameters such as hydrogen flow rates and spraying distances were varied systematically to change the degree of the melting of starting HA powder in plasma jet. It was revealed that the deposition efficiency increased with increasing a hydrogen flow rate, and the bond strength between the HA-coated layer and Ti-alloy substrate increased with hydrogen flow rate, but decreased with spraying distance. Therefore, the hydrogen flow rate and the spraying distance should be carefully controlled to obtain the reasonable bond strength simultaneously.
HVOF thermal spray coating of 80%WC-CoFe powder is one of the most promising candidate for the replacement of the traditional hard chrome plating and hard ceramics coating because of the environmental problem of the very toxic $Cr^{6+}$ known as carcinogen by chrome plating and the brittleness of ceramics coatings. 80%WC-CoFe powder was coated by HVOF thermal spraying for the study of durability improvement of the high speed spindle such as air bearing spindle. The coating procedure was designed by the Taguchi program, including 4 parameters of hydrogen and oxygen flow rates, powder feed rate and spray distance. The surface properties of the 80%WC-CoFe powder coating were investigated roughness, hardness and porosity. The optimal condition for thermal spray has been ensured by the relationship between the spary parameters and the hardness of the coatings. The optimal coating process obtained by Taguchi program is the process of oxygen flow rate 34 FRM, hydrogen flow rate 57 FRM, powder feed rate 35 g/min and spray distance 8 inch. The coating cross-sectional structure was observed scanning electron microscope before chemical etching. Estimation of coating porosity was performed using metallugical image analysis. The Friction and wear behaviors of HVOF WC-CoFe coating prepared by OCP are investigated by reciprocating sliding wear test at $25^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$. Friction coefficients (FC) of coating decreases as sliding surface temperature increases from $25^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$.
The purpose of this study is to find how to be formed the wet film thickness during the low friction coating process for a piston skirt with application to the theory of screen printing. In other words, in this research, it is to derive the general expressions predicting the pressure under a blade and the volume of coating fluid passing through the blade edge. Using these expressions, it is to be approved that the current operation characteristics of a screen printing system to a sample blade coating process for low friction coating on a piston skirt can be quantitatively assessed.
Recent research results on viscocapillary models of various pre-metered coating flows such as curtain, slide, and slot coatings have been reviewed in this paper. Such one-dimensional models have been simplified from two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for viscous coating flows with free surfaces, using integral momentum balances and lubrication approximation. It has been found that these viscocapillary models is capable of predicting flow dynamics in various coating systems, providing the good agreement with results by 2-D models.
The aim of this study is the confirmation of the coating uniformity affected by the surface tension and wall attachment angle in a slit-coater model. In this work, we use the commercial code (Fluent) to solve the two-phase flow formed with air and photo resist numerically. The results show that the surface tension is the most important factor to determine the coating efficiency in the view of coating uniformity, and the coating uniformity is 2% for our slit-coater model and conditions. To improve the coating uniformity, it is in need of minimization of the sidewall effect of slit-coater.
