  • The synthesis of silver coated iron base alloy (Sendust : Fe-Si-Al) powder having the both effects of shielding and suppressing of electromagnetic wave was studied. Depending on thickness of silver coating layer, the electromagnetic properties of the dispersed particles complexed with organic binder were examined. It is proposed that the silver coated sendust flake powders with controlled electrical properties and thickness can be used as thin microwave absorbers in quasi-microwave frequency band.

  • Carbon nanotube(CNT) plays an essential role in various fields of nano based science and technology. Recently, silica coated CNT composites are interested because they are useful for the optical, magnetical, and catalytic applications. In this report, carboxyl groups were introduced on the MWCNT using nitric acid. In order to maximize the silica encapsulation efficiency, carboxyl groups of MWCNT reacted with a silane coupling agent were used to prepare silica coated MWCNT. Due to their strong interaction between modified MWCNT and TEOS. Silica layer with a controllable thickness was achieved. Silica coated MWCNT were further utilized as the template for the synthesis of hollow silica nanotubes after $800^{\circ}C$ calcination.

  • Micro-arc discharge oxidation (MDO) is a cost-effective plasma electrolytic process which can be used to improve the wear and corrosion resistance of Al-alloy parts by forming a alumina coating on the component surface. However, the MDO coated Al-alloy components often exhibit relatively high friction coefficients and low wear resistance fitted with many counterface materials, additionally, the pitting corrosion for the MDO coated AI-alloy components, especially for a thinner alumina coating, often occurs in atmosphere circumstance due to the porous alumina coats. Therefore, a duplex treatment, combining a MDO coated ahumina thin layer with a TiN coating, prepared by magnetron sputtering (MS), has been investigated. The Vicker's microhardness, pin-on-disc, electrochemical measurement, salt spray, XRD and SEM tests were used to characterize and analyze the treated samples. The work demonstrates that the MDO/MS coated samples have a combination of a very low friction coefficient and good wear resistance as well as corrosion since the micro-holes on alumina coating are partly or fully covered by TiN material.

  • In this study, densified 4D carbon/carbon composites were made from carbon fiber and coal tar pitch through the process of pressure impregnation and carbonization and then followed by carbonization and graphitization. To improve the oxidative resistance of the prepared carbon/carbon composites, the surface of carbon/carbon composites was coated on SiC by the pack cementation method. The SiC coated layer was created by depending on the constitution of pack powder, and reaction time of pack-cementation. The morpology of crystalline and texture of these SiC coated carbon/carbon composites were investigated by XRD, SEM/EDS observation. So the coating mechanism of pack-cementation process was proposed. The oxidative res istance were observed through the air oxidation test, and then the optimal condition of pack cementation was found by them. Besides, the oxidative mechanism of SiC formed was proposed through the observation of SiC coated surface, which was undergone by oxidation test.

  • Grain boundary chemistry and electrical characteristics of polycrystalline BaTiO3 ceramics, which were prepared with sol-gel surface-coated semiconducting powders, were investigated. Mn ions were coated on the powder surface by sol-gel coating-techniques. The additives coated on the surface of the powders were observed to be present near the grain boundaries of the ceramics. The ceramics exhibit the PTCR characteristics with a resistivity jump ratio(Pmax/Pmin) of about 2$\times$103. With raising the temperature from room temprature to 20$0^{\circ}C$, the oxidation state of the Mn ions varied from Mn3+ to Mn2+ in the coating layers. Near the grain boundaries an excessive negative charge layer of about 20nm was formed.

  • To manufacture YBCO-coated conductors as superconducting fault current limiters, it is important to conduct researches on their durability. To test their durability, it is necessary to investigate their properties before and after the quench in more severe conditions than in general operating conditions. In this study, their voltage-current and resistance properties were measured before and after a fault current was repetitively applied to them. For the applied voltage, the voltage grades of the YBCO coated conductors were considered. The current amplitude was controlled using protective resistance on an experimental track, and the time and number of applications were fixed to produce the quench occurrence at the fault angles of $0^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$. The operating conditions of the YBCO coated conductors as the main components of superconducting fault current limiters were determined using their voltage properties. The voltage properties of the YBCO coated conductors that were analyzed in this research will be used as important data for their practical application to superconducting fault current limiters.

  • In this study, surface morphology and mechanical property of TiN and DLC coated pedicle screw have been investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, vickers hardness test, axial gripping, and axial torsional gripping capacity test. From the EDS and XRD results, the composition and crystal structure of TiN and DLC coated surface were verified. The hardness value was increased by TIN and DLC coating, and the DLC coating surface has the highest value. The gripping capacity also showed higher value for TiN and DLC coated specimen than that of non-coated (Ti alloy) surface. The surface morphology of gripping tested specimen showed rougher scratched surface from Ti alloy than TiN and DLC coated layer.

  • This paper describes experiments aimed at characterizing the behavior of field electron emitters fabricated by coating carbon fibers with epoxylite resin. Polyacrylonitrile carbon fibers of type VPR-19, thermally treated at $2,800^{\circ}C$, were used. Each was initially prepared in a "uncoated" state, by standard electro polishing and cleaning techniques, and was then examined in a scanning electron microscope. The fiber was then baked overnight in a field electron microscope (FEM) vacuum chamber. Current-voltage characteristics and FEM images were recorded on the following day or later. The fiber was then removed from the FEM, coated with resin, "cured" by baking, and replaced in the FEM. After another overnight bake, the FEM characterization measurements were repeated. The coated fibers had significantly better performance than uncoated fibers. This confirms the results of earlier experiments, and is thought to be due in part to the formation of a conducting channel in the resin over layer. For the coated fiber, lower voltages were needed to obtain the same emission current. The coated fibers have current-voltage characteristics that show smoother trends, with greater stability and repeatability. No switch-on phenomena were observed. In addition, the emission images on the phosphor-coated FEM screen were more concentrated, and hence brighter.

  • The YBCO coated conductor is an important element that forms the superconducting power equipment. The first advantage of applying YBCO coated conductor to superconducting power equipment is that it can effectively addresses the normal and fault currents using less quantity of wire than when using Bi tape due to its high critical current density. Second, it can limit the fault current fast because its index value is high. so that the resistance can be produced fast when it is applied to the superconducting current limiting element. Third, the type of stabilization layer that surrounds the YBCO superconductor is selectable and the magnitude of the resistance that is produced from quenching can be adjusted. This study researched into the manufacture of current-limiting element of using YBCO coated conductor, into the characteristics of current limiter that considered by combining the manufactured element with the resistive-type superconducting fault current limiter.

  • The conventional coated paper has many functional problems for printed RFID tag. This study was carried out in order to evaluate the effect of coating color components on conductivity of printed coated paper. It has been well known that the efficiency of printed RFID tag is influenced by surface properties of substrate. The required properties for suitable substrate of printed RFID tag are high smoothness and waterproof property. In this study high grammage base paper surface sized with PVA was used. Coated paper was manufactured with five different formulations. Types of coating pigments and dosage of latex were varied. It was obtained high smoothness and also less binder demand with clay than GCC. On the other hand, suitable surface resistance and smoothness of coated paper for RFID tag was obtained with 20% of latex. Besides it shows the possibility of using coated paper for printed RFID tag.
