  • In coastal video monitoring, the direct linear transform (DLT) method with ground control points (GCPs) is commonly used for geo-rectification. However, current practices often overlook the impact of GCP quantity, arrangement, and the geographical characteristics of beaches. To address this, we designed scenarios at Chuam Beach to evaluate how factors such as the distance from the camera to GCPs, the number of GCPs, and the height of each point affect the DLT method. Accuracy was assessed by calculating the root mean square error of the distance errors between the actual GCP coordinates and the image coordinates for each setting. This analysis aims to propose an optimal GCP placement method. Our results show that placing GCPs within 200 m of the camera ensures high accuracy with few points, whereas positioning them at strategic heights enhances shoreline extraction. However, since only fixed cameras were used in this study, factors like varying heights, orientations, and resolutions could not be considered. Based on data from a single location, we propose an optimal method for GCP placement that takes into account distance, number, and height using the DLT method.

  • For a nonlinear control system, there are many uncertainties, such as the structural model, controlled parameters and external loads. Although the significant progress has been achieved on the robust control of nonlinear systems through some researches on this issue, there are still some limitations, for instance, the complicated solving process, weak conservatism of system, involuted structures and high order of controllers. In this study, the computational structural mechanics and optimal control theory are adopted to address above problems. The induced norm is the eigenvalue problem in structural mechanics, i.e., the elastic stable Euler critical force or eigenfrequency of structural system. The segment mixed energy is introduced with a precise integration and an extended Wittrick-Williams (W-W) induced norm calculation method. This is then incorporated in the market-based control (MBC) theory and combined with the force analogy method (FAM) to solve the MBC robust strategy (R-MBC) of nonlinear systems. Finally, a single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) system and a 9-stories steel frame structure are analyzed. The results are compared with those calculated by the $H{\infty}$-robust (R-$H{\infty}$) algorithm, and show the induced norm leads to the infinite control output as soon as it reaches the critical value. The R-MBC strategy has a better control effect than the R-$H{\infty}$ algorithm and has the advantage of strong strain capacity and short online computation time. Thus, it can be applied to large complex structures.

  • The electro-hydraulic servo winch system built in a automatic tension control equipment was designed with a latent need for an advanced system in fishing operations of the inshore and coastal fishing vessels. In order to keep the constant tension condition of warp under loading, a tension control circuit was added to the servo winch system. The dynamic performance in the open loop behaviour of the designed winch system was investigated and its applicability was tested for various possibilities of load using a load generator especially developed in order to this study. The mechanical characteristics of this system is different from that of a conventional type, that is, the tension, length, line speed and drum revolution can be automatically controlled by the information from various sensors, such as torque, rpm and pressure transducers. from the experiment results, it was verified that the servo winch system has very good output and tracking behaviour for the control input signals in different operating conditions though overshoot of out 8% in the transient characteristics of torque under the load though a overshoot of about 8% in the transient characteristics of torque under the load condition can be observed when the opening of servo valve, adjustable by the input voltage between - 10 V up to 10 V, changed suddenly.Consequently, the improved fishing winch system can be effectively used as the automatic shooting and hauling equipment of low cost for small inshore and coastal fishing vessels which engage in net fishing.

  • Warm or waste water discharged from offshore-based facilities often causes environmental polution as it is transported to coastal area due to tidal actions. In this research a floating-type current control structure is introduced in order to reduce the pollutant spreading in the coastal area. Effectivenss of the structure is investigated through the numerical experiment which is based on a 3-D finite difference multi-level scheme. The warm-water spreading in the bay is reduced when the draft of the structure increases and its optimum draft is found to be between 0.25h and 0.65h, where h is the water depth. The proposed structure is also tested in the Gohyun Bay and it ts proven to be applied to controllling pollutant spreading if its draft is properly chosen.

  • Soil liquefaction by tsunami or wave induced currents can cause serious damages to coastlines and coastal infrastructures. Although liquefaction caused by regular waves over sea beds has been extensively investigated, studies of tsunami-induced liquefaction near coastal area have been relatively rare. In this work, the hydraulic scale model has been designed and constructed to investigate the variations of wave height and sediment transport by tsunami. The distorted hydraulic scale model based on the Froude similarity was adopted to represent hydrodynamics and sediment transport in a coastal area. The scale model was composed of control box, screw axis, wave paddle and rotating coastal structure.

  • This paper is mainly concerned with the development of a remotely operated vehicle for investigation of the coastal sea. For this, we have designed and constructed a vehicle entitled KMU-ROV(Korea Maritime University Remotely Operated Vehicle), for purpose of investigation mission under 50(m) of the sea surface. We have designed six independent waterproof actuators and the housing of the controller for underwater operation. For six degree-of-freedom motion, we have analyzed the dynamics of the KMU-ROV and have designed a new composition of six actuators including the driving system. For motion control, we have composed a concurrent velocity control algorithm for controlling the speed of all the actuating motors. The control system for the KMU-ROV is composed of a master DSP controller, DSP controller for the motor control and various sensors. We composed the PID control algorithm and a network system for controlling motors using the CAN communication. The performance of the KMU-ROV was presented by testing the developed control algorithm and control system under the water.

  • Continuous measurement of nearshore waves around Korea over long period is very demanding to setup plans for prevention of disasters of port and coastal structures. In this respect, a new web-based system, termed as WINK, was established, which collects nearshore wave data from Korea Meteorological Agency (KMA), Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency (KHOA), and Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) and provide them after quality control of the data. This paper describes technical aspects regarding collection and selection of the wave observation data, construction of wave hindcasting data, the methodology of quality control for the selected wave data, and overall process of building the web-based data providing system.

  • In this study, the effect of sea surface temperature (SST) on the distribution of vertical wind speed in the atmospheric boundary layer of coastal areas was analyzed. In general, coastal areas are known to be more susceptible to various meteorological factors than inland areas due to interannual changes in sea surface temperature. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between sea surface temperature (ERA5) and wind resource data based on the meteorological mast of Høvsøre, the test bed area of the onshore wind farm in the coastal area of Denmark. In addition, the possibility of coastal disasters caused by abnormal vertical wind shear due to changes in sea surface temperature was also analyzed. According to the analysis of the correlation between the wind resource data at met mast and the sea surface temperature by ERA5, the wind speed from the sea and the vertical wind shear are stronger than from the inland, and are vulnerable to seasonal sea surface temperature fluctuations. In particular, the abnormal vertical wind shear, in which only the lower wind speed was strengthened and appeared in the form of a nose, mainly appeared in winter when the atmosphere was near-neutral or stable, and all occurred when the wind blows from the sea. This phenomenon usually occurred when there was a sudden change in sea surface temperature within a short period of time.

  • Coastal erosion happens frequently in many different types. To control coastal erosion zone effectively and establish response plans, we need to accumulate data indicating topography changes through monitoring the erosion situation continuously. UAV photogrammetric systems, which can fly autonomously at a low altitude, are recommended as an economical and precision means to monitor the coastal zones. In this study, we aim to verify the accuracy of the generated orthoimages and DEM as a result of processing the UAV data of a coastal zone by comparing them with various reference data. We established a verification routine and examined the possibilities of applying the UAV photogrammetric systems to monitoring coastal erosion by checking the analyzed accuracy by the routine. As a result of verifying the generated the geospatial information from acquired data under various configurations, the horizontal and vertical accuracy (RMSE) were about 2.7 cm and 4.8 cm respectively, which satisfied 5 cm, the accuracy required for coastal erosion monitoring.
