레이저 Remelting 처리된 Co 기지 하드페이싱 합금의 미세조직 특성 (The Microstructure Characteristics of Laser Remelted Cobalt-Based Hardfacing Alloys)

  • Laser remelting of surface of cobalt-based hardfacing alloy can eliminate impurities and cracks and improve the wear resistance. In this present study, Stellite ${\sharp}6\;and\;{\sharp}21$ harfacing alloys were remelted by a 3kW CO2 laser. Hardness distribution and microstructures in the laser remelted zone was investigated. Our results showed that in proper laser parameters laser remelted surface of hardfacing alloy had more refined microstructure and more increased micro-hardness than the base material.

Wear Mechanism of Plasma-Sprayed Coating in Mo- and Co-Based Alloy

  • Wear and friction behavior of plasma-sprayed coatings in Mo- and Co-based alloy were studied for the application of piston-ring automobile engine. The plasma-sprayed coatings were varied with gun current density, gas flow, and distance. The surface roughness, microhardness, and wear volume were measured depending on the spray distances. The high temperature hardness value were also measured as a function of temperature. Ball-on-disc geometry configuration tribometer was utilized in air. The wear tests were performed in the temperature ranges from room temperature to 825$^{\circ}$C to investigate the tribological trend of the piston-ring materials in the lack of lubricant. The cross sections of wear track were investigated, using microscopy.

Texture Study in HDDR-treated Nd-Fe-B-type Particles

  • Effects of the disproportionating hydrogen pressure and alloy composition on the texture in the HDDR-treated Nd-Fe-B particles were examined using the $Nd_{12.6}Fe_{81.4}B_6$ and $Nd_{12.6}Fe_{68.7}B_6Co_{11.0}Ga_{1.0}Zr_{0.l}$ alloys. Disproportionation kinetics of the $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ phase in the Nd-Fe-B alloy was retarded significantly by the addition of Co, Ga and Zr. The retarded disproportionation kinetics of the $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ phase ensured a wider processing win­dow in terms of disproportionating hydrogen pressure for achieving a texture in the HDDR-treated Nd-Fe-B alloy particles.

Magnetic, Magneto-Optical, and Transport Properties of Ordered and Disordered 3d-Transition Metal Aluminide Films

  • The influence of the order-disorder structural transition on the magnetic and mageto-optical, and transport properties of Fe-Al and Co-Al alloy films has been investigated. The disordered states in the alloy films were prepared by vapor quenching deposition on glass substrates cooled by liquid nitrogen. The experimental study of the magento-optical properties of the ordered and disordered Fe-Al and Co-Al alloy films has been carried out in 1.05-5.0 eV energy range at room temperature. The transport properties have been measured in 2-300K temperature range with and without magnetic field of 0.5T. The influence of the order-disorder structural transition on the magnetic and magneto-optical properties was discussed by using the effective medium approximation and the structural defect approach. That on the temperature dependence of the resistivity was analyzed in a framework of the partial localization of the electronic states and the variable range hopping conductivity.

  • Ta-Ti metal alloy is proposed for alternate gate electrode of ULSI MOS device. Ta-Ti alloy was deposited directly on $SiO_2$ by a co-sputtering method and good interface property was obtained. The sputtering power of each metal target was 100W. Thermal and chemical stability of the electrode was studied by annealing at $500^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ in Ar ambient. X-ray diffraction was measured to study interface reaction and EDX(energy dispersive X-ray) measurement was performed to investigate composition of Ta and Ti element. Electrical properties were evaluated on MOS capacitor, which indicated that the work function of Ta-Ti metal alloy was ${\sim}4.1eV$ compatible with NMOS devices. The measured sheet resistance of alloy was lower than that of poly silicon.

  • High temperature deformation behavior of a $Ni_{30}Fe_{53}Co_{17}$ alloy, with its extraordinary low coefficient of thermal expansion less than $10{\times}10^{-6}K^{-1}$ at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 673K, was investigated by conducting a series of compression tests. From an empirical processing map, the appropriate working temperature-strain rate combination for optimum forming was deduced to be in the ~1373K, $10^{-2}s^{-1}$ region. This region has a relatively high power dissipation efficiency, greater than 0.36. Furthermore, open die forging of a 100mm diameter billets was performed to confirm the variation of thermo-physical properties in relation to microstructure. The coefficient of thermal expansion was found to increase considerably with increasing the open die forging temperature and decreasing the cooling rate, which in turn provides a drastic increase in the average grain size.

  • Surface alloying of Ti alloy by $CO_2$ laser is able to produce few hundred micrometers thick TiN or TiC surface-alloyed layer with high hardness on the substrate by injecting reaction gas($N_2$ or $CH_4$). Laser surface alloying by means of process control is in many applications essential in order to obtain predictable hardening layer. This research has been investigated the effect of such parameters on TiN and TiC gas alloying of Ti-6Al-4V alloy by $CO_2$ laser. The maximum surface hardness of TiN layer was obtained 1750Hv on the conditions of 0.8kW laser power, 0.8m/min scanning speed and 100% $N_2$ atmosphere. However, the maximum hardness of TiC formation layer after laser treatment was about 630Hv. As scanning speed was increased, the hardness and depth of these layers were decreased at constant laser power.

Effect of Co-Substitution on the Crystallization and Magnetic Properties of a Mechanically Milled Nd15(Fe1-xCox)77B8 (x=0-0.6) Alloy

  • Mechanical milling technique is considered to be a useful way of processing the fine Nd-Fe-B-type powder with high coercivity. In the present study, phase evolution of the $Nd_{15}(Fe_{1-x}Co_{x})_{77}B_{8}$ (x=0-0.6) alloys during the high energy mechanical milling and annealing was investigated. The effect of Co-substitution on the crystallization of the mechanically milled $Nd_{15}(Fe_{1-x}Co_{x})_{77}B_{8}$ amorphous material was examined. The Nd-Fe-B-type alloys can be amorphized completely by a high-energy mechanical milling. On annealing of the amorphous material, fine $\alpha$-Fe crystallites form first from the amorphous. These fine $\alpha$-Fe crystallites reacts with the remaining amorphous afterwards, leading to crystallization to $Nd_2Fe_{14}$B phase. The Co-substitution for Fe in $Nd_{15}(Fe_{1-x}Co_{x})_{77}B_{8}$ ($\mu$x=0∼0.6) alloys lower significantly the crystallization temperature of the amorphous phase to the $Nd_2Fe_{14}$B phase. The mechanically milled and annealed $Nd_{15}Fe_{77}B_8$ alloy without Co-substitution exhibits consistently better magnetic properties with respect to the alloys with Co-substitution.

Ni-W 합금도금용 불용성 양극의 제조 및 특성 연구 (Preparation and Characterization of Insoluble Anodes for Electrodeposition of Ni-W Alloys in Ammoniacal Citrate Bath)

  • Insoluble anodes of the Ta/Ir mixed metal oxide for electrodeposition of Ni-W alloy in ammoniacal citrate bath were prepared by thermal decomposition method. Ti plate was etched in boiling oxalic acid solution and coated with ethanol solution of $TaCl_{5}$ and $IrCl_4$ mixed in a fixed ratio, followed by drying and treating at various temperatures. The coating layer of these insoluble anode was characterized by SEM, EDX, XRD and DSC. The decomposition rate of citric acid in plating bath was determined by measuring the $CO_2$ gas evolved at the anodes with Gas Chromatography. Evolution of $CO_2$ gas from Ta/Ir oxide anodes decreased about 5% compared with that of Pt. The $CO_2$ gas evolution was increased with the amount of Ir-oxide in the coatings. The coatings which have more than 40% ratio of Ta content and heat-treated at the temperature higher than $400^{\circ}C$ showed better efficiency
