We have produced $Co_{1-x}Pt_{x}(X\;=\;0.53\;and\;0.75)$ alloy films by DC magnetron sputtering at various substrate temperatures and sputtering pressures. Sputter-deposited Co-Pt alloy films showed a strong (111) texture, and the degree of (111) texture of the as-deposited film was found to depend on the substrate temperature and Ar pressure. However, we observed that the degree of (111) texture did not affect the magnetic properties. In addition, we have investigated the effect of heat-treatment on magnetic properties of these films. While the magnetic properties of the $Co_{0.25}Pt_{0.75}$ alloy films showed no noticeable changes, the coercivities and the squarenesses of the $Co_{0.47}Pt_{0.53}$ alloy films were drastically increased by annealing. Structural analysis using transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and x-ray diffractornetry(XRD) revealed that $CoPt(L1_{0})$ and $CoPt_3(L1_{2})$ ordered phases, respectively, were formed, each with a strong (111) texture. By comparing the magnetic properties between $CoPt(L1_{0})$ and $CoPt_3(L1_{2})$ ordered phases in relation to the atomic arrangements in a unit cell, we conclude that the magnetic anisotropy in the Co-Pt alloy system depends mainly on the atomic arrangements of Co and Pt.
Sputtering conditions and various underlayer such as Al, Cu, Ni, Cr, Ag, Mg, Fe, Co, Pd, Au, Pt, Mo and Hf were investigated for coercivity enhancement of 20 nm Ti/CoCrPt thin films in order to increase the coercivity of the films thinner than 20 nm. Among them, Ag and Mg were effective to increase the coercivity. Particularly 2 nm Ag was very effective to increase the coercivity and nucleation field as well as to reduce ${\alpha}$ value in CoCrPt thin film such that the coercivity of 2 nm Ag/18 nm Ti/10 nm CoCrPt film was 2200 Oe. However, it seemed that other coercivity enhancement mechanism operated in CoCrPt films because Ti (002) preferred texture was not developed with Ag underlayer contrary to a general expectation. And the coercivity and nucleation field were decreased when glass substrate with rougher surface was used.
$Pt-SnO_{2-x}$ thin film sensing devices has been fabricated by thermal oxidation of stacked Pt-Sn thin film on the heater. The thickness of Sn thin film deposited by thermal evaporation was $4000{\AA}$ and the thickness of Pt deposited by D. C. sputtering on Sn thin film was $14{\sim}71{\AA}$ range. The XRD analysis show that the $Pt-SnO_{2-x}$ thin films are formed by grains with a diameter of about $200{\AA}$ randomly connected and the crystalline phase of the thin films are preferentally oriented in the (110) direction. $Pt-SnO_{2-x}$ thin film device (Pt thickness : $43{\AA}$) to 6000 ppm CO shows the sensitivity of 80% and high selectivity to CO. And the operating temperature and the thermal oxidation temperature of $Pt-SnO_{2-x}$ thin film device with high sensitivity to CO were $200^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$, respectively.
Change of magnetic properties in CoCrPt/Ti perpendicular media with varying CoCrPt film thickness has been studied. As the CoCrPt film thickness increases from 25 nm, the Ms (saturation magnetization) increases rapidly at first and then more gradually. This Ms behavior is associated primarily with the formation of an "amorphous-like"reacted layer created by intermixing of CoCrPt and Ti at the CoCrPt/Ti interface and secondarily with a change of the Cr segregation mode with varying CoCrPt film thickness. Magnetic domain structure distinctively changes with increasing CsCrPt magnetic layer (ML) thickness. Also the strength of exchange coupling measured from the slope in the demagnetizing region of the M-H loop changes with ML thickness. The expansion of lattice parameters a and c at smaller film thickness suggests that the Cr segregation mode may be connected with the residual stress of the films. Finally, the negative nucleation field (Hn) shows a unique behavior with the change of strength of the exchange interaction.teraction.

Change of magnetic properties in CoCrPt/Ti perpendicular media with varying CoCrPt films thickness has been studied. As CoCrPt films thickness increase, the Ms(magnetization saturation) drastically increases at thinner thickness and gradually increases with further increase in thickness from 25nm. This Ms behaviour is associated with primarily the formation of "amorphous-like" reacted layer by intermixing of CoCrPt and Ti at CoCrPt/Ti interface and secondarily change of Cr segregation mode with varying the CoCrPt films thickness. Magnetic domain structure distinctively changes with increasing CoCrPt magnetic layer(ML) thickness. Also the strength of exchange coupling measured from the slope in demagnetizing region in M-H loop changes with ML thickness. Details of the above magnetic properties will be discussed. The expansion of lattice parameters a and c at thinner thickness suggests that Cr segregation mode may be connected with the residual stress of the films. Finally, negative nucleation field(Hn) behaviour with the exchange slope will be reported.
CO-tolerant PtMo/C alloy electrocatalyst was prepared by a colloidal method, and its electrocatalytic activity toward CO oxidation was investigated. Electrochemical study revealed that the alloy catalyst significantly enhanced catalytic activity toward the electro-oxidation of CO compared to Pt/C counterpart. Cyclic voltammetry suggested that Mo plays an important role in promoting CO electro-oxidation by facilitating the formation of active oxygen species. The effect of Mo on the electronic structure of Pt was investigated using X-ray absorption spectroscopy to elucidate the synergetic effect of alloying. Our in-depth spectroscopic analysis revealed that CO is less strongly adsorbed on PtMo/C catalyst than on Pt/C catalyst due to the modulation of the electronic structure of Pt d-band. Our investigation shows that the enhanced CO electrooxidation in PtMo alloy electrocatalyst is originated from two factors; one comes from the facile formation of active oxygen species, and the other from the weak interaction between Pt and CO.
This study was conducted to investigate the characteristics of CO oxidation by NO poisoning in Pt/TiO2 catalyst prepared by wet impregnation method and calcined at 400 ℃. In order to confirm the NO poisoning effect of the Pt/TiO2 catalyst, the change of reaction activity was observed when NO was injected during the CO+O2 reaction where it was ascertained that the CO conversion rate rapidly decreased below 200 ℃. Also, CO conversion was not observed below 125 ℃. Recovery of initial CO conversion was not verified even if NO injection was blocked at 125 ℃. Accordingly, various analyses were performed according to NO injection. First, as a result of the TPD analysis, it was confirmed that NO pre-adsorption in catalyst inhibited CO adsorption and conversion desorption from adsorbed CO to CO2. When NO was pre-adsorbed, it was confirmed through H2-TPR analysis that the oxygen mobility of the catalyst was reduced. In addition, it was validated through FT-IR analysis that the redox cycle (Pt2+→Pt0→Pt2+) of the catalyst was inhibited. Therefore, the presence of NO in the Pt/TiO2 catalyst was considered to be a poisoning factor in the CO oxidation reaction, and it was determined that the oxygen mobility of the catalyst is required to prevent NO poisoning.
CO adsorbates on the surface of Pt supported on carbon catalysts (Pt/C) were investigated by CO stripping voltammetry. Three types of CO adsorbed samples were prepared: by methanol dehydrogenation only (COm), by CO gas bubbling only (COg), and by methanol dehydrogenation followed by CO gas bubbling (COm+g). Our coverage data show that CO gas can be adsorbed on Pt/C catalyst already saturated with CO adsorbates by methanol dehydrogenation. The COm+g sample showed the properties of both COm as well as COg samples in terms of the potential although the CO adsorbed by dehydrogenation was completely exchanged with CO in the electrolyte solution. Therefore, the oxidation pathways of CO on Pt/C were observed to depend on the initial adsorption conditions of CO more strongly than on the CO coverage. Our results imply that an initial CO poisoning condition in fuel cell operation is an important factor to determine the difficulty in removing the adsorbed CO and confirm that the properties of the adsorbed CO do not change even with chemical replacement with CO in different conditions. In addition, our results indicate a low CO surface mobility on the Pt in an electrolyte solution.

Co-Pt alloy thin films were galvanostatically electrodeposited on Ru (30 nm)/Ta (5 nm)/Si (100) substrates from a amino-citrate based electrolyte. We used Ru(0002)-oriented buffer layers to control the crystallinity and orientation of the Co-Pt alloy thin films. The effect of solution temperature on the microstructure and magnetic properties of the Co-Pt alloy thin film was investigated. The samples were characterized by EDS, FESEM, XRD diffractometer using Cu $K{\alpha}$ radiation. The magnetic properties of these films were analyzed by a VSM and torque magnetometer. The Co-Pt alloy thin films were exhibited very high out-of-plane coercivity and squareness of the multilayer were 6527 Oe and 0.93, respectively, without heat treatment.
