A variety of surface pre-treatments have been advocated to prepare the dentin prior to placement of a bonding agent. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of various dentin conditioners upon the degree of resin impregnation to the dentinal tubules and the shear bond strength of a new dentinal bonding agent (Scotchbond 2) used in conjunction with a visible light cured composite (Silux). The healthy eighty human molars extracted due to periodontal or orthodontic reasons were used and randomly divided into five groups. All the grinded dentin surfaces were conditioned with 3% $H_2O_2$, Cavity Cleanser (Columbus/Bayer), Dentin Conditioner (GC Inter. Corp.), Scotchprep (3M Co.) according to the manufacturer's directions. The specimens were then demineralized in 10% HCl for 20 sec. and 24 hrs. in order to observe the resin tags in Hitachi X-450 scanning electron microscope at 25KV. Also, shear strengths were obtained using an Instron Testing Machine with a cross head speed of 1 mm/min. The following results were obtained ; 1. In group treating with Dentin Conditioner and Scotchprep, the resin strings were formed on most of the surfaces and penetrated more than $50{\mu}m$ into the tubules. 2. The inner surface of resin treated with Cavity Cleanser, indicating the resin strings formed partly and penetrated about in depth of $30{\mu}m$. 3. In control and experimental group treated with 3% $H_2O_2$, the resin tags were not formed, if any, penetrated shortly. 4. Shear bond strengths in groups treating with Dentin Conditioner and Scotchprep were statistically significant increase than with 3% $H_2O_2$. (P<0.01). 5. The Scotchprep treatment group was significantly higher in shear strength than groups treated with no conditioning and Cavity Cleanser.(P<0.01) 6. Shear bond strengths evaluated were gradually increase in proportion to the tag length of resin impregnation.
[ $CO_3O_4/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ ] catalysts were reported high activity on the low temperature CO oxidation. The effects of the calcination temperature, the loaded amount of cobalt and the oxygen concentration on the characteristics of CO oxidation have been investigated for a emergency escape mask cartridge. $Co(NO_3)_2\cdot6H_2O$ was used as cobalt precursor and the catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation. TGA shows that enough calcination is accomplished at $450^{\circ}C$ and cobalt phase is $Co_3O_4$ after calcination in the temperature range of $300\ ~500^{\circ}C$. The specific surface area and pore volume of catalysts are decreased with increasing of loaded amount of cobalt. And with the increase of loaded amount of cobalt and the oxygen concentration, the catalytic activity is increased.

The catalytic performances for CO preferential oxidation in hydrogen-rich fuels were investigated by varying the types of alumina supports, additives excluding platinum, and synthetic methods of impregnation and sol-gel synthesis. The reactions were conducted in the range of $25{\sim}300^{\circ}C$ over Pt, Co, and/or Na impregnated catalysts supported on commercial gamma-alumina, pseudoboehmite, or sol-gel derived xerogels. Catalytic activities were enhanced by cobalt addition due to strong Pt-Co interactions in the bimetallic phase. Additional sodium promoted not only the formation of the Pt-Co bimetallic interphase but also oxygen adsorption capability, giving rise to increase in the CO oxidation rate at lower temperatures. Moreover, chemical interaction between Pt and Co was considerably enhanced by sol-gel synthesis.

Cobalt catalysts for gas mask loaded on various supports such as $Al_{2}O_{3},\;TiO_{2}$, AC(activated carbon) and $SiO_{2}$ were used to examine influences of calcination temperatures and reaction temperatures for CO oxidation. $Co(NO_{3})_2{\cdot}6H_{2}O$ was used as cobalt precursor and the catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation. The catalysts were characterized using XRD, TGA/DTA, TEM, $N_{2}$ sorption, and XPS. For the catalytic activity, support was in the order of ${\gamma}-Al_{2}O_{3}>TiO_{2}>SiO_{2}>AC\;and\;Al_{2}O_{3}$. The catalytic activity at lower temperature than $80^{\circ}C$ showed that with the increase of reaction temperature, cobalt catalysts on ${\gamma}-Al_{2}O_{3},\;TiO_{2},\;AC\$ has the negative activation energy but that of $SiO_{2}$ was positive.
Microstructured Al@Al2O3 and Al@Ni-Al LDH (LDH = layered double hydroxide) core-shell metal-ceramic composites are prepared by hydrothermal reactions of aluminum (Al) metal substrates. Controlled hydrothermal reactions of Al metal substrates induce the hydrothermal dissolution of Al ions at the Al-substrate/solution interface and reconstruction as porous metal-hydroxides on the Al substrate, thereby constructing unique metal-ceramic core-shell composite structures. The morphology, composition, and crystal structure of the core-shell composites are affected largely by the ions in the hydrothermal solution; therefore, the critical physicochemical and surface properties of these unique metal-ceramic core-shell microstructures can be modulated effectively by varying the solution composition. A Ni/Al@Al2O3 catalyst with highly dispersed catalytic Ni nanoparticles on an Al@Al2O3 core-shell substrate was prepared by a controlled reduction of an Al@Ni-Al LDH core-shell prepared by hydrothermal reactions of Al in nickel nitrate solution. The reduction of Al@Ni-Al LDH leads to the exolution of Ni ions from the LDH shell, thereby constructing the Ni nanoparticles dispersed on the Al@Al2O3. The catalytic properties of the Ni/Al@Al2O3 catalyst were investigated for CO2 methanation reactions. The Ni/Al@Al2O3 catalyst exhibited 2 times greater CO2 conversion than a Ni/Al2O3 catalyst prepared by conventional incipient wetness impregnation and showed high structural stability. These results demonstrate the high effectiveness of the design and synthesis methods for the metal-ceramic composite catalysts derived by hydrothermal reactions of Al metal substrates.
The permeation of gas through polymer membrane at temperatures above its glass transition, generally occurs by a solution-diffusion mechanism. This mechanism is performed by the affinity difference between polymeric materials and gas molecules, and various technologies, such as copolymerization, impregnation and so on, have been researched to improve the affinity of polymeric material for the gases. In this study, permeability and selectivity for some gases were obtained from steady-state rates of gas permeation through silicone rubber membrane which is prepared by supercritical fluid extraction method. The permeability was measured by the volumetric method proposed by Barrer. Permeability was increased generally with temperature and permeation pressure. Silicone rubber membrane shows a higher permeability to $CO_2$ than to $O_2$, $N_2$. This results probably reflect the relatively high solubility of CO_2 in silicone rubber membrane, which is due to the affinity of $CO_2$ molecules. Since separation powers of $CO_2/N_2$, $CO_2/O_2$ were more than 200, and 100, respectively, it is able to separate $CO_2$ from the air, and the optimum temperature and pres-sure was 328.15 K, 60 cmHg respectively. In future, it is possible that the silicone rubber membrane can be used for separation or concentration of $CO_2$ through experiment for mixed gas separation.
In order to investigate tribological effects of nano copper particles impregnated(CuN) on surface polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) on sealing wear and an experimental study was carried out to determine the wear behavior of copper nano-particles impregnation two kind thickness in super critical $CO_2$ liquid. Experimental results showed that the friction coefficients of CuN PTFE at the low sliding speed(0.44m/s) and the oil temperature ($60^{\circ}C$) were higher than that of virgin PTFE. And a thin nano copper particles impreganated thickness was formed on the surface in the PTFE and the specimen with this treatment has much better friction properties than the original one. Fortunately, at the high load(80 N) and the oil temperature, the friction coefficient of CuN PTFE was lower than that of virgin PTFE. This evidenced the load carrying capacity of CuN PTFE was much better than that of virgin PTFE under the high load condition(80 N) specially. Therefore, it can be concluded that the friction coefficient variation of CuN PTFE is very small but its wear rate decreases greatly with increase in sliding speed.
This pilot study evaluated fueling feasibility of sewage sludge, which contains a large amount of water content, by applying melting of thermoplastic polyethylene (PE). This study has identified a simultaneous achievement of drying and heating value improvement of the sewage sludge. The sewage sludge collected from a sewage sludge treatment plant during a winter period had a water content of 83.7 wt%, a combustible volatile content of 12.5 wt%, and an ash content of 3.8 wt%. The higher heating value (HHV) of the dried sewage sludge, before impregnation or coating of PE, was 4,600 kcal/kg. The collected sewage sludge was immersed into the melted PE solution, which had a HHV of 11,070 kcal/kg, and kept immersing with increasing reaction time. As the reaction (immersing or coating or impregnation) time increased, the water content of the sludge decreased. However, the HHV of the sludge increased with increasing the reaction time. The HHVs of the sewage sludge immersed or dipped into the melted PE solution for 15 min ranged from 6,780 to 8,170 kcal/kg with water content less than 7 wt%. This result indicates the melted PE solution can be utilized as an improvement technology for dryness and heating value of the sewage sludge with high water content. The sewage sludge impregnated or coated with melted PE can be utilized as potential fuel or energy resources.
Adsorption experiment of carbon dioxide was performed on MCM41 silica impregnated with two kinds of EDA(ethylenediamine) and MEA(monoethanolamine). The prepared adsorbents were characterized by BET surface area, X-ray diffraction and FT-IR. The $CO_2$ capture study was investigated in a U type packed column with GC/TCD. The results of XRD for MCM-41 and amine-impregnated MCM41 showed typical the hexagonal pore system. BET results showed the MCM 41 impregnated amine to have a surface area of 141 $m^2/g$ to 595 $m^2/g$ and FT-IR revealed a N-H functional group at about 1400$cm^{-1}$ to 1600$cm^{-1}$. The $CO_2$ adsorption capacity on EDA and MEA was as follow: MCM41-EDA30 > MCM41 -EDA40 >MCM41-EDA20 >MCM-EDA10 and MCM41-MEA40 >MCM41-MEA30 > MCM41-MEA20> MCM41-MEA10. The MCM41-EDA30 showed the highest adsorption capacity due to physical adsorption and chemical adsorption by amino-group content. The results suggest that mesoporous media with EDA is effective adsorbent for $CO_2$ capture from flue gases.
Catalytic combustion of benzene over $CeO_2$-supported copper oxides has been investigated. The supported copper oxides catalysts were prepared using ball mill method and characterized by XRD, FT-IR, TEM and TPR. In the CuO/$CeO_2$ catalysts prepared using ball mill method, highly dispersed copper oxide species were shown at high loading ratio. The CuO/$CeO_2$ prepared using ball mill method showed the higher activity than those prepared using impregnation method. The catalytic activity increased with an increase in the CuO loading ratio, 10 wt% loaded CuO/$CeO_2$ catalyst giving the highest activity. In addition, the promoting of 10 wt% loaded CuO/$CeO_2$ catalyst with $Fe_2O_3$ and CoO enhanced the dispersion of CuO and then increased the catalytic activity.
