Angular dependence of critical current of SmBCO coated conductor fabricated by co-evaporation method

  • Angular dependence of critical current density of SmBCO coated conductor fabricated by co-evaporation method was investigated. For comparison, three samples were fabricated by a co-evaporation method and one sample was fabricated by a pulsed laser deposition process. The deposition system, named EDDC (Evaporation using Drum in Dual Chambers), is a batch type co-evaporation system, which is composed of reaction chamber and evaporation chamber. The normalized critical current density ratio ($I_c/I_c$(H//ab-plane)) of EDDC-SmBCO samples was found to be higher than that of PLD-YBCO sample in the whole range of angle. While the EDDC-SmBCO samples evidently had a peak at the angle of H//c-axis in the plot of the angular dependence of critical current, the normalized critical current of PLD-YBCO sample decreased monotonically without any peak as angle increased. The field dependence of critical current under the magnetic field parallel to the normal direction of those samples showed similar aspect in the range of $0\;G{\sim}5000\;G$.

Evaporation Heat Transfer Characteristics of CO2 R-22 and R-134a in a Horizontal Smooth Tube (수평원관 내 CO2 R-22 및 R-134a의 증발열전달 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Evaporation heat transfer coefficients of carbon dioxide($CO_2$), R-22, and R-134a in a horizontal smooth tube were measured and analyzed as a function of heat flux, mass flux, and evaporating temperature. The experiments were carried out by varying heat flux from 10 to 20 $kW/m^2$, mass flux from 170 to 340 $kg/m^2s$, and saturation temperatures of 5 and $10^{\circ}C$. It was found that the heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ decreased with a rise of quality due to an earlier liquid-film dryout as compared to R-22 and R-134a. Averaged heat transfer coefficients of $CO_2$ were 22-63% higher than those of R-22 and R-134a at all test conditions. The effects of mass flux and heat flux on averaged heat transfer coefficients were much greater in $CO_2$ than in R-22 and R-134a. When comparing $CO_2$ test results with the correlations in the literature, the existing models yielded large deviations at medium and high qualities. Therefore, a generalized correlation for $CO_2$evaporation heat transfer needs to be developed by including the effects of dryout phenomenon.

  • Experimental study on the heat transfer characteristics of $CO_2$ in a horizontal smooth tube was carried out to investigate the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop during evaporation of $CO_2$. The experiment apparatus consisted of a test section, a DC power supply, a heater, a chiller, a mass flow meter, a pump and a measurement system. Experiment was conducted for various mass fluxes ($200{\sim}1200kg/m^2s$), heat flukes ($10{\sim}100kW/m^2$) and saturation temperatures (-5, 0, $5^{\circ}C$). With increasing the heat flux, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient increased. But the variation of the heat transfer coefficient on the increase of the mass flux was not large. And the significantly drops of the heat transfer coefficient was observed at any heat flux and mass flux because of the change of the flow pattern in the tube. With increasing the saturation temperature, the heat transfer coefficient increased due to the promotion of a nucleate boiling. The measured pressure drop during evaporation increased with increasing the mass flux and decreasing the saturation temperature.

  • Evaporation heat transfer characteristics of $CO_2$/propane mixtures in horizontal smooth and micro-fin tubes have been investigated by experiment. The experiments were carried out for several test conditions of mass fluxes, heat fluxes, compositions of $CO_2$/propane refrigerant mixtures and tube geometries. Direct heating method was used for supplying heat to the refrigerant where the test tube was uniformly heated by electric current which was applied to the tube wall. Heat transfer coefficient data during evaporation process of $CO_2$/propane mixtures were measured for 5 m long smooth and micro-fin tubes with outer diameters of 5 mm, respectively. The tests were conducted at mass fluxes of 318 to 997 $kg/m^2s$, heat fluxes of 6 to 20 $kW/m^2$ and for several mixture compositions (100/0, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75, 100/0 by wt% of $CO_2$/propane). The differences of heat transfer characteristics between smooth and micro-fin tubes for various compositions of $CO_2$/propane refrigerant mixtures and the effect of mass flux, and heat flux on enhancement factor (EF) and penalty factor (PF) were presented.

  • Effects of Ga contents of CIGS absorber layer on the performance of thin films solar cells were investigated. As Ga content increased, the grain size of CIGS films decreased presumably because Ga diffusion during 2nd stage of co-evaporation process is more difficult than In diffusion. Performances of corresponding solar cell show systematic dependence on Ga content in which open circuit voltage increases and short circuit current and fill factor decrease as Ga contents increases. At a optimal condition of Ga/(In+Ga)=0.27, the solar cell shows a conversion efficiency of 15.6% with $V_{OC}$ of 0.625 V, $J_{SC}$ of 35.03 mA/$cm^2$ and FF of 71.3%.

  • A profitable mass production of Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) displays needs a new type of manufacturing equipment. We have developed a vertical In-Line machine (VES400) equipped with linear etch sources (e.g. to activate an ITO layer), standard magnetron sputter sources for ITO and metal and linear evaporation sources for the organic and metal materials. We present new results concerning the linear evaporation sources for organic materials. We have optimized the vertical thickness non uniformity for the evaporation of different organic materials and achieved deviations of less than ${\pm}$ 5 % for the vertical thickness over a substrate height of 400 mm. We will further report first results about the long term stability of the deposition rate for different organic materials using rate control..

  • In order to investigate the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop during evaporation of $CO_2$, basic experiment on the evaporation heat transfer characteristics in a horizontal smooth tube was performed. The experimental apparatus consisted of a test section, a DC power supply, a heater, a chiller, a mass flow meter, a pump and a measurement system. Experiment was conducted for various mass fluxes ($200{\sim}1200\;kg/m^2s$), heat fluxes ($10{\sim}80\;kW/m^2$) and saturation temperatures ($-5{\sim}5^{\circ}C$). With the increase of quality, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient decreased. With the increase of heat flux, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient increased. Significantly change of the heat transfer coefficient was observed at any heat flux and mass flux. With the increase of saturation temperature, the heat transfer coefficient increased. Pressure drop increased with the increase of mass flux and the decrease of saturation temperature.

  • In order to investigate $CO_2$ heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop by PAG oil concentration during $CO_2$ evaporation, the experiment on evaporation heat transfer characteristics in a mini-channels were performed. The experimental apparatus consisted of a test section, a DC power supply, a heater, a chiller, a mass flow meter, a pump and a measurement system. Experiment was conducted for various mass fluxes($300{\sim}800kg/m^{2}s$), heat fluxes($10{\sim}40kW/m^2$) saturation temperatures($-5{\sim}5^{\circ}C$), and PAG oil concentration(0, 3, 5wt%). The variation of the heat transfer coefficient was different according to the oil concentration. With the increase of the oil concentration, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient decreased and the delay of dryout by oil addition was found. Pressure drop increased with the increase of the oil concentration and heat flux, and the decrease of saturation temperature.
