Comparative Molecular Field Analyses (CoMFA) on the Mela-nogenesis Inhibitory Activities of Alkyl-3,4-dihydroxybenzoyl Derivatives.

  • To search and development a new material with superior melanogenesis inhibitory activity, the bioactivities (obs. pl$_{50}$) of alkyl-3,4-dihydroxybenzoyl esters and N-alkyl-3,4-dihydroxybenz-oyl amides as substrate molecules were measured in mouse melanoma cells. And also, we have studied that 3-D QSARs (3 dimensional Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships) between molecular interaction field of substrates and the bioactivities were analyzed using CoMFA (Comparative Molecular Field Analyses) method. When cross-validation value (q$^2$) is 0.68 at 3 components, the Pearson correlation coefficient ($r^2$) is 0.900. From the basis on the findings, the model was appeared by the contour map such as steric field and electrostatic field relationships between quantitative structure and the bioactivity of the various substrate derivatives. Measured bioactivities (obs. pl$_{50}$) of unknown compounds are very similar to predicted activity (pred. pl$_{50}$) according to the CoMFA model. As the results of prediction, we could conclude that the bioactivities were increased by creation of R$_1$ substitution of 5,5-dime-thylhexoxy, 6,6-dimethylheptyl, 1-amino-6,6-dimethylheptyl group etc and R$_2$ substitution of hydroxy, methyl, methoxy group etc.p etc.

Electrochemical Performances of the Fluorine-Substituted on the 0.3Li2MnO3·0.7LiMn0.60Ni0.25Co0.15O2 Cathode Material

  • The fluorine-substituted $0.3Li_2MnO_3{\cdot}0.7Li[Mn_{0.60}Ni_{0.25}Co_{0.15}]O_{2-x}F_x$ cathode materials were synthesized by using the transition metal precursor, $LiOH{\cdot}H_2O$ and LiF. This was to facilitate the movement of lithium ions by forming more compact SEI layer and to reduce the dissolution of transition metals. The $0.3Li_2MnO_3{\cdot}0.7Li[Mn_{0.60}Ni_{0.25}Co_{0.15}]O_{2-x}F_x$ cathode material was sphere-shaped and each secondary particle had $10{\sim}15{\mu}m$ in size. The fluorine-substituted cathodes initially delivered low discharge capacity, but it gradually increased until 50th charge-discharge cycles. These results indicated that fluorine substitution gave positive effects on the structural stabilization and resistance reduction in materials.

Synthesis and Mechanism of Ni-Doped Hibonite Blue Pigments (Ni-Doped Hibonite 파란색 안료의 합성과 발색기구)

  • NiO-doped hibonite pigments were synthesized by the solid state method to get stabilized blue color pigment in both oxidation and reduction atmospheres. Optimum substitution condition with NiO for hibonite blue pigment was investigated. Experimental results were comparable to those of previous cobalt-minimization studies performed with other phosphate- or oxide-based cobalt-containing ceramic pigments (having olivine ($Co_2SiO_4$), spinel ($CoAl_2O_4$), or with co-doped willemite ($(Co,Zn)_2SiO_4$) structures). Composition was designed varying the NiO molar ratio increasing with $SnO_2$. The optimum substitution content is 0.93 mole NiO with 0.75mole $SnO_2$. The characteristics of the synthesized pigment were analyzed by XRD, Raman spectroscopy, SEM, and UV-vis. Synthesized pigment was applied to a lime-barium glaze with 10 wt% each and fired at an oxidation atmosphere of $1250^{\circ}C/1h$ and a reducing atmosphere $1240^{\circ}C/1h$. Blue color was obtained with $L^*a^*b^*$ values at 43.39, -6.78, -18.20 under a reducing atmosphere and 41.66, -6.36, -14.7 under and oxidation atmosphere, respectively.

  • NiSi is currently being employed in 45 nm CMOS devices as a contact material. We employed a first principles calculation to understand the movements of atoms when Co, Pd, and Pt were added to tetragonal-NiSi on Si (001). The Ni atoms in the tetragonal-NiSi/Si (001) favored away from the original positions along positive c-direction in a systematic way during the energy minimization. Two different Ni sites were identified at the interface and the bulk, respectively. The Ni site at the interface farther away from the interface was more favorable for Pd and Pt substitution. Co, however, prafered the bulk site to the interface site, unlike Pd and Pt.

Control of $NaAlSiO_4:Eu^{2+}$ photoluminescence properties by charge-compensated aliovalent element substitutions

  • We have conducted two kinds of the so-called charge-compensated aliovalent element substitutions to control the photoluminescence properties of $NaAlSiO_4:Eu^{2+}$ with a special focus on the enhancement of the excitation intensity at 400 nm. The aliovalent element substitutions include cation-cation and cation-anion co-substitutions according to the general formulas $Na_{1-x}M_xAl_{1+x}Si_{1-x}O_4:Eu^{2+}$ and $Na_{1-x}M_xAlSiO_{4-x}N_x:Eu^{2+}$ (M = $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, and $Sr^{2+}$), respectively. The increase in the relative excitation intensity at 400 nm has been achieved in both types of the co-substitutions. Thus, the present research has demonstrated the effectiveness of the charge-compensated element substitution.

  • To determine whether there is an ionic substitution of Ni, Co, Mn, and Al for Fe in synthetic goethites these materials have been studied by M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy at various temperatures ranging from 77 to 400 K. It is found that the presence of substituting elements in magnetically ordered structure of crystals may change the shape of M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra of these caterials. The approximate distribution function of the effective magnetic field in the Fe nucleus p(Hn) is obtained from the M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra. It is noted that the mean value of p(Hn) and its integral width can be taken as a measure of substitution in goethites.

  • In this study, in order to develop low temperature sintering ceramics for multilayer piezoelectric actuator, 0.07Pb$(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_{3}-xPb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_{3}-(0.93-x)Pb(Zr,Ti)O_{3}$ ceramics system were fabricated using $Li_{2}CO_{3}-Bi_{2}O_{3}$-CuO sintering aids and the specimens were sintered at $930^{\circ}C$. Thereafter their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated with the amount of PNN substitution. At 9[mol%] PNN substitution, electromechanical coupling factor (kp), mechanical quality factor (Qm) and piezoelectric constant ($d_{33}$) showed the optimum value of 0.60, 1323 and 387pC/N, respectively.

A Fundamental Study for Development of Corrosion Inhibitor Repair Mortar (저탄소 방청 보수모르타르 개발을 위한 기초연구)

  • The present study prepared 13 mixes to examine fundamental mixture proportions of corrosion inhibitor repair mortars. The mortar mixes were classified into three groups according to the selected test variables which are the substitution level of polymer for Group 1, ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) and fly ash (FA) for Group 2, and corrosion inhibitor for Group 3. Based on the test results, the optimum substitution levels of GGBS and FA could be recommended as 10% and 20%, respectively, though 1-day strength of mortar significantly decreased with their substitution. Furthermore, the appropriate substitution level of corrosion inhibitor was considered to be less than 1.5%. The flexural strength of mortar tested was higher than the predictions obtained from ACI 318-11 equation. The shrinkage strain of mortar was also conservative after an age of around 10 days compared with the predictions of ACI 209.

  • In this study, in order to develop low temperature sintering piezoelectric ceramics for LTCC (Low-Temperature Cofired Ceramic) multilayer piezoelectric actuator, PMW-PMN-PZT ceramics using $0.2wt%\; Li_2CO_3$ and $0.25wt%\;CaCO_3$ as sintering aids were investigated according to the varation of PMW substution. Composition ceramics could be sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ by adding sintering aids. As the amount of PMW substitution increased, the crystal structure of PMW-PMN-PZT ceramics moved from tetragonal phase to rhombohedral phase gradually, and MPB(Morphotrophic Phase Boundary) region appeared at 2 mol% PMW substitution. At the sintering temperature of $900^{\circ}C$, the density, electromechanical coupling factor(kp), mechanical quality factor(Qm), dielectric constant(${\epsilon}r$), piezoelectric constant(d33) and Curie temperature(Tc) of 2 mol% PMW substituted PMW-PMN-PZT ceramics showed the optimal values of $7.88g/cm^3$, 0.58, 1002, 1264, 352 pC/N and $336^{\circ}C$, respectively, for LTCC multilayer piezoelectric actuator application.

  • This study is a case study about the Valero Energy Corporation, the largest American independent refinery company, examining the characteristics of human resource management as a union avoidance strategy. The main research questions here are whether union substitution strategy differs clearly from union suppression strategy in the context of Valero Energy. Since the establishment in 1980, the Valero had maintained non-union tradition. The typical examples of human resource management in the non-unionized American companies are easily found in the Valero, such as strong CEO leadership, manpower policy emphasizing corporate culture and teamwork, direct communication between company and individual employees, no lay-off policy and no outsourcing policy of HRM, salary level around average of industry and best level of fringe benefits in the industry, non-union tradition and well-functioned alternative dispute resolution system and so on. Until now, based on tremendous growth and profitability, the company have applied union substitution method adopted by good companies as concrete method of union avoidance strategy instead of union suppression method that marginal enterprise prefers.
