Formation of amorphous and crystalline phase, phase sequence by solid state reaction in Co/Si multilayer thin films (Co/Si 다층박막에서의 고상반응에 의한 비정질상과 결정상의 생성 및 상전이)

  • The growth of amorphous and first crystalline phase, and phase sequence by solid state reaction were examined in Co/Si multilayer thin films by DSC and XRD. The experimental results were compared with the results expected by effective driving force models, PDF and effective heat of formation models.Amorphous phase growth was not observed in Co/Si system and it was consistent with the predicted result by effective driving force. It was observed that the first crystalline phase is CoSi. According to the PDF and effective heat of formation models, the first crystalline phases were CoSi and $CO_2Si$, respectively. The experiemental results were coincident with the PDF model considering structure factors. In case of the atomic concentration ratios of 2Co : 1Si and 1Co : 2Si, the phases sequences were $CoSi\to Co_2Si$ and $CoSi \to Co_2Si \to CoSi \to CoSi_2$, respectively and it was analysized through the effective heat of formation model. The formations of CoSi, $CO_2Si$ and $COSi_2$ in initial stage were controlled by nucleation and the activation energies for the nucleation of three phases were 1.71, 2.34 and 2.79eV.

  • The Present study attempted to analyze the fate of CO diffused into the circulating blood through the alveoli. Dogs were induced to CO poisoning by rebreathing CO gas mixture contained in Krog's spirometer, by closed circuit method, for 60 minutes. The spirometer was filled initially with 282 ml of CO and 20 liters of air and oxygen, so the composition of gases were arranged as 1.4% in CO and 50% in $O_2$ at the begining of the rebreathing. Oxygen was added corresponding to the utilization of $O_2$ by the animal in proceeding of the experiment. At 60th minutes of CO rebreathing, the concentration of CO in arterial blood and in mixed venous blood were analysed and compared with each other after the CO contents were corrected with the hematocrit measured in the arterial and mixed venous blood. The distribution of CO gas to other tissues was estimated by the analysis of CO diffused into the cystic bile and into the peritoneal gas pocket which was formed by injection of 300 ml air into the peritoneal cavity prior to the CO gas rebreathing. The blood volume was measured by dilution method using $^{51}Chromium$ tagged red cells. CO amount vanished in the animal body was calculated by subtraction of total CO content in blood stream and the CO remained in closed circuit breathing system from the CO amount given to the breathing system at the begining of the experiment. Results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The content of CO corrected by the hematocrit value was slightly less in mixed venous blood than in arterial blood. The amount of CO diffused into the cystic bile and into the peritoneal cavity was averaged to 0.1% and 0.4% of the CO amount in 100 ml of blood, respectively. 2. For 60 minutes of CO rebreathing, CO-hemoglobin saturation reached about 77% at the 60th minutes, CO amount vanished in the experimental animal averaged 36.1 ml/dog/hr., or 21% of the total CO volume in the blood stream. The average vanishing rate of CO during 60 minutes of CO rebreathing per kg of body weight was 2.71 ml/hr. Production of CO measured in ten dogs under hypoxic condition averaged 0.023 ml/kg/hr. The major part of the CO vanished in the dogs seemed to be oxidized to $CO_2$ by various tissues of the animal. The conclusion might be delivered as such oxidation of CO to $CO_2$ by animal tissues can play a role in part of the process of recovery and protection of animal from CO-poisoning.

  • A drawback in the CO2 capture process using an aqueous amine solution is the high energy requirement for the regeneration process. In order to overcome this disadvantage, this study investigated CO2 capture characteristics using a biphasic absorbent in which isopropanol (IPA) was introduced into an aqueous solution of diethylenetriamine (DETA). When the IPA composition exceeded 20 wt% in 20 wt% DETA aqueous solution, the absorbent phase was liquid-liquid separated into a CO2-rich phase and a CO2-lean phase because of the low solubility of the salt formed by the reaction of CO2 with DETA in isopropanol. When the isopropanol composition in the DETA aqueous solution increased, the phase volume ratio of the CO2-rich phase to the volume of the CO2-lean phase increased; and, accordingly, the CO2 in the CO2-rich phase was more concentrated. The results of absorbing CO2 in a packed tower using 20 wt% DETA + IPA + water absorbent confirmed that both the CO2 absorption capacity and the absorption rate were higher than that of the 20 wt% DETA aqueous solution. When a biphasic absorbent composed of DETA + IPA + water is applied to CO2 capture, it can be expected to concentrate CO2 because of phase separation and thereby reduce regeneration energy owing to volume reduction of the CO2-rich phase.

Ferromagnetic Resonance Studies of Ultrathin Co Layers in Co/Ag Multilayers

  • A relationship between microstructure and ferromagnetic resonance of Co/Ag multilayers has been studied in as-deposited and annealed multilayers iwth ultrathin (dCo < 1 nm) Co layers. Depending on the nominal thickness of Co Co/Ag multilayers represent a system of fine magnetic particles (dCo < 0.4 nm) or discontionuous layered structure (dCo/0.5 nm). FMR data has been interpreted in the framework of a odel of interacting fine particles exhibiting superparamagnetic behavior. Changes in the FMR spectra upon annealing have been attributed to the growth of the Co particles and to a transition from the fcc to hcp atomic structure of the highly (111) textured Co particles.

Magnetic Properties of Co-Cr(-Ta)/Si Bilayered Thin Film (Co-Cr(-Ta)/Si 이층막의 자기적 특성)

  • In odder to investigate the magnetic properties of CoCr-based bilayered thin films on kind of underlayer, we introduced amorphous Si layer to Co-Cr(-Ta) magnetic layer as underlayer. First, we prepared CoCr and CoCrTa single layer using the Facing Targets Sputtering system to investigate theirs properties. It was revealed that with increasing the film thickness of CoCr, CoCrTa single layer, crystalline orientation and perpendicular coercivity was improved. The CoCrTa thin film showed bettor crystalline and magnetic characteristics than CoCr thin film. As a result of investigating magnetic properties of CoCr and CoCrTa magnetic layer on introducing the Si underlayer, perpendicular coercivity and saturation magnetization of CoCr/Si and CoCrTa/Si bilayered thin film were decreased due to the increased grain size and diffusion of Si atoms to magnetic layer. And they showed constant with increasing the film thickness of Si thin film. However, in case of CoCrTa/Si bilayered thin film, in-plane coercivity was controlled low at about 250Oe. The c-axis orientations of CoCr/si and CoCrTa/Si bilayered thin film showed a good crystalline characteristics as about $2^{\circ}$.

Silicidation of Co/M/(100) Si bilayer Structures (Co/내열금속/(100) Si 이중층 구조의 실리사이드화)

  • The silicide formation mechanisms of Co/Hf and Co/Nb bilayer on (100) Si have been investigated. We ob-served that crystallographic orientationso f the 500$^{\circ}C$ formed cobalt silcides were different each other with the varying intermediate layers. Epitaxial and non-epitaxial CoSi2 formed simultaneously in Co/Hf/(100Si. While only non-epitaxial CoSi2 formed in Co/Nb/(100) Si. The reason why the crystallographic orientation of CpSi2 is different for those two systems seemed to be relate to the formation and decomposition of stable reaction barriers at high temperature. The stable reaction barrier formed at high temperature could control the uniform diffusion of Co atoms which enables epitaxial growth of CoSi2.

Thermophysical Properties of CO2 and CO2-Hydrate Mixture and In-Tube Heat Transfer Characteristics (CO2-Hydrate와 CO2 가스 혼합물의 전달물성과 관내측 열전달계수 및 압력강하 예측)

  • The Thermophysical properties of thermal conductivity, viscosity, and heat capacity for $CO_2$ slurry ($CO_2$ gas and $CO_2$-hydrate mixture) having a high gas phase volume fraction were predicted using the conventional mixture models and the TRAPP model under hydrate formation conditions. Based on the calculated thermophysical properties, the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop of the $CO_2$ slurry in the tube were predicted. The thermal conductivity of $CO_2$ slurry ranged from 0.02 to 0.2 W/m-K, and the mixture viscosity was larger than that of pure $CO_2$ by 1.9~2.7 times. The heat capacity of $CO_2$ slurry ranged from 63 to 68% of that for pure $CO_2$. The predicted heat transfer coefficient of $CO_2$ slurry was 6 times higher than that of pure $CO_2$. In the separate model, the estimated pressure drop increased with an increase of $CO_2$-hydrate mole fraction, and was 60% of that of pure $CO_2$.

Study of Coercivity Origin in Mechanically Alloyed Co-Zr System

  • [ $Co_{100-X}Zr_X$ ] (x=10-40) alloys were prepared by using a mechanical alloying technique. Phase constitution of the crystallised material depended on the annealing temperature. The $Co_{82}Zr_{18}$ alloy crystallised at lower temperature around $550^{\circ}C$ consisted of $Co_{23}Zr_6$, $Co_5Zr$ and fcc-Co phases, while the alloy crystallised at higher temperature around $800^{\circ}C$ consisted of $Co_{23}Zr_6$ and fcc-Co phases. Phase constitution of the crystallised material also depended on the chemical composition of the alloy. The material with lower Zr content less than 10 at% Zr consisted of $Co_{23}Zr_6$ and fcc-Co, and the material with higher Zr-content over 30 at% consisted of $Co_2Zr$ phase. The material containing 15-20 at% Zr consisted of $Co_{23}Zr_6$, $Co_5Zr$ and fcc-Co. Only the material containing $Co_5Zr$ phase exhibited substantial coercivity, and it was confirmed that coercivity in the mechanically alloyed Co-Zr alloy was originated from the $Co_5Zr$ phase.

Comparison of Construction Costs of Masonry Wall Types, including CO2 Emission Costs (조적벽의 CO2 배출비용을 포함한 건설원가 비교에 관한 연구)

  • The carbon dioxide($CO_2$) emissions that result from construction are one of the main factors causing a global warming problem. It is therefore necessary to make efforts to reduce $CO_2$ emissions in the construction industry. Some researchers have studied $CO_2$ emissions in the industry ; however, there has been a lack of study on $CO_2$ emissions cost. Therefore, in this study, the construction costs, including the $CO_2$ emission cost, of masonry wall type, which is a common brick wall, concrete brick wall, and fired brick wall, were examined. The purpose of this study is to compare the construction costs of masonry wall types, including $CO_2$ emission costs. The study found that the $CO_2$ emission costs were highest for the fired brick wall, followed by the concrete brick wall. This research could provide basic information that can be used in other engineering methods to convert $CO_2$ emissions to $CO_2$ emission cost.

Formation of Co-silicides using Co Single Layer and Co/Ti Bilayer (Co 단일막과 Co/Ti 이중막을 이용한 Co-실리사이드의 형성 연구)

  • nptype Si(100)웨이퍼를 precleaning하고 HF 용액에 dip etching한 후 E-beam dvaporator에 장착하여 Co 단일막($170\AA$, $340\AA$)과 Co/Ti 이중막($200\AA$/ $(50-100)\AA$)을 성장시켰다. 시편의 RTA 과정에서는 N2분위기에서 direct annealing 방식으로 열처리 온도와 시간을 변화시켜가며 Co-silicidation 공정을 수행하였다. Co 단일막으로 형성된 Co-실리사이드의 면저항은 $500^{\circ}C\leq$T$\leq$$850^{\circ}C$범위에서 열처리 온도와 시간의 변화에 관계없이 거의 일정한 값을 나타내었다. Co/Ti 이중막의 경우 Co-실리사이드의 형성온도가 Co 단일막의 경우에 비해 높게 나타나고 낮은 비저항의 CoSi2를 얻기 위해서는 $800^{\circ}C$이상의 온도로 열처리해야 함을 알 수 있었다. XRD 분석결과, Co 단일막으로부터 얻어진 CoSi2는 (111) 및 (220) 결정상을 나타내었으나, Co/Ti 이중막에 의한 CoSi2는 (200)결정상만이 나타나서 Si(100)기판과 에피층을 이루고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 본 실험에서 CoSi2의 비저항은 약 $18\mu$$\Omega$.cm로 나타났으며, TEM 및 AES 분석으로부터 Co/Ti bilayer-실리사이드가 다량의 Si과 Ti 외에 소량의 Co가 섞여있는 표면 복합층과, Si과 Co만이 존재하는 내부 에피층으로 구성됨을 확인하였다.
