Environmental Monitoring Using Comfort Sensing System

  • This research is about a comfort sensing system for human environmental monitoring using a one-bodied humidity and temperature sensor and an air flow sensor. The thermal comfort that a human being feels in indoor environment has been known to be influenced mostly by six parameters, i.e. air temperature, radiation, air flow, humidity, activity level and clothing thermal resistance. Considering an environmental monitoring, we have designed and fabricated a one-bodied humidity and temperature sensor and an air flow sensor that detect air relative humidity, temperature and air flow in human environment using surface micromachining technologies. Micro-controller calculates a PMV (predicted mean vote) and CSV (comfort sensing vote) with sensing signals and display a PMV on LCD (liquid crystal display) for human comfort on indoor climate. Our work has demonstrated that a comfort sensing system can provide an effective means of measuring and monitoring the indoor comfort sensing index of a human being. Experimental results with simulated environment clearly suggest that our comfort sensing system can be used in many applications such as air conditioning system, feedback controlling in automobile, home and hospital etc..

A Study on Natural Dye Having the Effects on the Atopic Dermatitis (Part I ) - Bamboo Extract - (아토피성 피부염병변에 치료효과가 있는 천연염료 연구(I) - 대나무 추출물 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of bamboo extract as natural dye having the effect on atopic dermatitis(AD). To investigate the effect of bamboo extract on AD in vivo, we applied bamboo extract to the AD-like skin lesion the backs of atopic of NC/Nga mice, an animal model of AD. NC/Nga mice were challenged with DNCB(2.4-Dinitrochlorbenzene) to develope AD-like skin lesions. The efficacy of bamboo extract in the NC/Nga mice was evaluated by measurement of the skin lesion severity(NC mouse score), the serum IgE level, epidermal thickness changes, and mast cell number. Bamboo extracts improved skin lesions in NC/Nga mice. The serum IgE levels were decreased after treatment with bamboo extract. Histological examinations revealed a decrease in epidermal thickness and mast cell number after treatment with bamboo extract. To conclude, the topical application of bamboo extract suppressed the progression of AD-like skin lesions.

A Study on Chinese Men's Awareness and Satisfaction on Korean Apparel Products (중국(中國) 남성(男性) 소비자(消費者)의 한국산(韓國産) 의류(衣類)패션 제품(製品)에 관(關)한 인지(認知)와 만족도(滿足度) 연구(硏究))

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate Chinese men's perception and satisfaction on Korean apparel products. The 1000 Questionnaires were distributed to Chinese men, and returned 863 questionnaires were analyzed by mean and percentage with SPSS 10.0. The results of this study were as follows: Chinese men had more perception on their own brand and Italy brand than UK, Korean, and Japan brand. Over age fifties of Chinese men preferred Korean brand to the other ages. Chinese men perceived positively Korean fashion products as more trendy, very creative, high-class, qualitative, expensive and creditable, otherwise, there were little famous brands among Koran apparel products. Chinese men satisfied on Korean apparel products positively, specially, age forties and fifties, resident from Harbin, income 2 and 3 level, and young casual mild group showed higher satisfaction on Korean apparel products than the others.

A Study on the Comparative Analysis of Slim Pants Patterns for Men in Their 20s

  • The purpose of this study was to select patterns for slim fit pants, for the following main research, to develop new pants patterns that are suitable and preferable for men in their 20s. We compared and analyzed the patterns of which are currently in the market. We compared 10 different slim pants pattern drafting and analyzed their differences. Then, we examined their appearances and functionalities thru a male model test fitting 10 different samples of the pants. The conclusions of the research results were as follows. We listed the patterns in the following order based on the numbers of items each pattern has, which are statistically considerable for the evaluation to the optimum satisfactory level among the total of 35 testing categories: J > B=I > F=H > A > C=G > D > E. In the functionality test of the pants, we found that it was too tight around the waist and abdomen area with Pattern D, where-as it was too loose around the waist with Pattern C:,-, yet, both of the patterns indicated that it is a good fit in over-all. Therefore, we chose Pattern E, D, C, and G as the existing pants patterns that could be used for further research and for educational purposes to develop a slim pants pattern for men in their 20s.

Gender Differences in Scent Sensibility Effect Model of Scented Textile Products (향기섬유제품의 향기감성 영향모형에 대한 성별비교 연구)

  • In this research, a theoretical model indicating the influence of fragrance sensibility response on attitude toward and buying intention of scented textile products was tested. On-line survey data was collected from a total of 530 consumers who have used or purchased scented textile products. In results, gender differences were found in the multigroup analysis using Structural Equation Modeling. In the model of females, pleasantness, stimulating, familiarity and congruency of scent affected attitude toward scented textile products while pleasantness was only a factor influencing attitude toward scented textile products in the model of males. In addition, pleasantness was the most important factor for Two genders although males indicated a higher level of buying intention toward scented textile products.

Color Preferences According to Personality Types in term of Color Attributes (성격특성에 따른 색채의 속성별 의복색 선호도-대구광역시 의류학전공 여대생을 중심으로-)

  • This Paper is intended to analyze color preferences for apparel, and color preferences according to personality types. The subjects are one hundred twenty five female university students majoring in clothing, textile & design. Color stimulus are divided according to season, value and chroma, and personality types are classified into four : introverted, achieving, age-gressive and conservative. Duncan test, factor analysis and descriptive statistics have been applied to data processing. The findings are as follows. In terms of hue preferences, winter colors are most preferred and autumn colors follow. In re-gard to value preferences, low value colors have been found to be preferred and in respect to chroma preferences, low chroma colors have been found to be preferred. Seasonal colors, value and chroma show significant differences at the level of P<.001. In terms of color preferences for apparel fabrics according to personality types, winter colors are most preferred regardless of person-ality types, and autum colors follow. The introverted and the conservative dislike summer colors least and the achieving and the aggress-ive, spring colors. In respect to value preferences, low value colors are preferred irrespective of personality types. The introverted and the achieving dislike high value colors least and the aggressive and the conservative, mid value colors. With regard to chroma preferences, all person-ality types have been found to prefer low chroma colors. They dislike mid chroma color, and high chroma colors are least preferred.

Fungi-rice bran based Fermentation of Coptis Chinensis and Curcuma Longa Root and its Influence of Silk Dyeing

  • This study examined the dye-properties of natural fabrics dyed with Coptis chinensis and Curcuma longa root fermented with fungi. The optimum culture conditions for the fermentation of microorganisms, the relationship between natural dye color and fermentation conditions were investigated. Two different medical herbs (ground to 80-100 mesh in size) were used as a natural dyeing source. Phellinus linteus (P. linteus), which can grow in different media, such as Agarmedium (only agar containing medium), maltose extract agar (MA) and potato dextrose extract agar (PDA) culture media, were isolated from the medium. P. linteus was confirmed to be the optimum microorganism for the fermentation of Coptis chinensis and Curcuma longa, and the MA medium was confirmed to be the best for culturing. When using the microorganism as the fermenting agent, $32^{\circ}C$ was found to be the optimum fermenting temperature for both natural colorants. Regarding the dyeing property of the fermented natural dye, silk was dyed quite darkly in an appearance by naked eye estimation and the K/S value in the color strength of silk reached a high level of 16 after the fermenting process. The washing fastness of dyed silk after treatment washing was reduced from 4 to under4 and indicates that dyed silk with fermented plant was not unsubstantial. The light fastness was 1 to 2, showing intended to maintain due to the fermentation process.

A Study on Perception and Satisfaction of High School Students for Saenghwal Hanbok School Uniforms (고등학생의 생활한복 교복에 대한 인식과 만족도)

  • This research is to investigate the perception and satisfaction of high school students for Saenghwal Hanbok school uniforms. With this study we will be able to provide useful information for clothing companies as well as schools which are planning to introduce Saenghwal Hanbok as a uniform. The research subjects included 446 high school students of Chungcheong and Gyeonggi areas. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Male students evaluated Saenghwal Hanbok affirmatively in terms of its activity convenience. Female students, on the other hand, thought highly of it in such aspects as modern beauty, aesthetic color, distinction, symmetry, wearability, tidiness, color harmony, color unity, decoration details, and suitability for special occasions as well as modem daily life. 2. The satisfaction with Saenghwal Hanbok as a school uniform stayed, on an average, below a mid-level. It appeared that high schools with long history showed more interest than comparatively newly-established schools. Also, students with obesity liked Saenghwal Hanbok more than normal students. 3. The students' demand for price cut was highest among other demands of Saenghwal Hanbok school uniform. In addition, almost all items including wearability, material, color, activity convenience, and patterns appeared to need more improving.

A Study on the Relative Importance of Structural Elements of the Fashion Convention by Delphi Analysis

  • The Purpose of this study first was to establish the concept based on the existing convention theory, and classifies the types of industrial aspect, and cultural and artistic aspects. Based on it, the relative importance of structural elements of the fashion convention industry is analyzed to fashion conventions in the industrial aspect. The research applies Delphi technique, it is applied to experts in the fashion convention industry in two rounds. Re result is as follows ; First, exhibitions and collection of the fashion convention industry are classified into five groups by examining their main types and main targets. Second, in fabric·material exhibitions, the procedure, personnel and communication have relatively equal importance on the whole although facilities are considered most important. in clothing·fashion exhibitions, the procedure has by far a high level of importance unlike others. Third, comparing the second stage importance, it is shown that the event hall, pubic relations, professionalization of personnel, communication between the promoter and supporting organization are most important with a slight difference by type. Fourth, comparing the third stage importance, it is revealed that ten most important factors are the event location, publicity time, the size·number of event halls customer handling , expertise, publicity media, friendliness, facilities, Publicity Publications, and business competence.

  • This study suggests a model to identify relationships between Supply Chain Partnership(SCP) and the performance of Supply Chain Management(SCM) based on apparel companies and outsourcing suppliers of finished products that are in a position of getting into Supply Chain Level on apparel industry. This research model is based on an integrated model including a relationship between relationship formation factors and partnership strengthening factors in SCP; and supply chain performance a result of that relationship. The formation factors of SCP affect emotional elements(trust, commitment) of strengthening factors, and they, in turn, impact the performance of a supply chain through behavioral elements(collaboration, information sharing)16 hypotheses were formulated to research the degree of impact of SCP on supply chain performance. Theoretical and empirical research was executed in parallel to achieve the objectives of this study. Empirical research involved a research methodology using surveys. Survey target audiences were limited to designers and merchandisers over five years of experience with apparel companies and outsourcing suppliers for finished products operating mainly in Korea. SPSS 12.0 for Windows and AMOS 5.0 were used for data and statistical analysis. Reviewing the result of research model and identification of each hypothesis, total 11 from 16 hypotheses set by this research were selected, 5 hypotheses were dropped, and 4 meaningful paths were added.
