The clipping value, defined as the log-likelihood ratio (LLR) in the case wherein all the list of candidates have the same binary value, is investigated, and an effective method to estimate it is presented for iterative tree search detection. The basic principle behind the method is that the clipping value of a channel bit is equal to the LLR of the maximum probability of correct decision of the bit to the corresponding probability of erroneous decision. In conjunction with multilevel bit mappings, the clipping value can be calculated with the parameters of the number of transmit antennas, $N_t$; number of bits per constellation point, $M_c$; and variance of the channel noise, $\sigma^2$, per real dimension in the Rayleigh fading channel. Analyses and simulations show that the bit error performance of the proposed method is better than that of the conventional fixed-value method.

This study was carried out to establish clipping interval of Pennisetum orientale (PO) and Panicum antidotale (PA) to get maximum biomass production with optimal nutritional value for Nili buffaloes. Two clipping intervals i.e. $CI_1$, and $CI_2$ (clipped after every one and two months, respectively) were studied for both grasses. The data on various parameters were compared with PO and PA each clipped at 4 months of age (control). Leaf to stem ratio in both PO and PA declined with increasing clipping interval. Concentration of dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) increased (p<0.05) whereas crude protein contents decreased with increasing clipping interval in both grasses. Crude protein and dry herbage yields in PO and PA increased (p<0.05) with increasing clipping interval. The DM and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) digestibilities of PO and PA in ruminally cannulated buffalo bulls decreased (p<0.05) due to more lignification with increasing clipping interval. Ruminal extent of digestion, rate of disappearance of DM and neutral detergent fiber of PO and PA decreased in buffaloes while ruminal lag time of these nutrients increased significantly (p<0.05) with increasing clipping interval. The results from the study imply that two month clipping interval for both PO and PA grasses favored higher biomass with greater nutritional value for Nili buffaloes and sustained grass vigor.

Clipping is a simple and convenient PAPR reduction method to prevent the high-speed OFDM communication system from the nonlinear distortion. However, it inherently produces clip noise so that BER performance can be degraded. Clipping noise can be divided into in-band and out-of-band clipping noise. In this paper, we study the clipping effect on the forward link of the OFDM-FDMA system. BER performance of OFDM-FDMA system using clipping method is theoretically analyzed. We also investigate the BER performance of the clipped OFDM-FDMA signal through the HPA. From the simulation results it can be quantified how much the BER performance of OFDM-FDMA system is degraded by the clipping method. From the study results, we can choose the appropriate IBO value and CR(clip ratio) to get the desired BER performance.

This paper proposes a multi-bit $\Sigma\Delta$ modulator arcitecture which eliminates signal clipping problem. To avoid signal clipping, the output values of intgrators are monitored and modified by a reference value. This oepration is recorded as a digital code to restore actual signal value. Due to the digital code, the substraction of feedback value from the multi-bit quantizer can be calculated by a digital adder and this simplifies dAC operation making the accurate DAC of conventional multi-bit $\Sigma\Delta$ modulator scheme unnecessary. These features make N-th modulator can be implemented by sharing an integrator among N stages to decrease the required chip area. As an experimental example, a 4th order .sum..DELTA. modulator with oversampling ratio of 64 was simulated to show over 130 DB SNR at rail-to-rail input sinusoidal signal.
The current study developed the analysis program by employing the Polygon Clipping Algorithm to calculate the open area on the court when players try to spike a ball. The program consists of two kinds of output screen. First, on the main output screen, it is possible to calculate both blocked area by net and blockers, and opened area to avoid the blocked area when players spike the ball. Additionally, the secondary output screen shows the moving path of setter and the location of set. Main output screen indicates hitting points of spiking, blocking, and open area. Also, it is possible to analyze the movement of setter, location of set, and hitting point of attacker. The program was tested by comparing real coordinate value and location coordinate value which is operated on the program. To apply this program in the field, future study needs to develop the program that can calculate three dimensions coordinate fast by tracking the location of players or ball in real time.

Multi-Code CDMA (MC-CDMA) can not only be integrated easily with a conventional system, but also achieve good spectral efficiency and high processing gain. However, it suffers from high value of peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). In this paper, we propose the Multi-Phase CDMA (MP-CDMA) system that can provide variable rate service and is not susceptible to the non-linear characteristics of amplifier. The clipping is introduced between at the output of multi-code modulator and at the input of MPSK modulator in order to improve the performance of MPSK chip demodulator and reduce the system complexity, The system performances are compared for the different Number of codes and different clipping levels, respectively. The optimum clipping level is also evaluated for the different number of codes in both, AWGN and frequency flat fading channel.

This study examined the influence of re-growth periods on chemical composition, biomass production, nutritive value and digestion kinetics of Setaria sphacelata (SS) and Cenchrus ciliaris (CC) in ruminally cannulated buffalo bulls. Two re-growth intervals i.e. clipping every month ($CI_1$) and clipping after every two months ($CI_2$) were compared with the control (clipped after 4 months). Mean values of leaf to stem ratio in SS and CC grasses were decreased (p<0.05) with increasing re-growth interval. The lowest leaf to stem ratio was recorded in control plots of both grasses. In both grasses, increasing growth period increased the concentrations of dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and organic matter (OM) and decreased crude protein (CP). Mean dry herbage, OM and CP yields of SS and CC were increased (p<0.05) with increasing re-growth interval. Ruminal DM and NDF digestibilities of SS and CC were decreased (p<0.05) with increasing interval. Ruminal rate of DM and NDF disappearance was higher while the ruminal lag time of these nutrients was lower with monthly than with bi-monthly clipping interval. The results from present study imply that SS and CC clipped after every two months is more beneficial than when clipped every month or every four months in terms of optimal biomass with adequate nutritional value for buffaloes.
In this paper, the bit error rate (BER) performance of the fast frequency hopping/M-ary frequency shift keying system using the clipper receiver is analyzed by using the characteristic function (CF) technique in the presence of n=1 band multitone jamming and additive white Gaussian noise environment. The CFs of the clipper receiver outputs are derived as a infinite series representation using Gamma function and Marcum's Q -function. The analytical results are validated with various simulation results. Performance comparisons with linear combining receiver are shown that the BER performance of the clipper receiver is much better than that of the linear combining receiver In addition, as the clipping level approaches to infinity, it is shown that the clipper receiver simply performs a linear combining without clipping and there exists an optimum value of diversity level (the number of hops per symbol) that maximizes the worst case BER performance of the clipper receiver.

Exploding gradient is a widely known problem in training recurrent neural networks. The explosion problem has often been coped with cutting off the gradient norm by some fixed value. However, this strategy, commonly referred to norm clipping, is an ad hoc approach to attenuate the explosion. In this research, we opt to view the problem from a different perspective, the discrete-time optimal control with infinite horizon for a better understanding of the problem. Through this perspective, we fathom the region at which gradient explosion occurs. Based on the analysis, we introduce a gradient-explosion-free algorithm that keeps the training process away from the region. Numerical tests show that this algorithm is at least three times faster than the clipping strategy.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the usefulness of SSEP monitoring during intracranial aneurysm surgery and compare the characteristics of wave change in relation to neurologic changes between ACA aneurysms and MCA aneurysms. Methods : During recent three years(between January 1997 and November 1999), intraoperative SSEP monitoring had been done in 63 operations for intracranial aneurysms. We had monitored the median nerve SSEP during surgery for aneurysms of MCA and the posterior tibial nerve SSEP for aneurysms of ACoA or ACA. A more than 50% reduction of any cortical SEP response was considered to be a significant SEP change, compared to its baseline value before the start of surgery. Changes in the SEPs were categorized as follows : Type IA, no significant amplitude changes without temporary clipping ; Type IB, no significant amplitude changes with temporary clipping ; Type II, significant changes with temporary clipping and complete return to control amplitude ; Type III, significant changes with temporary clipping and incomplete return to control amplitude ; Type IV, significant changes with temporary clipping and more decreased amplitude changes. Results : Among the 63 intraoperative monitoring, there were 37 cases of ACA aneurysms(An), and 26 of MCA An. The temporary proximal arterial occlusion during surgery were performed in 31(83.8%)cases of ACA An, 22(84.6%) of MCA An. Seven of the 31 ACA An(22.6%) and ten of the 22 MCA An(45.5%) had significant changes. The type were as follows : 4 patients with type II and 3 with type III in the ACA An ; 3 patients with type II and 3 with type III and 4 with type IV in the MCA An. In both group type II changes had no new postoperative neurological deficit. All 6 patients with type III had new neurological deficits ; However, One case in the ACA An and two cases in the MCA An. had transient neurologic deficit and improved markedly over the next two months. All 4 type IV changes in the MCA An. had permanant neurologic deficits. Two out of 30 cases(6.7%) in the ACA An. and one out of 16 cases(6.3%) in the MCA An. without significant amplitude change had new neurologic deficit postoperatively. Conclusion : Based on this study, Intraoperative SSEP monitoring during aneurysm surgery would provide useful information for detecting cerebral ischemia. SSEP response during surgery for MCA An. is more sensitive than ACA An. Otherwise, there were no meaningful difference in rate of false negativity.
